My story has been put up at last. Perhaps I'm not the writer I thought I was, it is scoring pretty low. I wanted thank everyone for their help and suggestions, though I do not think I will be attempting this again, I do appreciate your advice.

Thanks,

Agnes

Welcome to obsessing about scores.

It would help your readers, if you had a link in your Forum signature linking to your stories (I'm assuming you'll be writing more).

Go to Quick Links, Edit Signatures
and add this as a link (use the button at the top with a planet & a chain link)

http://english.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php
?uid=477826&page=submissions

except put it all on one line.

Much of the process of scoring is determined by developing a readership. You rfirst offering will be viewed by a wide range and will, as is usually the case not appeal to all. Your second ofering is more likely to produce a better score as those who liked the first will come back and you may pick up new readers as well.

Writing is a process. You will sharpen and refine your technique as you go as well as developing your own style. It never ends really, but through time you will fiond you have reached a place wehre works are fairly obviously yours and where your readership comes to read them faithfully.

Don't let the negative reactions of your first work deter you from writing. Between trolls and being new, only the very exceptional will experience instant success.

Don't sweat your first attempt, Agnes. You're undoubtedly feeling your way, trying to discover your voice.

Colleen has the right of it. You need to keep working, putting stuff out and developing a fan base. If you keep at it, success is bound to come.

These folks have already given the advice I would give, so I'll just bump this thread in support.

Yay! congrats on getting your first story out there, thats great! Don't sweat the scores too much, it's the comments, the positive and the constructive critiscism that you should heed :) Just have fun and enjoy being a writer!:rose:

Don't give up on your first try. Keep writing and you'll improve over time. Always ask for help. Accept constructive criticism, and don't be too sensitive over your work. So you decided your first was a flop. It can take a while. I'm writing my first story for this site as we speak. All I've got right now are poems. Keep writing. Take some risks. Write a piece with another member off the site. Try different categories. Just don't give up. You learn as you go. Take heart and continue writing.

Like the others have said, as you publish more, you will develop a group of readers who recognize your name and remember enjoying a previous story.

Also, each new story will attract new readers to it, some of whom will search out your previous stories.

For example, my first story’s read/view count more than doubled each time I entered a contest – first the Halloween and then the Winter Holiday Contests.

That is my best recommendation to improve visibility: Enter Contests.

Right now, start planning your Halloween Contest Entry.

Thank you all for the encouraging reviews and advice. I will have to allow it to run its course an make a decision from that.

Thank You All,

Agnes
