That Feeling of Submitting A New Story

I get such a rush when I hit the "submit" button on a new Lit story. I am hoping that other people will find the things that excite me, exciting themselves.

Lately, I've been taking inspiration from real-life women I know. I "cast" them in my erotic stories giving them the wants and desires I imagine they would have in my wildest dreams. When I see them again in real life I get a secret thrill knowing what "they have done" in my stories.

I can't wait for the story to "go live".

Then it comes back as "Rejected" because you misplaced a period or didn't explain that the character was 18+.

Indeed.

My latest story had 4 votes and a score of 5 an hour after it posted. 30 min later those two number were reversed. :S

Every time it gets close to 4.5 someone hits it again.

I've reached the jaded stage, most of it is 'whatever' now. I've slowed way down here, but still put something up every few months for my longtime followers, but scores, comments, favs,...as the song says, the thrill is gone.

Congratulations on taking the plunge. Stay with it and enjoy it.

The other posters do have a point. With the good comes the bad as well. But this is true of all things, and most especially true anytime you submit any form of art for viewing in the public eye. Don't sweat it. Have fun. Don't fret too much about scores or scathing comments. Write what you like or love, and aye, what inspires you.

...? What are you still doing here? Go write another one.

Well, this is a cheerful lot.

Certain people's woes notwithstanding, it is indeed a nice feeling when you finally finish something you've worked hard on and get readers' eyes on it.

Absolutely agree.

I have two series to finish, and two other stories I'm going to write, and then I'm going to just let it all rest for a while. Too many other things in my life, and the reaction I often get is so negative, well, why come back for more abuse?

The comments here were downers, weren't they?

I used to feel optimistic each time I posted a new story. It was going to be perfect; it was going to be great. Now I'm a little more pensive about the outcome when ever I have a big buy-in on the story. I usually can't predict whether the reaction will meet my expectation. Still, the anticipation kicks in whenever a new story goes up.

That might eventually grow into a "fuck you" attitude toward the readers, but I hope it doesn't. I want to learn from their response, not just write it off. Now if I could get a response...

OK, I'll say it. Yes, it's nice to see a story be well received by readers, with good views and a solid score that hopefully resists the shark attacks. It's a nice, warm and fuzzy feeling, no matter how many times you say, meh, it don't matter. If I "know" it's a good story, it matters.

But then I haven't got the longevity or volume of Brother Pilot or Brother Lovecraft, so I can still be bright eyed and bushy tailed when I want to be!

I say learn writing well enough you know the merits of your stuff without needing opinions from anyone. When people steal your stuff youll know its really good.

Every single response here has merit. My own attitude has run the gamut of all of these. I certainly understand LC's and Jezz's responses. I dont have the years of it they endured...I'm not that patient and I bore easily, but I'm there now with them. So, I write only when the mood hits and only as long as it lasts. The moment I quit giving a shit, that's when the readers suddenly wanted me to write. 'Cest la vie.

NW...you little darlin' you, you can tell such sweet lies. ;) It's why your female fans keep coming back for more. :rose:

As for you, EB... I admit your bright eyes are gorgeous, but...Your tail gets bushy over a salami sandwich without mustard. :D

Still, my biggest kick now is in watching the enthusiasm of new-comers. They write with such frenzied excitement. I like being a cheerleader and I like watching each writer grow over time. Even if they never make the big-time, they at least had the guts to give it a try here and most of the shark attacks are undeserved for that reason alone.

Now, James...of course you are dead on the money, as always. But, you can bitch all you want to...your esteemed colleagues should know...if it hadn't been for you, more than one new writer would have jumped ship on day one. So howl and snarl if you like, but I for one, haven't forgotten that.:rose:

I get lotsa views but none to few comments.

Way back when,, in 1970 , I mailed 3 chapters of my novel about a Spanish prostitute to Charles Scribers Sons of New York. They published Hemingway and plenty of Nobel/Pulitzer laureates. I asked, WATCHA THINK? and got back a nice letter from an editor. SEND IT WHEN YOURE DONE. But it never got done, because 3 of my immediate family died in that time. Still, I had some encouraging comments from a stellar source, to fortify me. LIT readers are the peanut gallery. The typical LIT reader cant distinguish store brand boiled ham from Spanish hams that sell for $100 a pound.

You spend too much time with PILETTE and TACOBELLE and talk their shit. You run with assheads.

You can search LIT in vain for a score lower than 5 stars I created. Ditto story comments. If it isn't 5 stars I ignore it. Likewise I don't flatter assclowns. And LIT is lousy with assclowns. Youre on my assclown list but I always speak well of your wares, because theyre better than you are.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...you old goat you. The fact remains...

Wrong on two counts, m'lady. Don't like salami, don't mind mustard (French, not English... hmmm, where have I heard that before?)

Really? Took me all of one minute to dig this one up. :)

I gave it 2 stars

One of the worst ways to launch a story is how you launched this one. My name for it is THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS. 12 lords a leaping, 11 maids a milking, 5 gold rings! 4 turtle doves, 3 French hens, and a partridge in a pear tree. Lists ruin prose.

Start a tale with action or your thesis.

So, which is it? Did you love my story and give it a 5 and lie about your rating in the comment title, or did you both comment and vote on a story you found less than perfect? :D

I get almost as giddy with the troll comments as I do over submitting the story. They are so funny. I read them and laugh my butt off. And there is a certain satisfaction when a story starts out with a score of 1.1 and ends up with a 3.56 once the trolls wander off. I don't really care about the score as much as the favorites, followers, and email I get.

But then I always have got more positive feedback through email than I ever get comments in the story comment section, good or bad, which I think is funny too. I think a lot of those who really enjoy my story are embarrassed to admit it on the comments. And I can understand that. :D

I always get a rush posting ANYTHING, whether here or in other sites (I post my art stuff on Deviant Art and have even done a few Youtube videos). I'll be honest, I check back on this site a few times a day, but I've learned the value of patience over the years so when I don't get immediate or very little response, I just take a deep breath and not worry about it.

At the end of the day, I know as long as I love what I am doing, I know there are bound to be others who will like it too. Plus it helps that I am use to critique and other things.

We're All Driven by Passion Here

A passion for writing and what we're writing about. When that goes, so goes the writing. After 40 stories for Lit, my passion for this stuff remains healthy and true. So I'll keep on posting until I run out of creative gas.

There's fun and gratification in entertaining people, including oneself. My feeling is that most writers here do it first and foremost for themselves. We care about our characters, live vicariously through them, and we hope readers will care about them also.
