Titans Tower loomed out of the East River, on a small rocky island owned by the giant corporation of Wayne Enterprises from Gotham City. The ten story tower was still a new sight to the citizens of nearby New York, as were the inhabitants.

One of them was arriving now, though no one watching the tower would see him. A network of tunnels came from the many sub-basements, and it was down one of those that a compact, sleek red motorcycle was rocketing. The machine made oddly little noise as it shot through the passage, which pleased the driver. It looked like the sound dampers he'd installed were working nicely.

He was somewhat shorter than most boys his age, with the slender but tightly muscled build of a born acrobat. His hair was black, originally partedon one side, but the wild had styled it inot a spiky mass that was just as good to his sensabilities. His face was partly covered by a black domino mask, white one way lenses over his eyes. They were a clear and piercing blue, but none of his friends had ever seen them. His face was handsome, in that pretty boy way that girls loved and other guys hated.

Black boots came up to just below his knees, curved metal plates on the front, the metal dulled down so it wouldn't glint in the light. Tight pants of vibrant green were met by an oddly sectioned yelloe belt, a circular bubkle connecting it. His tight fitting shirt was bright red, though the short sleeves were green as well. Gloves of the same green covered his hands and forearms, strange little flaps along them hiding some of his toys. Flowing behind him was a large cape. It had a high collar that fasteneed around his neck, and the outside was light absorbing black, but the inside was a bright yellow. On his right pectoral there was a black disk, surmounted by a stylized yellow R.

Robin screeched the Redbird to a halt as the tunnel ended in an elevator. He punched in a code at a munbered panel, stepping inside as the elevator rose to first the garage level, then to the first floor. As he did so, he marshalled his arguements in his mind. The others still needed convincing.

____________

A loud, gutteral roar met him as he stepped off the elevator. Below the raised area the elevator door opened onto, a massive green bear was bellowing at a third youth. The bear demanded attention first, because of its size and location, then becase of the color. Rather than the brown fur one would expect in a bear of that size, it was leaf green.

The young man it was advancing upon next attractedth eye. He was tall for his age, over six feet already, and massively built. The thing was what he was mostly built from metal and plastic. His head was shaved, which looked better considering the upper right quarter of his head was metal and white-swirled blue plastic, an orange glow coming from his robotic eye. Save for the strong and roughly good looking face, all that was flesh was the skin on his arms. The microship texture blue plastic alos made up the bulky shoulder joints, the plates on his forearms and thighs. The rest was white enameled or gun-metal colored steel. His torso and arms were slightly larger than his legs, though as a whole he was proportionally larger than the normal human form. He aslo seemed unconcered with the beast bearing down on him. "It don't matter how much you complain, it's still YOUR turn to do the dishes!"

The bear made an annoyed sound, and suddenly in it's place was a gangly boy with hair and skin of the same leaf green color. His hair was short cut and somehow jutted straight up for the most part. A black skintight outfit with a purple stripe down the middle, that flared to form mock briefs past his belt, and boots of the same purple clung to his awkward looking form. Long pointy ears stuck straight out of his head, flattening with irritation. "No way!" "Not after you cooked up all that barbeque!" 'You made a bigger mess than when Star made that "glorg" stuff!" "You turned the kitchen into a disaster area, you clean it up!"

Before Robin could intervene, there was an orange and lavender blur that shot past. The blur slowed into a girl, and quite a girl at that. Her hair was a lustersous red brown, straight and falling to below the small of her back. Her large eyes were apple green, and shone with sincerity and an open heart. Her skin was a light orange color, and her body was even more pleasant that her slima nd delicate face. A lavender halter top crested by a silver neck guard clung to the swell of her breasts, a matching short skirt and thigh-high boots showcasing her youthful body. Bands of silver adorned her upper arms, and long bracers covered her forearms. "Friends, we should not argue over this!" Her voice was high and light, pleading with the two boys. "We all enjoyed the sauce laden meat that Cyborg prepared, perhaps we should all take a hand in cleaning up the remains of his culinary struggle."

"....It wasn't the best I've ever had...so you guys go ahead." The dry, rather dismissive voice came from the left. "Besides, it's not my turn, so I'm not going to do it." The girl who spoke was sitting cross-legged, floating about a meter off the floor. Her dark purple hair was parted int he middle, curving along her round and alluring face to fall just below her jawline. A red gem sat on her forehead, and intensely bored eyes of deep, deep blue gazed at the scene. A billowing blue cloak, it's hood lowered for the moment, went about her shoulders, bracelets and small soft soled leath boots of the same blue going with it. A one piece legless black bodysuit covered her body, perhaps unintenionally showcasing her body, one that looked a bit more mature than the orange skinned girl.

Before the arguement could get worse, Robin cleared his throat. "Guys, why don't we just let it wait a little while." "We've got something to talk about anyway."

The four other teens stopped a moment, then Robin sighed as the alien girl hurled her self into him. Though, really...he didn't mind that much. "Robin!" "You are here!" "I am so glad to see you."

He grinned, "I'm happy to see you too, Starfire."

Cyborg and Robin slapped their hands together. "Hey, Robin." "Wondered if you were gonna be late, man." "Hey, can you tell Beast Boy that it's his turn to do dishes?"

Beast Boy glared at his best friend. "Can't you just lay off of that for one second?" He grinned at Robin then, "So we still going ahead with the tryout thing?"

