A U.S. judge has agreed to referee a dispute among Florida political activists over who can use the phrase "Tea Party" in their name. A trial has been scheduled to begin on December 6 in U.S. District Court in West Palm Beach, Florida, in a lawsuit that questions whether anyone has a trademark or intellectual property right to the "Tea Party" name.

Hundreds of groups call themselves part of the Tea Party movement whose name alludes to the 18th century U.S. revolt against tea taxes and British colonial rule. They usually oppose big central government, deficit spending and President Barack Obama, but there is no hierarchy or formal affiliation among them. While Tea Partiers generally oppose federal government intervention, they have turned to the federal court to resolve a dispute that arose after Fred O'Neal, a central Florida lawyer and longtime anti-tax crusader, registered the "Tea Party" as a Florida political party in August.
Full story here.

What a bunch of posers. If they were real Tea Partiers, they'd settle their dispute like real men - with their fists, or perhaps their weapons.

I have visions of "statuesque," blue-haired grandmothers waddling around and swatting each other with soggy tea bags.

Hello, thank you...another wrinkle in the Tea Party saga...I scribbled a few words on another thread concerning the geneology of the movement and I just had the thought of the organization, quite a few years ago, that brought about Proposition 13, in Caleeeefornia and headed up a tax revolt.

Tomorrow, Tax Day, April 15th, could be an interesting guage of the strength of the movement as protests are planned across the nation...although if one watches only the Lamestream Media, one would never know...:)

Taking the temperature within the small circle of business people I still associate with, they are madder than hell and I can't even repeat their number one wish for fear of investigation by the FBI, but you can well imagine.

The LEFT, here, there and elsewhere, are scared to death by the Tea Party movement and Sarh Palin in particular, which I find quite satisfying in some small way....it exposes the true hatred of the middle class that the elite left expresses, scatologically, every chance they get.

Que sara, sara, eh?

It sounds like this Grass Roots Movement (GiRM) is being assulted by Republicans, who want to use the GiRMs as fund raising fodder, from another article I read a month or so ago.

The question is Who is "allowed" to call themselves "The Grand Exaulted" Tea Partier, and therefore be the address where you send the money. (Money is to Republicans as sugar is to ants, you can't beat them off it.)

There are lots of people who want to claim the money, hard to be a Political Party with out a place to store the fuel upon which our political system is founded.
How do you oppose Socialism with out some time at the Lesbian Bondage Strip Clubs to work out strategy?

Ami, you keep saying this. That the left is afraid of Sarah Palin.

Links? Stats? Any articles or polls that support your claims?

Because everything I've read says the opposite.

We aren't afraid of the Tea Party. Their gatherings are disorganized, their signs are loaded with poor grammar and bad spellings. Humorous.

They are so easy to ridicule.

Sarah Palin? Even most Republicans say she isn't qualified to be the prez.

I hope she runs. I HOPE she is the Republican candidate next time out.

Even the Republican males who support her would never vote for her.

A woman? As President? Heavens! That can never happen! Women should be barefoot and pregnant!

You're predictably amusing.

I looooove Sarah Palin and the Tea Party. I can't think of much of anything that the Democrats will love to have around in the next couple of elections than Sarah Palin and the Tea Party. I quake in my shoes at the thought of the Republicans fielding moderate candidates.

And as we all know, amicus batted 0 on election predictions the last go around.

Scared to death? You may be a slave to fear, Ami, as your constant paranoia illustrates, but the patriots on the left are not scared of the Tea Partiers and Sarah Palin. Amused? Yes. Disgusted? Another yes. But not scared. Quite the contrary. To us they look like rats scurrying around the deck of a sinking ship, and the more they scurry, the sooner their ship will go down.

If anyone is scared to death, it's the Tea Partiers themselves. They've totally bought into the fear message propagated by your heroes on talk radio and TV. Likewise, your "business associates" are fearful that the Dems will reinstate progressive taxation, which will be detrimental to their spoiled-little-rich-kid lifestyles. Yes, the harder we look at the Tea Partiers, the more infantile they appear. Hopefully, they won't run out of Huggies at their rally tomorrow.

There is a rising tide of political dissention and dissatisfaction in this country with both political parties and their irresponsible spending habits. People have begun to realize the extent of which they, their children, their grandchildren, ad infinitum will be paying off this debt load that is steadily accumulating.

The more impassioned and enthusiastic attend rallies and wave signs, there are many more that are quietly seething and waiting for November. Whosoever can harness and channel this anger and frustration into votes be it Republican or Democrat will win the day. ;)

Poor sweet sara, whistling solo as the sun begins to set on the liberal reign.

I can understand that and almost feel sympathy, well, not really...but as State after State rejects gay marriages and only the left wing courts bail you out in the forgotten East Coast...the Progressive dream of Socialized Medicine is headed for the courts with nearly half the States filing lawsuits.

