I just saw 6 new stories be approved on the chyoo board.

You have to feel bad for the first person approved. Their story was only on the front page for a few minutes.

Approval is key yeah, but appearing on the front page is nice perk since it increases your chances of getting new readers/co-writers.

I was justing point that I had never seen 6 new stories get approved all at once. Any more then 5 at once means that 1 or more story won't get any of the initial publicity associated with being on the front page.

This has happened many times before. I've approved ten or more at once. I hadn't thought about front page appearance, so I'll adjust my behavior to approve in chunks of five or less.

I always click on the more button at the bottom of the list as I want to look back over the past couple of dozen new stories. I suspect most people do as I may have been away for a week or two and want to see more than just the last five.

I guess I feel like if the story is good and well written it will attract a following.

I sometimes click the more link as well, especially when I haven't checked out the site for a while (which isn't very often... I usually check out once a day even if it's just in passing)

I wonder how many people actually use the more link in the new story collum. I know there is huge viewer drop off when you hit sixth in the freshly updated collum. I wonder if the same effect appears in the new story area.

See, I never really check the columns at the bottom. I usually either run through my bookmarks, look at sotires recommmended here, or occasionally I'll do a search if there's anything in particular I'm looking for. I have just started looking at those columns now though.

I'll be honest, the new page is were I become of stories the most often (I had a bad experience with the rating system, and no longer trust it ), but I don't check out the more list under newbies. I do use it sometimes with recent updates.