Raven made a disgusted noise but said nothing else.

Robin nodded. "Yes." "It's a good idea, and I think it could do the team a lot of good." "There are lost of other young heroes out there, we've met a few, but there are others." "I think it would help make us all better at what we do if more of learned and fought together."

Cyborg shrugged, "I guess so...but come on, you think there's anybody good enoufh to meet my standards?"

"Sitting around in teh garage or the Playstation 2 all day, being loud...yes, I think we can find that," Raven piped up, her eys now closed.

Cyborg gave her a dirty look as Starfire twirled into the air again. "It is a wonderful idea!" "More warriors for our righteous battle against evil, and more friends!"

Robin smiled. "We can hope Star." "They should be arriving soon, so let's go outside and see how shows up."

Flame Sniper

So, the giant T out in the middle of the bay.

Somehow she didn’t think it’d be that hard to miss. Her motorcycle roared beneath her as she sped along, the wind whipping her golden hair behind her, freeing it from the braids she had it in. It would just be getting there that’d be the bitch.

The lights streaked down her helmet, down the smooth lines of the figure-hugging biking suit she had on, red and white to fit her personality. She had heard about the Teen Titans [ or Team Titans ] - hell, it was impossible not to. She had been a small town superhero herself, the type that usually went largely ignored. Besides, it seemed like her powers were more suited for destruction rather than good, even to the point of being a cliché. So what had she done? Spent most of her time as a good student, crazy enough.

She had recently moved to New York as a college student, majoring in the unknown. Truth be told, she spent more time checking out the city than she did in classes….or rather, more time in the clubs. She’d been a bit of a homebody when she was at home, but she chalked that up to being unsure about her powers at the time. She grinned to herself a bit under the helmet. You know, most people got into some sort of accident to get their powers- she was lucky enough to have been born with them. Her family had been a bit on the mystic side, anyway. Physics and the lot:

She just happened to have the misfortune to not be born into the same pattern. Something about the stars crossing in an odd way and the sun being too strong in all of her houses. Pst. Some people just didn’t know when to admit that Leos were just the best. Still, her upbringing had been….different, to say the least.

Screeching to a halt in front of the water, she glanced out to the “T” looming ever closer. Well, that was just fine and dandy - but how was she supposed to get there? She was sure there’d be security up the wazoo, and getting shot wasn’t really high on her priority list. Idling the motorcycle, she let a leg drop to the ground, and partially stood up. Taking off her helmet, she took a look around at the other people who had lined up for this opportunity as well. All sorts of spandex wearing freaks with different agendas, she assumed, but she hadn’t been around this long to just fall in league with the wannabes. She didn’t need a gimmick.

Besides, maybe getting across to the T was some sort of test in and out of itself. She put her helmet on one of the handlebars, and began to rake her gold hair away from her face. By all means, she would be classified as “black”, or “African-American” - however you wanted to put it. However, the hair and eye color left a bit up to debate. Aforementioned dark gold hair she was trying to work back into a ponytail, and her sharp crimson eyes took in the rest of the scene as her full lips clamped down on the rubber band. She was fully aware of the strange stares she was getting - competition she had never dealt with all too well. One of her faults, but, what were they gonna do about it. She was good at what she did.

Just because she didn’t feel the need to fly in didn’t make her any less of a person.

Eyes accused of looking like a fox’s focused on the T again. Some time today - she was pretty sure that she had a paper due.

As if in response to her musings, there was the sound of something mechanical latching into place, and the surface of the bay stirred as something rose from the depths. Within moments, a bridge of gleaming steel slowly came to the surface, water streaming off of the top and laticced sides. It came to the edge of the rocky shore the small group of "applicants" stood then there was anotehr click and it ceased moving.

A tall, athletic young man dressed in brown boots, black pants and a dull orange shirt that had a stylized "Radiation" symbol on it in black stepped onto it. "Um...well, it looks like they're ready for us."

Another young man with a slim runner's build, who had been nervously pacing back and forth, blurred into motion, halfway across the bridge before he stopped and turned to face the others. He wore a one piece suit, the bottom of which was red, fading into a yellow long sleeved top with a red lightning bolt ont he chest, and similar ones mid-way on his forearms. His mask left eyes, nose, and mouth uncoverd, and allowed his shock of orange-red hair free reign. Where his ears would be, there were small, odd golden wings. "Hey, I know I'm the fastest boy alive, but you guys can move a little quicker." "Come on, already!"

From high overhead, a green eagle watched the group, diving down with a cry to where the other Titans had made the gear for the tryouts ready. A few feet above ground, the bird grew into the gangly elfin Beast Boy. "There's six people here." "I guess that's good...nut, shouldn't we get a bigger turn out?" "I mean, we're the Teen Titans you know?"

"I wouldn't worry about it, Beast Boy." Robin was checking the power indicators that Cyborg had devised as Starflire flitted about as a test subject. "Looks good, Starfire!" The Teen Wonder grinned ath his green friend. "Remember, there're a couple young heroes who're already honorary Titans." "Plus...you might be overestimating our celebrity."

Cyborg laughed, "Yeah, B.B. thinks that we're so big, he's going to be the next Superman."

Beast Boy snorted, "Yeah, right!" His head became that of a lagre bat. "Batman maybe, I coud BE a bat." Behind them Robin frowned a bit, looking as though he wanted to say something. Then he shook his head.