High taxation and deficit spending on the State level is bringing about the dismissal of public employees, including the sacred teachers of the left.

Even the left wing foreign policy wonks are showing various shades of pale as the intent to weaken America has become obvious to all.

Your boy is a loser, SSS, and everyone but the far left knows it; even though he snubbed the left with 'don't ask...', still keeps Gitmo operating and has added boots on the ground in Afghanistan, though not enough to do the job, just to cost more American lives until he can put his tail between his legs and run out.

Obama is about to become the earliest 'lame duck' President in history. The Tea Party will not become a third party and split the vote, in fact, they are prompting the Republicans to renew their roots in small government and low taxes.

So keep on whstling away, m'dear, no one is listenings

Yes, Newsweek has an article this week about these extremist crazies.

They disgust me.

(And we seem to have more than our share right here on this forum.)

So groups of citizens expressing their dissatisfaction with the current state of things are 'crazies' and disgust you? Like it or not it's called freedom of assembly and expression. More power to them I say.

Fortunately there are some voices on this forum who disagree with the current state of things to balance things a tad. ;)

This brand of folks do, yes. A pretty stupid bunch as far as I've seen.

Now that the Republicans are blocking financial reform, the masses will have one more thing to be pissed off about. If the Dems play their cards right, the R's will self-destruct just in time for the elections.

I think both parties are in trouble. I think the Tea Party scares the crap out of the GOP because there's no one to get to and buy off. Sarah Palin wants to impose herself on the TP but she annoys people like me. She's a camp follower.

Damnit, James, your self admitted former association with the Democrats still lingers...

Palin is a 'play maker', in basketball, it is the player that passes off and sets up the shooters...I suspect she will not run for any office, but act to consolidate the Republican base while the 'Romney's' of the Party attempt to corral the Moderates and Independents.

This is not that bad a time for Republicans; a bad time was following the 20 consecutive years of Roosevelt and Truman. In hindsight, I am perplexed at how the Republican Party even survived. Then the Kennedy/Johnson years, only Vietnam interfered to break the string.

Can't answer for him, but they sadden me. Not because they are dissatisfied and frustrated. There's a lot to be dissatified and frustrated about, with the economy in the ditch.

But because they're being conditioned to bark up the wrong trees, and up imaginary trees, due to ignorance and a partisan barrage of misinformation.

Wrong again Liar, even the 'death panels' are an accurate prediction as demand outstrips supply and they are going to sideline granny & grampa to treat the still productive citizens. The ole Cost/benefit ratio that is the deciding factor in socialist and semi socialist societies, there is no benefit in expending funds on the aged.

There is no barrage of misinformation but a great deal of valid apprehension at the direction this government is moving in terms of individual liberty and prosperity.

I really hope there is a great outpouring of tax protesters and Tea Party advocates today, April 15th, Tax Day in the US when Income Taxes are due to be paid.

I hope it is large enough to slap you and others up longside da head with a reality check that something large and important is happening in the US.

You can be assured I will remind you of it.

You can have Palin, and every Republican, too.

Every Republican I know is a thief with an itch to join the Democraps.

I dont think anyone knows where the cat will jump in November. But the folks I speak with are dumping incumbents.

Ultimately, this is what it's all about - having been marginalized by your own party, which follows the money (I coulda told you), you really just want to regain that feeling of being in charge, of being "large and important".

They're still pulling your strings though ami, all they really want is the dems to "fail" for political reasons, but if the dems fail,it's once again, the middle class that will pay the price - and just like last time, they have no plan to improve anything, they'll just keep shoveling this money into offshore accounts, as that when the shit really hits the fan, they can just quietly slide off stage and pontificate form afar.

It's multinationals there ami, and they'd like nothing better than to turn America into another maquiladora.

It's the neo-cons pulling your strings that hate you ami, you and your quaint nationalism - they've been making fools out of you for years, and what has it gotten you?

Are you better off than you were Four years ago? How about Fourteen?

The whole effing political system is FORD vs CHEVY; they want your money and control of every breath you draw.

And you give both to them, thinking they'll be there for you when the Barbarians come. But they abandon your ass and hide-out at the castle till the danger passes (youre out of money and fresh virgins).

Ladies, Gentlemen, Folks! This isn't about whether the Tea Party is crazy or not, or scary or not, or about to start a revolution and the Times they are a' changin' (weird since the only change of late is that the economy is a bit better; yeah, that's worth panicking over ). All I posted was an article about a fight in Florida over the Tea Party name.

If some folks would avoid using this to trumpet to the rest that "we're gonna kick your ass you losers!" then the rest wouldn't trumpet back their own insults. I mean, really, don't you have any opinion on the subject at hand and ONLY the subject at hand?

Yes, that's why I termed the bunch stupid.

For many in the bunch, too, I think it's just a cover for racism--the black president thing. And the remainder are Chicken Little sheep.
