Funny....it's dark out and I'm burning 23,000 watts of solar juice right now. No problems even on the cloudy lost coast (solar still works even in the gloomiest of PNW overcast weather btw) and it doesn't go down when a tree drops a line. Also it's 3APR and even above the 42nd we are at a 13 hr photoperiod and will be over 12 hrs until October....so no it's not available less than half the time....unless you live in Alaska you get enough sun to run solar.

I do have an LP generator for a back up back up though. So *shrug*

The real problem with solar is the toxic wast making the things creates, the battery bank maintenance is rather impractical for the average suburbanite/urban dweller and it's all up front cost so it's expensive as fuck.