"I will go and greet the new arrivals," Starfire said, practically bouncing through the air as she made her way over to them. Kid Flash blurred up suddenly, and she let out cheerful bellow. "Welcome all of you to our home!" "Maybe it will be your home too!" "I am so glad to see all of you here." "My name is Starfire, and I hope that we will all battle side by side against eveil soon."

Shockwave

Siobhan pushed a stray lock of dark hair back from her face. Startling light blue eyes and high cheekbones had led many to glance her way already today, and she had been late in getting here.

To make matters worse, she felt awful. Her stomach churned beneath her calm exterior, the usual heartburn that stress brought serving to make her wait more than a little uncomfortable. She had heard of a tryout to be held, a chance for her to finally feel comfortable away from the general populace that feared her so much....for the crime of being different.

She turned to watch the bus pull slowly away. She had chosen public transportation to arrive at this point, it attracted less attention. Yet as she watched the vehicle fade out of sight, she couldn't help but feel a pang of loneliness as she slowly meandered towards the group that was already assembling.

Would she finally find a home with these people? Or was that asking too much too soon?

The closer she got to them, the worse she felt. She had always managed stress well, but like many things, it took a toll on her. Even as she neared the group enough to begin a precursory scrutiny of them, she spun as a sudden voice surprised her, causing her already rioting stomach to lurch violently.

"Welcome all of you to our home!"

Siobhan spun, badly startled, to lock her gaze upon a green eyed, auburn haired beauty that appeared to be wearing some kind of spandex uniform and more amazingly than that....seemed to walk on thin air!

Red hair.....green eyes......hell......she looks more Irish than I feel right now.

Suddenly she felt slightly out of place in her denim jeans and vest, white cotton t-shirt showing underneath. She certainly wasn't the sparkling, bubbly figure that this Titan seemed to be. Was that what would be expected of her?

"Maybe it will be your home too! I am so glad to see all of you here. My name is Starfire, and I hope that we will all battle side by side against evil soon."

Swallowing another influx of acid from her roiling innards, Siobhan boldly stepped apart from the small crowd once more. A small clearing of her throat served to not only calm her raging nerves currently, but hopefully attract the attention of the woman who so obviously had called them all here today.

"Siobhan McKenaugh, pleasure ta meet ye, Starfire. As this were told ta be a tryout o' sorts, I'm sure I'd not be the only one questionin just what is expected o' the lot of us."

A nervous hand ran through her curly locks as swallowed hard again. She only hoped that she wasn't being too bold.

She stuck close to her bike, seemingly unphased by the flying girl. No big, right? The orange skin color was questionable, but that could be anything from natural to a really bad tan. She seemed nice enough though, but Flame Sniper wasn’t one to start a conversation.

Patting her chest, she fished around for her cigarettes. It was a bad habit, she knew, and she really was trying to quit, but right about now it seemed fitting. It’d take forever for everyone to introduce themselves….and she spread out her options mentally. Stay and miss turning in the paper, throw her name out there and then leave [ in the classiest way imagined, sort of like Batman - but wait, that would only work AFTER she did something insanely stylish ], or just leave now.

Leaning against her bike, she gave up the search for the cigarettes and partially unzipped her biking suit. From beneath the red and white fabric, there was a swell of smooth chocolate skin, cut off by the blood-red fabric of her undershirt beneath. Rolling up the cuffs of her sleeves, she glanced back to the girl who’d just introduced herself, and then to Starfire. Might as well be the practical one in this.

“Excuse me,” she started. Her voice was husky, had the possibility of having a southern drawl, “but Ah…” she stopped, cleared her throat, and started over. She had to be careful of her accent - most New Yorkers had a field day with how she sounded. “But I was wondering just how long this would take, and do we have private auditions rather than rushing in in some sort of grand melee….” she had a habit of accenting everything she said with hand gestures, flowing and graceful.

Reaching up to her hair, she wrapped it deftly about her palm, before twisting it into a bun and pinning it. With her hair away from her face, the sharpness of her red gaze seemed all the more startling.

"....Whoa...." Beast Boy was staring at the two girls as they spoke to Starfire, his eyes wide. Starfire, and especially Raven to his mind, were major hotties, and those two were as well. He knew he was blushing a bit, and felt Raven's steady gaze on him. Yelping quietly, he swelled into the shape of a great stallion. But even in that magnificent shape, he could still feel Raven's almost tamglibe disapproval. He whickered softly and hung his head.

"S'all right, man." Cyborg came up next to him, also watching the two girls. "I know how you feel."

Raven glared at the two further, then ghosted over to Robin. "You should get things started before the Wonder Twins scare everyone off."

Robin nodded. "Okay..just got the last one calibrated." Robin then hopped up on top of the computer, executing a series of flips to land in front of the applicants. "Sorry about the wait." "I'm Robin."

Starfire lowered until she was just a few inches off the ground, "Robin, our possible friends wish to know how long these proceedings shall take, and in what manner they will unfold." "Will it take long?" "I wish to show our new friends our glorious home and engage quickly in the sharing of stories and the laughing at jokes."

Robin couldn't help but smile. Sometimes she annoyed him, but with what he usually dealt with in Gotham, her cheer was remarkably soothing. "Don't worry, guys." "This won't take long." "Basically, we want to see what you can do." "We've got some obstacle courses set up, and I know Raven wanted to do an empathic reading of each of you as well." "If you'd rather not do that, I understand, but it might effect how things go."

