How many campers are out there? Texas tent campers? State Park Gold Pass Campers?
The most popular state park is Garner State Park between Concan and Leakey about 90 miles northwest of San Antonio.
Another beauty is Brownwood State Park located just outside Brownwood about 100 miles north of Austin.
Both have tentsites, shelters, and cabins. Reservations are a must.

re: Texas Camping

It has been a long time since the main message was posted, but since I'm in Texas and do go camping on occasion, I thought I'd reply. Well, ok....so we haven't been camping in some years. But we do go to the parks!

Garner SP is a really nice park. Lake Brownwood SP is nice, too, but doesn't come close to Garner.

Inks Lake SP is nice, especially for the water in the lake....it sparkles in the sunlight because of the "granite sand" on the bottom!

Oh brother, am I dumb! I looked at his registration date and thought it was the date the message was posted!

Yes, I am blonde! LOL!

I camp a lot in TX

but it's been a while since we did the Gold Pass. As the kids get older and we get more involved in Scouts that's where we do all our camping.

I spent last weekend at a place called Spencer's on the San Marcus River - just outside of San Marcus. It's not the nicest camp ground but it's where our Girl Scouts go canoeing.

Our son will be camping with Cub Scouts next weekend at Brazos Bend State Park - close to home (we are in Houston).

I've been to Garner - and have friends that go there every year. We've also gone to the one on the Pedernales River, but I can't think of the name of it. It's near Johnson City. It was real nice too.

Oh - welcome to Lit to both of you!

If you look around on the Playground and General Boards you'll see there are lots of us Texans out there! Always glad to welcome some more to Lit!

camping!

I love to vamp in Texas too.... Inks Lake is great, so is Enchanted Rock.. it has a cave system at the top of the granite dome that's really fun to explore..... I'm in Houston and go to Brazos Bend State Park sometimes for the day. The best place in Texas I believe is Big Bend National Park... it's so amazing.... I've been there 3 times and for a total of about a week and half (between all the trips) and still didnt see all of the park. It's so huge and diverse. What Ive been desiring lately is to go on a canoe trip down a river.... probably a river around central Texas for like a day or two.. I think that'd be nice, dont you think?

correction

camp, not vamp.... although vamping could be interesting too

Camping and Vamping in Texas

That's a hoot, Danus! You should have left it uncorrected. Until I saw your correction, I thought you had intended to say "vamp"! And it really seemed to fit so well with the topic....sex in state parks!

Secret Kate, thanks for the welcome. I haven't gottten to your stories yet, but I will. Hope to have some of my own posted one of these days.

Danus, you are right about Enchanted Rock. I am a "rock hound", so naturally I absolutely LOVE the biggest rock in the state!

I have never been to Big Bend, but my hubby has.

Speaking of canoeing, hubby has a kayak that he takes out sometimes, usually around the New Braunfels/San Marcos areas. He hopes to get it into the Guadalupe around Gruene....when the river settles down after our rains. He isn't "into" white-water"...yet!

Another SP that I really like is Dinosaur Valley, up at Glen Rose (southwest of Ft. Worth). We used to go there quite a bit when we lived in Ft. Worth. Our twins were little then, 4 and under. I still almost cry when I remember a day we spent there. (the girls are 16 now, so this was many, many moons ago) We had gone to get pictures of the girls in the bluebonnets that are usually so gorgeous there in the spring. Well, turns out that we picked a bad year for bluebonnets in that area. So we just spent the day playing in the water with the girls. At the time, hubby had an inflatable Sevylor kayak, and we took a roll of pics of the girls playing in the Paluxy, trying to paddle Daddy's kayak, etc. Such wonderful shots we got!

Well, we decided to go on to another place to see if the bluebonnets were in bloom there. They were...gorgeous! We got beautiful pics of the girls amongst the bluebonnets. BUT.....what makes me want to cry is.....one of the girls, while we were at that other park, got ahold of the roll of film I had taken out of the camera....yes, the pictures from Dinosaur Valley. Before I could stop her, she had pulled all the film out of the canister! I was HEARTBROKEN!!! Still am. Oh, well. Que cera, cera.

Oops...I've about written a book here. Guess I'd best save the memories for another time and another subject thread! LOL!

Hello All

Hi BlueDaisy! This is a Bump, everything Texas needs to be at the top of the list! Have been to Dinosaur valley in Glen Rose, very nice. My favorite was Davis Mountains State park.

Close by Garner!

In Utopia, 20 miles from GSP it is utopia. The river is clear and cold. They have small cabins, tent and trailer sites(all shade). We loved it and it was close to GSP to enjoy days there, also.

Good Fellowship camp or something like that. They had a website.
Search: Utopia, camping

You won't regret it.

Saxetman....you are going to get yourself in big trouble if you don't stop the bumping of posts! Or at least saying that! I already saw a post where you'd gotten chastised about it! LOL!

I've never been to west Texas, so I've never been to the Davis Mtn. SP, obviously! Would love to go sometime.

Backboard: Thanks for the info on the campground at Utopia. We've been thru Utopia and the area is lovely. Will have to check out that place you mentioned.

Remembered the campground was Good Shepard, formerly a christian campground. Family owned.

There you go.

Have fun!

We used to go camping all the time when I was a kid, have not been in years. Some of them I remember was Tyler State Park, it was one of our favorites, Fort Davis, I went to Lake Texoma alot with Girl Scouts, and we also checked out alot of others that I don't remember exactly where we went. But we did go to Glen Rose to see that Dinosaur tracks. My mother's family is from that area. I went there about 6 years ago and took my son and nephews and niece. It is still nice, but not as much so as when I was a kid. Actually the kids enjoyed swimming in the river better than looking at the dino tracks!! lol.

OK fellow Texans....

....this has nothing to do with "Texas", other than the fact that I am a Texan! LOL! BUT.....

Lit. posted my first story!!! Please read it at your leisure and let me know what you think...be brutal, I can take it!

Hmm....guess I'll have to write one now that features Texas to make up for this off-topic post! LOL!
