It would be if you were just spamming the forum with it, but if it fits the topic of conversation, you should totally link a story. If you're talking about a story written by someone else, you can link that too. Saves others the hassle of trying to search for it when the link's right there just begging to be used like a good little Uniform Resource Locator.

Self promote, it'll be rare for someone else to do it for you until you gather up a few fans (mine know who they are, I dress them in silk and lace and place chocolates on their pillows).

It takes a while, so keep writing.