"It's entirely possible that all of you will be accepted, but you won't be full Titans yet." "There'll be more training, as well as just getting to know you." The dark haired boy grinned, "It might be better to think of this as a preliminary."

Robin began handing small electronics devices, the face plate of which was mostly screen, surrounded by that blue chip-imprinted plastic that Cyborg's shoulder joints were made of. "Cyborg whipped these up for you to wear...these give us readings about your powers and how they affect your bodies as you use them." 'We'd like each of you to wear one as you go through your course."

He then produced a set of six straws from his utility belt, each one had a differetn color stopper on it. One was orange, one red, one green, one gray, one black, and one blue. He then covered the colors, mixed them up and held them out to the contestants. "Draw a straw and we'll pair up, one of us for each of you."

The stallion trotted up, shifting back into Beast Boy. "Uh, your math is off...there are six of them and five of us."

Robin nodded. "That's why I asked one of our honorary Titans to give us a hand."

From the nearby shore, a great spout of water shot up. In it, a dark figure shot upward, bursting from the top of the spout. The lithe youth landed on the shore in a half-crouch, using one hand as well as his feet to absorb the imapct. Long black hair flowed past his shoulders, his regally handsome face in an easy smile, black eyes still somehow warm. He wore a tight bodysuit of black and the light blue of seawater. "Sorry I'm late, Robin." "Had to stap and deal with Black Manta again."

Robin shook hands with the visitor. "It's cool." "Everyone, this is Aqualad." "He's an honorary Titan and he'll be helping us out today." "Now, let's get things started."

The words were barely out of his mouth when one of the straws vanished form his hand as a yellow and red streak blurred past. Robin glared at Kid Flash as he came to a stop a few feet away. "Come on, already, guys." "Weren't yout he ones you said you didn't want this to take long?"

Flame Sniper

She took everything in with…not so much as a jaded look, or one of optimism….but something in-between. Alive enough not to be called disinterested. As they spoke, she unzipped her biking suit all the way. It was good when she was out on the streets, but now it was just getting hot. Unfortunate for her, the smooth nature in which she removed the suit seemed…a bit too sexual. With a slight frown, she tugged it from her body. Stepping out of it, she folded it neatly, and straightened out her clothes under it. She was clad in a red wife beater, jeans, and her usual pair of once-white addias. When the suit was off, the scent of incense took over her form, as if she had been burning it within the suit. SMILE shouted the red white beater, above a design of a box with X’s for eyes and a straight line for a mouth.

Obstacle course, huh? For some reason she had a flashback of playing on a jungle gym. As the green one transformed into a horse, she had to fight back the urge to step up and pet him. That was adorable! She hid a slight smile behind her hand. She wasn’t sure how he’d take to laughing at his powers, and she didn’t want to make a bad first impression. Of course, she might already be doing that by not introducing herself and asking a question that made it sound like she didn’t want to be here. Well, at the time she thought it was only practical…

She was snapped back to reality as the chip was presented to her. Pursing her lips, she took a closer look at it, closing one crimson eye. Huh. Supposed to wear em? Flipping it over, she noticed the pin. Convenient - like wearing a button. She pinned it to the shoulder-strap of her shirt, close to her heart. There. That might help the reading a bit more. Rubbing the bared flesh of her stomach idly while she listened, she luxuriated in the feel of her powerful abs. A lot of gym time had gone into those babies, and every time she could, she took the chance to show them off. It was only right, after all.

As the boy came from the water, she stepped back instinctively…then found herself taking a step forward once she saw him. Whoa. Total cutie. How was her hair? Quick as a wink, she raked it back into place, and tried to summon the energy for a smile. Shit. Let’s face it, late night cram sessions were taking their toll on her. Rather than a smile, she stifled a yawn. With a sheepish grin, she spoke for the second time. “Sorry about that - finals week is a killer.” She rolled back her shoulders. “It ain’t that I’m not much for talking, I’m just reallyyyyyy fuckin’ tired.” Realizing that she swore, she slapped her palm lightly. “Sorry; I forget that some people don’t like to hear that sort of language.” Alright, girl - now it was time to close that big ole Southern mouth!

As the straws were presented, she folded her arms behind her back, waiting for the other candidates to take one. The idea that it seemed like “they were all winners” sort of irked her. What would be point of try-outs if they all got to be honorary Titans? Seemed sort of odd to her, and definitely took the edge of what she thought was gonna be a good contest. But, still, she had to make sure to pull out all the stops, to prove that she was worth something.

Well, as long as she wasn’t paired up with Aqualad. Something told her that he might not take too kindly to her powers. Or that she liked crab. But look at this fool! Speeding by….Before she knew it, she opened her mouth: “Whoa, there, Speedy Gonzales. Patience is a virtue, ain’t it?” She moved forward with the confident swagger of a cowboy to retrieve one of the straws. “At least thas how I was taught. I reckon things might be a bit different here…” Now, just to see what color the straw would present for her….

Beast Boy and Cyborg tried (largely unsuccessfully) to stifle laughs as Flame Sniper swore. Raven and Robin, seemed largely unfazed. The boy with the radiation symbol on his shirt blanched, as did a few of the other applicants.

Starifre noted the reaction. "Oh, I have never encountered this word before." She looked at the gathered group. "It creates such a strong effect...is this a word of power or of religious significance?" "Tell me, this "Fucking," what does it mean?"

