Republicans are expecting President Donald Trump to lose his re-election and shifting their focus to holding GOP control of the U.S. Senate, according to a new report by Axios.

The report, by Mike Allen and Hans Nichols is titled, “GOP social-distances Trump.”

“After years of holding their tongues, a few Republicans have started to separate themselves from President Trump and his possible political collapse, focusing on his carelessness with the virus,” Axios reported.

“There will be a lot of finger points & backstabbing in next several weeks,” the strategist predicted.

“The bottom line, from Hans Nichols: Most Republican consultants fear that the White House is gone — they’re pinning their hopes on the Senate. The last week has only made that clearer,” Axios concluded.

Top GOP donor floats ‘sacrificing’ Trump to ‘protect the Senate at all costs’

President Donald Trump keeps getting brutal polling numbers, and the latest polling averages at both FiveThirtyEight and Real Clear Politics show the president losing to Democratic rival Joe Biden by roughly 10 points.

While many Trump-backing Republicans haven’t totally given up hope, they’re starting to contemplate alternate electoral strategies that don’t involve holding onto the White House and instead keeping the Senate as a way to obstruct anything Biden proposes should he win the White House.

Former George W. Bush Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, who is a reliable defender of the president, tells the AP that he fears Trump is leading his party to a total wipeout where no clever strategy for maintaining the Senate will suffice.

California’s top election official is investigating reports that the state’s Republican Party has set up unauthorized ballot drop boxes posing as “official” in several major counties, an illegal practice that could deceive voters into depositing their ballots at unsecure locations.

“Operating unofficial ballot drop boxes—especially those misrepresented as official drop boxes—is not just misleading to voters, it’s a violation of state law,” California Secretary of State Alex Padilla said in a statement responding to reports of unauthorized ballot drop boxes in Fresno, Los Angeles, and Orange counties.

“The church posted on social media that the box was ‘approved and brought by the GOP,'” the Register reported. “The post said church officials don’t have a key to the box and that GOP officials pick up the ballots… On its website, the Fresno County Republican Party also shared a list of ‘secure’ ballot collection locations. None are official county drop box sites, with the local GOP instead listing its own headquarters, multiple gun shops, and other local businesses.”

According to a report from Politico, Republican lawmakers on the November ballot are in a panic over the fact that their Democratic opponents are awash in cash three weeks before the election while they are still begging for support from their backers.

With Politico’s James Arkin and Elena Schneider dubbing what the GOP is facing a “green tsunami,” the report states that the Republican leadership met in April to discuss fundraising for the November election and were given a warning then that the party had fallen behind in digital fundraising.

Even more frustrating is the fact that longtime big-money GOP donors have been more tightfisted as of late.

“I think the donor community, at times, doesn’t appreciate that volatility extends across the country and not just in four or five Senate seats,” explained one GOP consultant.

Here’s the real reason Trump is running scared from another debate

In his first debate performance, Donald Trump revealed himself to be a modern-day Wizard of Oz. His whole presidency, his entire public persona, is a fraud, built on his furiously working the machinery of media to create the illusion of prowess, of success. But the debate pulled back the curtain and, just as the travelers in the movie, we cannot unsee what we have seen. We’re not that stupid.

In the debate, Trump revealed himself to be the bully, the fraud, and the repellent human being he actually is. A second-term election is rightly a referendum on the incumbent but Trump couldn’t debate his accomplishments for they are so devastatingly, unambiguously negative.

The worst pandemic in a century (200,000+ dead with almost 8 million infected) when other countries made it a routine matter of public health management. The worst economic collapse since the Great Depression, with the greatest collapse in GDP (32% annualized in Q2), the highest number of people unemployed (56 million), the greatest runup in public debt ($6.3 trillion), an explosion in the trade deficit.

NBC to air Trump town hall head-to-head against Biden on ABC

President Donald Trump will hold a solo town hall Thursday instead of a debate with Joe Biden.

NBC News will broadcast the 8 p.m. event, which will be moderated by “TODAY” anchor Savannah Guthrie, at the same time Biden will host his own town hall on ABC News, in Philadelphia.

The president and his Democratic challenger had been scheduled to hold their second debate Wednesday, but that schedule was shaken up by Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis.
