I often sleep with the TV on as a means of noise in the background, for some reason I was woken up straight out of a dead sleep...and there on the TV was a breaking report about the foiled terrorist plot. I am sure you all will learn the details of it soon enough so I won't go into the details of it that much.

The purpose for posting this is I simply want to say how grateful I am for you all in the UK that this plan was thwarted and many people, families from your countries were spared this fate.

As I sat there listening to the report, so many strong emotions hit me, I don't know if it was because I just woke up like I did....but I had flash backs to that day...9/11. It was a moment were we as a nation looked in disbelief at the things that unfolded on that day. So many people died.

I am glad you are all safe and that the plan was not able to be carried out.

Yes, have been watching the reports since early this morning and they have a special news conference on at the moment. Seems they have changed their advice from this morning when they were advising people to still plan to fly but allow extra time as they need to repack the very few items (prescribed medicines, passport, glasses not in cases, wallets etc.) allowed in the cabin into clear plastic bags, as well as submit to hands on searchs, to now telling them to try and make alternative plans if possible. Now any places like Brussells and a few others are cancelling all flights into the UK, some cancelling those out of the UK. Hope those we know who were travelling today are OK. They are not confident they have caught all involved, hence the clear plastic bags ideas...and those arrested are all British born....makes you wonder don't it?

Sheesh, a stupid reporter is questioning why they have put the UK on critical alert becasue she argues there was no indication of when it was planned, and could be anytime so is silly to issue an alert. Seems the plan was to blow up the planes (said to be 10 flights) over the Atlantic to minimise forensic evidence and maxmise casualties, and to do them at the same time or close to each other in time.

"Why can't we ALL JUST GET ALONG!!!!!"

How can animals from the same species turn out so friggen different? It's crazy! We're all humans yet we all work so differently?!

Sometimes I just want to turn the TV off and pretend none of it is happening.

Nods....in answer to both your posts Cat...I am so glad that they acted before rather than after. It seems people do not seem to understand. i can't believe a reoprter would ask such a question ...the press makes me mad at times...I can't even go there though right now...

I also heard that the other plan was to wait will the planes reached the US and blow them up over a US city.

I am just so thankful they discovered it and moved in time to prevent it.

I am glad I don’t have another commercial flight this week.

I have 16 emails so far this morning from people asking me where I am etc...

I was traveling on September 11th and it was a nightmare getting home. The next couple of weeks are going to be rough on people flying commercial.

Glad you were safe Saw_man. And continues to hope for the same as you travel.

It can be hard I know to face the realities of the times in which we live. Be strong, stay vigillant, and above all hang on to hope. :rose:

Tell me about it. I fly cross-country next Thursday, and fly home again 11 days later. My mom told me about this first thing this morning.

She said I should be glad I don't live in the UK anymore -- I guess they aren't allowing ANY carry ons of any sort? -- because here they're just limiting WHAT you can have in your carryon, but you can still have it.

'Cos frankly, I don't trust those fuckers to not destroy my laptop in the baggage hold. That baby's not leavin' me. :p

In the UK from what I hear you are not permitted laptops or mobile phones and even baby milk has to be taste tested in front of security by whoever is accompanying the baby...no water or other liquids allowed and I think that also applies in the US.

That is the human brain on Islam. Any questions?

*trys to imagine being in the airport without my cell phone for text messaging people and whimpers*

I can't use pay phones to call people as I'm deaf so I rely on text messaging big time. bah...

I'm flying on Sept 11th...I'm trying not to feel freaked out about that and just go on with life, but I'm admittedly worried.

I asked mom what they would do if someone was travelling with a baby. Not being allowed to carry some sort of food or diapers or wipes is really just plain not feasible, unless the airline plans to carry those things for them.

But yes, we're not allowed to carry any sort of liquids right now. That includes makeup, toiletries, anything.

Luckily for me, I decided on my first trip last month that I was NOT going to attempt every single trip they sent me on with just a carryon. Just wasn't worth the effort.

What DOES suck is that now I need to be at the airport at friggin' 5am on Thursday, because they've upped it to three damned hours!! I've -always- been a two hours early person, so when they suggested that after '01 I didn't really care. But three?! Jeepers.