There was a blur of motion again, and Kid Flash was next to Starfire, holding up the straw with the orange cap. "Tell ya what, babe, how about after my little test, we go out and I'll tell ya aaaalll about it." Glares hit him from all directions, even from the other kids here for the try-outs. "Hey, I'm just kidding....mostly."

Robin, still giving the youthful speedster a glare that would make even his mentor pause, held out the straws. "Later, Starfire, I promise." "Let's just focus on this for now, okay?" "The rest of you, draw straws and let's get started."

"Siobhan, right?" Aqualad smiled at her, the expression making him even more handsome. "Robin told you my name, but I prefer to make personal introductions too." "I'm Aqualad, well, up here I am, anyway." His smile became more encouraging, "Don't worry, we've beena t this long enough we're used to the wierd names and outfits...we all DO have other names, we just tend not to use them as much."

She was incredibly nervous, even though his telepathy worked best on marine life, it was strong enough on other forms of life to detect some basic things. "Just take it easy, this won't be so bad." "Just a little exercise to see what you can do." "Cyborg gave each course a couple different sequences to test different kinds of powes, just tell me what you do and I'll get it set for you." He paused, then gallantly offered, "If you'd like, I could run through it first, show you what I mean."

_______________________

Cyborg clapped the brown haired boy on the shoulder, "Name's Cyborg, man, what's yours?" He was leading the boy over toward the section of the island his course was on.

The shorter youth grinned a bit nervously. "Grant Emer...I mean, uh...Damage."

"Cool name." Cyborg held his right forearm in front of him, part of it sliding away to reveal a set of controls. "Now, I set up these courses, even tested 'em out myself." "They're tough, an' there's some stuff that could sting, but nothin' that'll actually hurt you." "I got to set it for what you can do though, so...what do you do?"

Damage paused a moment, wondering how much he should say. If he told the hero the truth...he'd probably throw him out right there. He'd jsut have to try and keep control until this was over. He could do it...he could do it. "Um, I'm super strong, durable, fast, and have super human reflexes too."

Cyborg quirked his one eyebrow. "Nice, any power, you don't got?" He laughed, hoping to set Damage at east. "All right, man, I'll set you up with the super strength course and see what you do with it."

Damage nodded, pulling down the fingerless gloves he wore. "Okay, Grant, just keep it together...don't lose it."

Beast Boy looked over nervously at the older girl walking next to him. Wow...she was gorgeous. And the way she peeled out of that suit...he thought he was going to die. Now, if he could just get through this without embarrassing himself too badly.

"So, uh, what's your name?" "I'm Boy Beast...uh, I mean, Eastb oyb." "I mean....grrr..." He shifted for a moment into a large green ram, smacked his head off a boulder and shifted back. "Better, Ah, I'm Beast Boy." He smiled, "And before you say how wierd a name it is, it's actually better than my real name."

He frowned a bit, one of his larger canines poking over his lip. he hated just walking anywhere. It took forever! "Uhh...I know this sound bad, but...I could get us there faster, if you'd like." "What do you say, want a ride?" He shifted again into the stallion, and tossed his mane, giving her a wink.

“Oh yeah?” she said out of the side of her mouth, slightly raising an eyebrow. She repressed the urge to spit to the side. “You haven’t heard my real name yet. It’s Oya. Oya Codrington.” She prepared for the jokes following her name, like they always came. Best to nip this one in the bud - “Oya was the goddess of fire in Yourban myth - a real warrioress. I was named after her in anticipation that I’d be powerful of some sort. I go by ‘Flame Sniper’, usually.”

She stretched, and rolled her shoulders back. She had the smoothness of a cat, and obviously spent either a lot of time at the gym or was a dancer of some sort. “So what is your real name? Or is that all a part of the secret identity thing?” She paced around the large green stallion, kneeling at his hooves. As sure as anything, she picked up a hoof and inspected it, giving it a few taps with her knuckles. Dropping it, she felt his legs, and began to measure him. Huh. 14 hands. Not bad….not bad at all.

Stepping back, she gave him a curt nod. “Grew up around horses. I just had to give you the once over….Beg yer pardon if I groped a bit too much.” She smirked and pulled her hair tighter. “You remind me a bit of a quarter horse I used to have. Name was Helios. Best barrel racer this side of the Rio Grande, I tell ya…” she trailed off. Now, if that didn’t sound like she just fell off the hick train…she flushed ever so slightly, and pursed her lips. Pausing, she tried to collect herself. Before she knew it, she began to pet his muzzle, making sure to rub the firm neck and scratch behind the ears. “Why not?” Before she knew it, she’d mounted the green horse, shifting her weight a little. It’d been so long since she’d been on a horse…but it was something you didn’t forget. “Lucky me, Ah just happen to be better at ridin’ bareback. I’m not too heavy for you?”

Beast Boy's ears wet straight up when she began to feel his legs. He felt dirty somehow...mostly becase he kind of liked the attention. Then she began to pet him, and his eyes got large and realxed. Ooohhhh....she knew just where to scratch. He closed his eyes and leaned into her a bit, before he jerked back, a blush actually showing up on his hide.

He shook his head as she mounted and asked about weight. Wishing, not for the first or last time, that he could talk in his animal forms. Once it felt like she had a hold, he began to canter forward, then he trotted, then he began to outright gallop. The advatage of his powers were that he was a little bit better than the animals he became. He was a little stronger, tougher, and faster than any normal horse and they were soon over to the obstacle course.

