Whenever I see a new item on my home page (comment, favorited story, follower) I look at the profile of the person who made the entry. Some of these can be pretty entertaining, and some just make me realize I have kindred spirits all over the world.

Recently I'm noticing many of these say 'this Literotica member has not yet completed their story'. Some of these have been members for many years, but it seems like most have been for 2 years or less. I know I'm pretty paranoid, but I'm a little nervous about the eyes of Gilead (that large portion of the population of the US who think they know what's best for all of us) infiltrating all parts of our lives they don't approve of (especially their ever-increasing definition of porn).

Does anyone have insight into other reasons there are so many new, anonymous members? Am I just being paranoid?

Some people don't fill out details in their profile. It's not anything nefarious. I don't have many details filled out in my profile, for privacy reasons.

I do not show up as new, because I first thought about trying to write about a decade ago.But I have no profile set up, and as is obvious, no avatar either. I want to write anonymously here. Between what I post here and what I write, anybody who cared could build a partial description of me. In general, I avoid putting information about me online anywhere. It's kind of odd, because there is a lot of soul bearing in my writing, but maybe that is why I would prefer to have no tie between my writing here and me IRL.

I am starting to think about putting something in there as I have become more active in AH, but not enough to actually pull the trigger yet.

The bio isn't required, and I don't expect to see them when I follow up on a new follower, a vote or a comment. It's nothing new. It's nothing sinister. Women, in particular, have reasons to not complete their profile.

It's been a while since I set up my membership. I didn't add a bio for months after I registered, and all but the first line of what's there now came years later.

It's never even occurred to me to write a bio. I'm not a spy*.

* but then I guess I would say that either way, wouldn't I...

My belief is, most Bio's are false anyway...
Nobody wants to reveal any more than they have to.
Most people, I know I do, use several layers of protection. Names and Email address's included...
Is there a nefarious nature to the Anon's among us???
Who knows.
It is what it is...

I use my bio as a newsfeed. Milestones, new stories coming up or just published, that sort of thing. Nothing more personal than that.

I'm actually more interested in what else my readers are looking at than anything else about them.

Not everyone wants to register their email address and fill out a profile on a porn site, for a variety of reasons. And, trust me, if somebody was trying to infiltrate the site, they'd fill out everything to make them look like a hot single 20 something, not leave it blank.

New members are far more likely trying to actively avoid the scrutiny of porno hall monitors than to be such folk in disguise.
But you should be paranoid.
We're watching you.

Privacy, come on Dave. I've been to your bar in The California Casino in Vegas. :ROFLMAO:

(Googled it. It's on the internet, it must be true.)

What's made me paranoid (only slightly ;) ) is when I've learned I'm someone's first or only followed author. Odd feeling that makes me think: Really? Me?

Lol, privacy. Pornhub has written whitepapers about just how much privacy you can expect. There are several marketing studies out there about the changing habits of users providing information, their reluctance to do so, and how to get it anyway based on demographics and content. It's interesting reading if you're into that sort of thing.

Totally paranoid. Don't worry about it.

Not to sound paranoid, but doesn't it make you wonder what happened to the other authors...?
Right. Like did someone get lazy and not bother to follow anyone else?

Or for the ego stroke, did someone create an account just so they could follow me? 🤨

I've gotten a couple of comments over the years from people who claimed to have made an account just so they could favorite one of my stories. And, yeah, they are literally a single account which favorited only that one story. Not knocking it, because a follower is a follower, but... :)

Cheers! We'll take what we can get.

It happens. I've had a reader tell me they created an account here because of one of my stories. Unlike @Areala-chan though, they do now follow other writers (mostly those I recommend in my own stories).

Just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean that they are not out to get you.

There was a time where all the Illuminati that OP speaks of didn’t realize that they could blow their cover through their November 30th birthdays! (Wait, was it that they all joined lit on November 30th? Now I forget.

I don’t think that shows any more though.

Edit: ;)
