Locals are friendly.
I came here first as tourist. That place is overwhelming. I travelled a lot but it's the only place that make me stop.
The winters are a bit too long and too cold but so beautyful that they are forgiven.
The light, you have to see the light.
One of these summers may be?

wolfes are 20 min from here so are elks and black bears.
Whales 3 hours.

Do you live in a rural or urban area?

Urban, but drive 45mins in almost any directions and it becomes very rural, very fast.

If Urban, is it a large or small city/town?

Medium sized city.

How friendly are the locals in your area?

The locals are very friendly, you can't walk into a store without someone asking you for money.

Do you have any tourist attractions near you?

A few. Although I'm a native, so I've never been.

Whats the night life like?

Well as long as you don't mind everything closing at 2am it's ok.

Any great eating establishments close by?

Yep. You can find any type of food you're looking for.

Do you live inland or seaside?

Inland, about 2 hours from the Pacific.

Tell me something that only a local would know about your area?

I could tell you where all the politicians have lunch, but do you really want to know that? I could also tell you all the surface streets to get around without getting on a freeway, but that's a secret.

Whats the best thing about the area you live in?

The diversity. Drive 2 hours East you can be skiing, drive 2 hours west your at the ocean, a few hours south you've got desert, and a few hours north you can see the redwoods, and amazing mountains.

Do you live in a rural or urban area? Suburban.

If Urban, is it a large or small city/town? 20,000 in the town itself.

How friendly are the locals in your area? Not very. Neighbors are nnice but it takes a while to "Break in" to the overall area.

Do you have any tourist attractions near you? Sure! Boston, Lexington, Concord. Wanna come see where Paul revere made his famous ride?

Whats the night life like? In town there isn't any. Boston is down the road so there is plenty happening there.

Any great eating establishments close by? One or two local.. Everything you could want in Boston.

Do you live inland or seaside? 30 miles from the ocean.

Tell me something that only a local would know about your area? There is a cool place up the street. It's like a greenhouse but it's filled with thousands of butterflies from all over the world. (even my neighbors don't know I had the stream behind the house stocked with trout by the state. Shhh! Don't tell anyone!)

Whats the best thing about the area you live in? mmm.. Boston is a college town so there is always something happening. The hard part is figuring out where things are happening and how to get there. (Don't bother asking for directions - no one else knows how to get there either.)

If Urban, is it a large or small city/town? hmmm well on a world scale, I guess Sydney is rather small when compared to places like New York, but i like it

How friendly are the locals in your area? Ummm should i ask them and find out?

Do you have any tourist attractions near you? well i live near historic Botany Bay... but appart from that being where Captain Cook first landed, thats all. It is VERY different now.

Whats the night life like? Sleep is great :)

Any great eating establishments close by? OH GOSH YES!!!!!!! but i don't mind travelling either.... my record is a 70 minute drive for dessert :D

Do you live inland or seaside? hmm i think Botany Bay is right on the coast... hence the big blue thing called the Pacific :)

Tell me something that only a local would know about your area? Trains only stop at Carlton once every half hour in off peak times. *hehehe* well you asked :)

Whats the best thing about the area you live in? It is very much what i would consider "suburbia"

I live in a town, and, some locals are friendly, some are complete asses. The night life can get pretty rowdy, because we have many people here that think their the shit, and, can get rather loud & obnoxious. That, and, the drunks from the ton of bars around. All in all, it's not bad. There's not much to do, though. Unless you like going to the movies & hanging out at the bar. Not that those activites are bad, of course.

Do you live in a rural or urban area?

Rural. A township outside a small town about 25 miles north of ab urban area. I have farms within walking distance and have 1.25 acres of my own.

If Urban, is it a large or small city/town?

The nearest town is small. 10,000 folks.

How friendly are the locals in your area?

Very. They nod & smile. The local recycling center almost doubles as a community center on Saturday mornings.

Do you have any tourist attractions near you?

The entire town is a historic district, filled with neat little shops. There is a covered bridge a mile down the road from me.

Whats the night life like?

Do you like quiet walks and seeing movies just before they come out on video?

Any great eating establishments close by?

A few nice restaurants.

Do you live inland or seaside?

I live near the inland sea. (5 miles from Lake Michigan.)

Tell me something that only a local would know about your area?

We actually like the Illinois tourists, despite our bitching about their driving.

Whats the best thing about the area you live in?

The quiet.

Do you live in a rural or urban area? Urban

If Urban, is it a large or small city/town? Small City Population 40,000.

How friendly are the locals in your area? MY immediate neighbors are wonderful...pretty much everyone else is brazillian and they dont talk to me:(

Do you have any tourist attractions near you? Im about a half hour or so give or take from Concord and Lexington.

Whats the night life like? They roll up the sidewalks pretty early around here. Though we have a few good bars and one tacky dance club. And the chinese places are the best bars around!

Any great eating establishments close by? Great steak place The BEST chinese you ever had!

Do you live inland or seaside? Inland

Tell me something that only a local would know about your area? Where to find the best hot dog vendor!

Whats the best thing about the area you live in? It is close to everything yet 10 minutes away it is pure rural.

I live in one of the most metropolitan regions in the USA, but the population of my city is less than 800,000 and is only 7 miles by 7 miles. It's surrounded by satellite cities that bring the numbers up to the low teens of millions.

The locals are a bit distant and not too friendly to strangers.

There's LA, where everybody smiles as they fuck you over, and there's SF, where we scoff at you until we trust you, then you're blood.