He slowed to a stop, letting her slide off his back. Then he shifted back to normal. "Man, that was nice...I haven't had a ride that good in a long time." He realized what he had said a moment later, blushing brightly. "I mean, uh, that, it's nice to have someone who knows what they're doing." "You should see what Cy does to my mane." He laughed nervously.

He walked over tot he control panel of the course. "By the way, I think your name's pretty cool...it's a lot better than mine." He grimaced, "It's Garfield...Garfield Logan." "Unlike some of the others, I don't have a secret identity, so I don't mind telling you." "Just don't ask Robin...take my word for it." "So...ready to try this thing out?"

Cyborg stared at his readouts, amazed. "Damn..." The kid had started out super human, yeah, but not by much. Now though, his strength and toughness were at Cyborg's level, but he was faster both on speed and reaction time. And all of them were increasing.

Damage smashed a turret that had been firing on him, dodging a missile while gunfire harmlessly pattered off of him. His hands were enveloped in blue white energy. His face was intense. So far, so good. He had it all under control.

Cybog set anotehr sensor on the youth, frowning slightly. "Huh...if this is right...there's a fusion reaction going on inside him...and it's moving faster too."

Silver Knight

A young man walked down the street toward the "T" tower. This large shadowy figure appeared under the light revealing himself to the rest of the heroes. His 6'6" body was covered by a large silver trench coat and a black handle of a giagantic sword attached to his back. His hair was a dark silver and tanned face was somewhat handsome except for the jagged scar across the left side of his face.

He had heard a lot about the Teen Titans and new that he could do some good for them. He noticed that there were many possible Titans trying out today, but he knew that he was going to make it. Finally he spotted the man he was looking for, Robin. "I've come to tryout for you, Robin of the Titans. I am Silver Knight. I have come a long way to meet you." Silver bows before Robin. Chuckling can be heard in the background by some of the other heroes, but Silver continues to bow before Robin.

Oya

“Relax, Gar. Need a drink or sumthin’?” She raised an eyebrow as she spoke again, dusting off the seat of her jeans. Not like she couldn’t go for one herself. “Besides, this sort of thing is supposed to be fun, right? A regular walk in the park.” She shifted her weight to one side, swinging her hips. “And I’ll remember that.”

She pulled her hair down from the bun and shook it out, before twisting it back up. “So, do you need some sort of run-down on my powers, or do you want it to be a surprise?” Now it was her time to wink - and that she did, a smile curving her full lips.

Beast Boy watched her hair fall back down as she shook out, trying not to gawk. Man...everything she did was just...man! He did smile though, "A drink might be good, at that...but right now...I'm not much with machines at my best."

Her wink brought a wide smile to his face, and he barely blushed. "Well, normally we'd ask for a run down, so we knew what to throw at you and not actually hurt you." "But I do like surprises...but where are my manners?" He gestures toward the course, "The lady should choose, after all." "I'm not much of a gentleman, but I should at least try."

Robin turned to the tall youth, eyes curious behidn the lenses of his mask. He placed a fist to an open palm and bowed back. The knight seemed satisfied with that and straightened. "Welcome to Titans Tower, Silver Knight." Since there was one straw left, and it was his Robin grinned. "I'm not sure why you're here, but I hope it's for the team try-outs." "Either way, follow me and we can talk."

Interesting....he'd never heard of this guy...but he looked like he had experience. What ahd brought him here? And to meet him?

“As my name suggests, fire’s my game.” She snapped her fingers, and from the dull snap a fire sparked to life, undulating and sensuous. “Been like this since th’ dawn of time. Enhanced agility, I can fly, and I’ve done several years of Shaolin Kung-fu, in addition to 5 years of tap.”

She smirked as she flicked some hair from her eyes, and waved her hand, as if she was trying to put out a match. “A course is a course in my opinion - it’s my job to be good at whatever you throw at me. So I’ll let you be the one to decide. All that ‘ladies first’ crap is a buncha bullshit.” All was said with a good-natured smile, and she rolled her shoulders back again, looking more as if she was about to step out on the dance floor rather than an obstacle course.

“So tell me, Gar, if I manage to get into yer little group, do I have to wear spandex? It ain’t the most flattering on a girl of my sort of build.”

Silver Knight

Silver raises himself to stand infront of Robin and smiles slightly. He walks with Robin and explains his reason for wanting to join. "Well, I am here because my mentor, The Black Knight, sent me here to gain more training and also to gain comrades. The Black Knight fought with the Avengers and decided to train me in his stead. I am here to help end evil where it may appear."

Silver Knight reaches behind him and takes ahold of his sword. He backs up so not to harm Robin and unsheathes his sword. The sword is ebony black and a little taller than it's 6'6" weilder. This sword is about a foot thick and Silver Knight is moving it around like it's nothing. "This sword is very special. Nothing can break it because it is made of a special metal. It has many magical powers that not even I can fully understand yet. It was gift from my mentor." Silver smiles as he sheathes his sword and walks with Robin once more.

Beast Boy watched the flame, primal instincts both scared and fascinated by it. Much as he was feeling about Oya, really. "Well...I, uh, I hope you don't mind my saying it but....I think...uh, that...you'd look pretty good in spandex." "You sure do in that riding suit." He was blushing, not looking at her as he typed in the "blaster" course.