*giggle* I told them I wasn't available to travel that particular day. I'm sure now the entire team thinks I'm just a chicken.

It's actually my dad's birthday. I kinda wanted to be home for it. :)

Like everyone else, I'm so very glad they caught this before it happened. And yes, I too was reminded of 9/11 when I heard the news this morning.

I'm off to LA for business next week and I hate checking my bags if I don't have to. But I'd rather have to check my bag than worry about something happening while I'm in the air. So far, they haven't banned electronics here, and I hope they don't. I NEED my cell phone.

My poor mom... she is travelling to CA, a trip that will likely be no more than 36 hours start to finish, and will now have to check her bag, because surprise! She can't carry her basic toiletries in her carryon now.

She's got it worse than me. I planned to check my bag anyway. But I sure as hell ain't checking my laptop.

Yeah, I'm just dreading the thought of Sky Harbor this weekend. It will be a nightmare, no matter how you plan ahead.

The UK is allowing baby diapers as long as they are a minimum number. No books though and anyone who has a problem with the no laptop, ipod, mobile phone ruling will not be given an exception except perhaps to be given a full body cavity search and interview and refused boarding...they are not giving out any special options to anyone. Train ticket sales picked up yesterday though.

If you need your laptop you could always FedEx it. Pack it yourself so you know it'll handle the trip, and slap some Fragile stickers on it...
Unlike the USPS FedEX etc. will pay attention to that because you can insure the contents. Oh, and insure it.

I flew to Denmark yesterday

I left home at 2.30am
Arrived at Stansted airport at 4am.

Joined a queue. 1.5 hrs later got to front of queue.

The only things we could take on the plane were passport, money and medication. Glasses could be worn but no glasses cases could be taken on board. No laptops, phones, nothing.Credit cards were checked.

My handbag is in the shape of a high heel shoe. This was deemed dangerous so I had to join another queue to have it check and labelled then it had to go in the hold.

We were told nothing. Drinks newspapers, magazines books were all thrown away.

Babies in pushcharirs had to have teddies, blankets, and everything else (except two nappies and wipes) put into the hold. The baby could have a bottle but airport officials needed to see them drink out of it so if you got to the front of a queue and baby was asleep the bottle had to go.

We had to queue to get into the departure area.
Before entering the dept area we had to take off our shoes and we were searched.
She even felt my cunt.

In total I queued for 4 hours (yes, folks four hours!!)

My plane was due for take off at 7.10am, we boarded at 9am but we were still 60 checked in passenegers missing. We were airborn at midday.

We were given one free soft drink whilst waiting to be airborn, but there was not enough food for everyone, so I choose not to pay the huge prices airlines charge for very little.

I had not eaten since the day before.
Arrived at Copenhagen and swallowed two hot dogs almost without blinking.

Called Andante, it was the first I had spoken to him.
Had not called him prior to giving up my mobile as we had no idea what was happening and therefore I had no reason to believe the planes would be delayed.

One guard told me Heathrow airport was closed, but that was several hours after i said goodbye to my mobile.

Luckily Andante had listened to the news and realised there was a problem and I had not changed my mind about visiting him.

Andante is busy in CPH over the next few days, so whilst he was busy I spent 5 hours painting outdoor stuff to keep busy!!

A hell of a day!

Thank God I was not travelling with small children!!

It's really funny...

We flew out of Las Vegas last week and they made a big deal of searching Jane's purse. The TSA guy put on gloves and used something to swipe the inside of her bag and made this big production all because they saw her lighter (which they stole from her) in the X-rays.

Her carry-on backpack was never an issue at McCarren.

Flying back to Las Vegas from Denver on Monday, they found a pocket knife in her backpack. She'd had it in there and had forgotten about it, since her 3 week trip to Utah (back in July) for an archeology class.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that by Thursday, it'll have slowed down a little bit. Plus my flight is stupid-early in the morning, I'm planning to get there around 6am, and that's a sort of odd day to be travelling, maybe that will help, too.

*sigh*

If I get back in time Wednesday night, I'll post and let you know what to expect at Sky Harbor. :)
