I would like to ask the person who gave my one and only story with a little red "H' next to it, a nasty little one vote, to send it plummeting; did you really dislike it so much?

If you got just one tenth of the thrill out of doing that, that I got out of getting it the first place, well then, perhaps it was worth it for you.

It does hurt Alex(fem). Like you, I had been watching, and proudly I will admit, as my first story slowly climbed the top list only to be zapped to oblivion by two votes. I suppose I should be happy with the wonderful feedback that story has gotten and how much I like it myself, but as an amateur writer, that ranking is my best-seller list and darn it, it felt good to be on it. Maybe it is coincidence. Maybe my story did not deserve to be on that list in the first place. But I have read to many postings similar to this on these message boards of good stories being assassinated when they started to threaten the big boys at the top of the list.

Sorry about your story!!!:(

Do yourself a favor and don't even look at the ratings. Otherwise, you will end up getting a case of hurt feelings.

Here's what I do. Every once and awhile, I'll scan the top lists and see if my stories are on page one. If they are it's always a welcome surprise.

The other thing. You know. The one where you look at your votes every day and see how many people have voted and what score they gave you is a sure prescription for Prosac.

It would be like competing in a beauty pageant every day.

Yeah, but don't you just want to take a little peek?

I confess, I watch mine like a hawk for the first few days ( so I saw the 1 votes hit 'Tell me I can hope') but then I let them go off into the world by themselves...

Well I don't actually get votes on my stories everyday. In fact sometimes I don't get any for weeks. So, no, I'm not obsessed.

When there was only one more vote, than the last time I checked, it didn't take much to figure it out.

Have a good day now,

Alex (female variety)

A little tip

I learned from experience that the title or description of a story can be very important.

I titled one of my little stories, "A Painful Experience." It has been read many, many more times than anything else I have written. It's also, I think, the least erotic thing I ever posted.

After several weeks I realized that the title probably suggested it has some sort of BDSM theme, and that's what seemed to make it so popular.

There wasn't the faintest hint of BDSM, though, and I'm sure the readers were disappointed. Voting results reflected their disappointment.

Kil Muf - If I could write like you can, Sweetie, I'd quit my day job.

Alex, I wasn't saying that you did that. I did that.

I also count seconds when I do certain familiar tasks and I won't even go into the rituals.