"But it's not mandatory, no." "I mean, Robin's outfit is more like armor, and Cyborg looks like a bug metal suit." "I got used to this stuff...I was partly raised by suerheroes, so that's why I wear it." "Wear whatever you feel comfortable in, 'cause when the Hive is after you, you really don't want to be wearing something that chafes."

Robin kept walking until they got to the course. "The Black Knight...I've heard of him." "That means the sword is...interesting." "I don't know that the Teen Titans are what you're looking for, but if he's trained you, you'd be an asset to the team."

He had heard of the Black Knight...the hero and the villain, and the villain's wicked magic sword. This guy needed to be watched. "If you feel up to it, why don't you run through the course?" 'Show me just what your training has amounted to?"

“Awwww. No black leather bondage suits, then,” she said, laughing softly. “I just wear spandex whenever I go to the gym or have dance - and it’s not exactly one of my favorite fabrics, mmhmm.” She inched closer behind him, trying to take a look at what he was typing in. “Besides, I always thought it was sorta sexist. To each his own, Ah suppose.” She grinned and gently raked her nails down the nape of his neck. “Th’ ridin’ suit keeps me from looking like street pizza if I have the misfortune of wiping out on the bike. Even so, it ain’t all that much protection. I need to get another one of stronger stuff. If Ah was going over 90 and fell off wearing that suit….well, let’s say they’d be lucky to find some hair. Get me?”

“Raised by superheroes, huh?” she drawled as she paced around to face him. “Lucky you. I was raised by the Occult,” she said with a smirk, blowing a stray hair away from her eyes. “Maman was born into a long line of Voudou priestesses. Hence the name. I was born in Louisiana, but we hauled it to Texas before I could walk. Explains a lot, don’t it?”

Raven sighed inwardly.

Why her?

She took another glance at the young man she was partnered up with. Looked like a complete ass….He was clad in bright green [ like, neon green - a mutant highlighter ], and seemed to be striking a pose whenever the opportunity presented itself.

“So….” She started, trying to force some sort of…caring into her voice. Yes, she wanted to be doing this, this was much better than meditating. No, really.

“I am the Flashlight! I shine on evil and expose it to the brilliance of justice!”

She sighed, and shook her head. Please tell her that he just did not say that. “So….what…do you do…?” She was cut off by a bright light shining in her eyes. With a small hiss, she shaded her eyes from the onslaught. Unfortunately, she could still hear, and her ears were clogged with the sound of his obnoxious laughter.

“Ha HA! I do that! By carrying power…GENERATORS!” He continued to laugh…until the light faltered. “Oh, come on!” he frowned, shaking the generators attached to a golden belt about his hips. After a few more moments of shaking, the light sprang to life again, accompanied by his insane laughter.

By now, Raven had trailed ahead and punched in the hardest obstacle course that they could offer.

The image of her in black leather made him key in the wrong sequence. He shook the image out of his head, though he tensed as he felt her drawing closer. "Well, if you join, we could make you a suit of the same stuff I wear...a bike suit I mean, this stuff'll stop most gunfire." "I bet that'd...." His voice trailed off as she raked her nails down the nape of his neck, his body stiffening (in more ways than one). His ears shot straight up, then relaxed, drooping as he seemed to almost melt at her touch. He tried to say something but all that came out was an honest-to-God purr, like a housecat but on a bigger scale.

"I guess so," he managed to get out, blushing fruiously as she eyed him with that smirk on her face. "I know some about that kind of thing from talking to Raven...when I can talk to Raven and not have her throw me out a window." He grinned at her mention of Texas, a lot of pride in the very name. "Nice place, I was there a few years ago..doing a little acting part...just not in the way you'd expect." 'They were shooting a Lone Ranger re-make and they wanted a really good horse for Silver." He sighed, not sure why he was telling her such an emasculating story about himself. "I was cheaper than a stunt horse and trainer, so with a little digital color editing, voila!"

"Speaking of voila, the course is ready when you are." "I threw bits o fhte different programs together, I think it'll be interesting." He smirked back at her, feeling a bit bolder. "Hmmm...it could be pretty tough and you're a rookie...wanna make a bet you don't clear it in two minutes?"

“Them’s fightin’ words, Gar. I bet I can make it with time to spare,” she said with a smirk. Really, she had no idea what this course was going to throw at her….and she shivered inwardly. No, girl! Can’t think like that! You’re Oya Codrington, and this is going to be a walk in the park! “Get it together, girlfriend,” she whispered softly before she clapped her hands together. Kneeling, she dusted her palms off of her jeans, and straightening up, grinned. “Take this.” She tossed him a small red cell phone, retrieved from the pocket of her jeans.

“And ifin’ Ah win, you owe me a drink…” she knelt, stretching her legs out. “Margaritas and nachos…and if they’re cheap, I’ll take it outta yer hide.” She straightened up again, and popped her back. She ruffled his hair, and took her position. At a loud beep, she took off. Speed wasn’t her problem…nor was agility. She was nimbly making her way through the course, bending and twisting in a way that didn’t seem natural. And then, of course, there were those nice kung-fu moves she used on dummies that would pop up from nowhere. On occasion, there would be the great rush of fire, and the oblivion of a gun turret. And, above it all, would be her whooping war-cry, something similar to the traditional “Yee-haw”, and the war cry of a Cherokee.

The phone in Gar’s hand began to ring.