We've got a few tourist attractions. :D
The whole city is a tourist attraction actually...

Night life? Stuff closes up surprisingly early here, and all the bars close around 2am if I recall right. Despite this there is a very vibrant night life to the city. Clubs, bars, theatres, restaurants, sex clubs, coffee shops, beaches, you name it -we got it. Everything but bath houses, they closed those down in the early 80s due to AIDS.

Eating? San Francisco is known to have some of the best restaurants in the world. This is a major cuisine mecca. The international and integrated nature of the city brings together some very interesting mixes at times and you will find fusions available nowhere else.

Seaside on 3 sides. We're on the northern tip of a penninsula, the bottom tip of a backwards 'C' shaped bay.

Local only info? Hmm... that's a hard one because the city is so well written about. Something most people don't realize till they get here is that the racial mixup is truly global. The porportions are just about the same as if you took a poll of the entire globe. This means whites are a minority, East Asians are the majority, and just about EVERYTHING else can be found. People are also often shocked at just how integrated it all is. Being so physically small, we're forced to live together and we'e managed to build a peace over this fact.
This may seem like a strange choice, and I'm sure you're all thinking 'so what, that's not so strange... but I've rarely met anyone who actually understoodthis before they saw it' You don't know the meaning of multicultural until you've been here. You just can't explain it and have it be truly understood.

Best thing: No matter where you are, you're within walking distance of something really neat to do and or see, including nature.

metro area, medium to large town. LOL! on the surface, yes; they are friendly.loads of things to do around here. Its South Fla., after all. Lots of clubs/bars too, with all sorts of places to dine. I live 5 minutes from the ocean. On the local knowledge, I suppose it would be how to get around the area with out having to drive the usual crowded roadways. The multi ethnic backgrounds are IMHO one of the best things about the area. :D

Do you live in a rural or urban area? Urban

If Urban, is it a large or small city/town? Biggest city in NZ

How friendly are the locals in your area? depends which suburb

Do you have any tourist attractions near you? America's Cup Village

Any great eating establishments close by? Heaps

Tell me something that only a local would know about your area? I am a Westie

Whats the best thing about the area you live in? ME ! ;)

Do you live in a rural or urban area?
Urban. Molto urban. One of the neighbourhoods surrounding the city centre of Copenhagen. It's about a five minute bike ride to the city centre.

If Urban, is it a large or small city/town?
Copenhagen has just under 2 million inhabitants. But the neighbourhood I live in, Vesterbro (or Westbridge) has about 80,000 people in it.

How friendly are the locals in your area?
Very. It's an old neighbourhood, built when Copenhagen expanded in the mid to late 1800's. But it's been completely renovated by the city so there are thousands of new residents, most of them young, trendy and cool. They mix well with the older residents and the immigrants. A cool hybrid.

Do you have any tourist attractions near you?
The red light district is around the corner. Tivoli, the world-famous amusement park that inspired Walt Disney to build Disneyland is a couple of minutes away. The Little Mermaid is a 20 minute bike ride. And about 40 museums are within a 20 minute bike ride.
The city is the third largest cruise ship port in the world, so the whole city is really a tourist attraction. "Ooh, look Bob! Everything's so OLD! Are you filming this?!"

Whats the night life like?
Groovy. Lots of cafés, restaurants and nightclubs. You drink at cafés until 1-2 AM and then head out to the nightclubs until 5-6 after which you eat breakfast at one of the bars that serve breakfast - before heading home.

Any great eating establishments close by?
Copius amounts. From every country, culture. Name it. It's here.

Do you live inland or seaside?
Copenhagen is a harbour city. The harbour is only a few hundred metres away. You can swim there. Long silky beaches are within a 30 minute radius on bike. Take the train a bit farther, and there's more.

Tell me something that only a local would know about your area?
That's a secret... ;)

Whats the best thing about the area you live in?
The multicultural melting pot. The tolerance that is absent in other parts of the country. For immigrants, prostitution, sex shops, etc. And sitting outside a café, in the sun, drinking beer, watching girls ride by on bikes and trying to catch sight of their knickers/or lack of!

There's some great answers here guys! Its really interesting seeing the different sorts of area's that we all live in.

I suppose that I really should answer my own questions too....

Do you live in a rural or urban area?
I live in the suburbs on the edge of a city, its great as only 10 minutes down the street it turns rural...I feel this gives me the best of both worlds.

If Urban, is it a large or small city/town?
Well it is a capital city, so its quite large.

How friendly are the locals in your area?
Oh they are great, I guess thats one hing about Australians we tend to be a friendly bunch.

Do you have any tourist attractions near you?
Stacks! There are four theme parks, some world famous beaches and some great country side attractions too.

Whats the night life like?
Its good, there are heaps of places to go.

Any great eating establishments close by?
Yep, as with any large city the food trade is competitive...some of the outdoor cafes in my area serve fantastic food.

Do you live inland or seaside?
Seaside, about 20 minutes to the beaches.

Tell me something that only a local would know about your area?
We get Koala's in the gum tree's in my front yard, most people don't realise that they are in this area as its not rural. I could also tell you all the shortcuts, where the police have their radar's and where to get the best pizza in town!

Whats the best thing about the area you live in?
I love the fact that I'm so close to all the things I want like shopping centres, schools etc yet a short drive and your in the 'bush'. I love that I live in a place that people all over the world travel miles to see.
