That smell....

This is kind of an embarrassing topic, so I'd love your input....

Normally, I'm just a tad damp (aka vaginal discharge) with that subtle, slightly musky odor. My boyfriend has a very sensitive nose and can tell right away when he arouses me. :)

But the day after I've had sex, it smells terrible! Not the classic "tuna fish" smell, but it's pretty strong. I've checked with my doctor- no infections and I'm healthy. What can I do to mask the odor? One friend suggested douching...would that do the trick?

You may be having a mild allergic reaction to his sperm, if he takes large quantities of Vit C or is on any medications it is possible that you are having a mild discharge. Ask your doctor-never be embarrassed to ask smart questions about your body. I do not recommend douching-nor does my midwife-it can upset your alkaline/acid balance.

Since the taste of semen can change with what a guy eats, (and I assume a woman's own lubrication/cum too) I've kinda wondered if maybe that isn't the culprit. I've had times too where it was stinky afterward and it seems to happen as soon as the two cums meet. I have no clue as to how to cover up the smell. I don't suggest douches though--as long as your hygeine is fine (which from what you said, it seems to be), don't do since it can mess with your system. Douching not only washes away the bad stuff but the good stuff too (the good bacteria that keeps the yeast in check so that we don't get yeast infections).

Thanks for the replies- sex with my boyfriend is pretty mind-blowing, and I'd hate to give that up because of the funky odor. I was doing a little experimenting this week, and I tried those feminine hygiene wipes- they help a lot "the day after..."

Do you and your boyfriend use condoms? I've noticed a distinct unpleasant odor after I have sex with my husband, and we use condoms. (Since he won't get the snip, and I'm sick of the pill.) It doesn't last for very long though. Usually a shower or bath does the trick.

"The odor"

The problem may be simply that the residue is 'spoiling'.

A solution that my wife has used to aliviate the problen is to 'dry it up' by use of a tampon inserted for not over fifteen seconds.

What about you getting tied?......

Skip the douching. It's not healthy and you should never douche more than once a month. Ask your doctor. Watch the use of feminine wipes immediately after sex because the ingredients in them can irritate the aroused tissues.

It's usually recommended that you wash the sperm away after you've had sex because the ejaculate can, doesn't always, but can contribute to yeast infections.
