This week I had to make a business trip to NYC....just a normal thing...do it every 4-6 weeks.
This time was so, so, different! Part of me expected to see a dejected city, and a people ravaged by the nonsensical cruelty of a few imbeciles. I say only this "BRAVO NYC", you made me realise that even in such terrible days love and peace and kindness shine above all else - I have never experienced such a feeling of community - of brother helping brother.
Only one downside and it makes me write here -
When sat in a bar in Queens I was asked to donate to several "good causes" - Red Cross being only one, but I was aso asked if I donated to the "struggle in Ireland"
This makes me so sad because in the midst of the devastation of one terrorist attack I was asked to contribute to the making of another! For 30 years the UK and Ireland have been ravaged by the Paramilitary Bickering there - I see comparison in what happened to NYC and the bombing of Omagh - not the loss of life that New York has taken but is the death of only 1 son any less hurtful than the death of many?
So I urge you all at Lit - is you should be asked if you want to contribute - SAY NO!!! Maybe if we all do the peace will come for Ireland one day.
(As a form of disclaimer can I say that I support neither side in the struggles in Ireland - simply feel sad for a mother grieving for her child)