She rolled her eyes as the “Flashlight” shrieked, his rear burned by a laser.

Leaning against the control panel, she didn’t bother to check his reading. Half-way through he’d be out of the game. Glancing over to Beast Boy, she looked past him to the blur of flame making it’s way through the course. Not bad. Of course she’d be stuck with the idiot…

Another scream caused her to close her eyes. Meditation could help….

“Azarath, Metrion…”

And if they had something to say about it later, she could honestly say in her defense that it was obvious that he wasn’t going to make it. Not with flashlights strapped to his body.

"....Wow..." Speed, power, control..she really knew what she was doing. Not to mention she looked great doing it. There was something aobut it though that made him feel...uneasy. Oya, in some ways, reminded him of...of her. His ears drooped a bit, and he sighed, "Terra..."

Then the phone rang, jumping a bit on his hand. "Wha?" He eyes it nervously. Curiosity got the better of him though, as he found himself flipping it open. Who was it? Did she have a boyfriend? Best to find out now...

"Hello?" "Uh, I know you're calling for Oya, but she's a little," there was a small explosion as a column of flame burst up and a tremendous "yee haw" echoed off the rocky shore, "busy right now." "I can tell her you've called though..."

“Oya?! Where is de girl?!” boomed a very Caribbean voice on the line. “Tell her dat it’s her Maman callin’! Wait…wait….She’s in de middle of someting important?! Ah de stars dunn lie! I saw it in de cards, I did! Well, I won’t keep her from it! Tell dat girl to call her Maman afterwards, and little green boi, take care of my Oya! She’s ‘bout de only ting I got left in da world, dontcha know! ‘Revoir!”

And there was a click.

As soon as the woman hung up, there came a thud. The girl landed nimbly at his feet, her deep gold hair freed by the numerous explosions. As she glanced up at him, she winked, soot covering patches of her face and arms. Standing up, she patted out the edge of her still flaming shirt. “Ooohhh wee! Now that was sum fun!” She threw an arm about his neck, pulling him close in a chokehold. From her skin emanated the smell of something…exotic and mysterious, mixed with sweat and smoke. Ruffling his hair, she let him go. “Now, check that time and tell me that Ah didn’t clear it in less time lak I said I would!”
_______________________________________________

20 minutes and…counting.

This was ridiculous. Maybe she should get up and see what had happened to him….Slowly opening her eyes, she unfolded her legs and stood up, and strode over to the control panel. Figures - he was stuck halfway through the course.

Surrounding herself with a black energy, she lifted into the air, light as a feather.

That smell that clung to her...there was something about it that just tickled his nose. It smelled so...compelling, so mysterious. Though he wasn't contemplating that uch, torn between struggling out of her headlock and loving being that close to the sensual girl. "Ah, hey!" He nerly dropped the phone as she roughly spun him free. He glared at her, then turned his head into a giraffe's and stuck out his long tongue at her.

Shifting to normal, he checked the time. Wow...she'd done it in a minute and a half...that was almost as good as HIS time. "Whoa..not bad..." His awe was evident in his voice, "I mean, not bad for a rookie." "I'm a guy of my word though, margeritas and nachos it is, and the best money can buy." "If you're willing to share that is, I love nachos!"

Then he remembered and handed her back her phone, "Oh, umm, your mom called." "I'm lucky I know some mystics, or she might've really freaked me out."

“All right!” She clapped her hands, fire exploding from her palms like a small flower. “It’s been FAR too long since I had a decent meal! Being a broke college student is th’ pits! Oh, man, it’s been t’ long since I’ve been hammered!” She nearly squealed with excitement. The thing that really sucked was that she just really hadn’t had the cash to really either eat out OR get some decent liquor. She had been bumming off of her friends for a while…but they didn’t mind.

“Tell ya whut - why don’t we make this a group thing? One of those big-shebangs where I can meet you guys and the other new recruits? We’re talking MAJOR box car social-” she punctuated her words with a sweeping hand gesture, pulling him close to her with her free arm. Gripping him in a loose headlock again, she looked down at him and winked, tossing some hair from her eyes. “It’ll be great! Ya like salsa dancing, Gar?” Spinning him around in a furious twirl, she let him go.

Stretching, spurts of flame came from her fingers, dancing about her before blinking out of existence. “And ifein ya got scarit, it served ya right! Answering somebody else’s phone! Shame on you, Gar!” She shook a finger at him playfully. “If ya turned into a dog, Ah’d right pop you with a newspaper! Must’ve been Maman - gimme a minute while I call her back.” Plucking her phone from the young man’s hand, she redialed the last number. Turning so her back was to him, she began to speak, French flowing from her tongue as easy as water. As she twisted and turned in the conversation, she’d look over her shoulder to give Beast Boy a grin.

Raven dropped the Flashlight on the ground, and sighed. It seemed like everyone else had been getting along so well…and then there was this ass. With a sigh, she summoned over a bucket of water and dumped it on his face.

However…

When the water hit the generators, there was the sickening sound of electricity and the stench of burnt flesh. The Flashlight jumped back to reality, shrieking as the shock ran through him. Raven merely nudged him with her foot. “Get up. The course is over.”

“Did….did I….”

She shook her head before he could finish. Might as well nip this in the bud now. His face faltered, but he sprang to his feet, and dusted himself off as if nothing happened. “I…I see. The Flashlight…is not capable of being a Titan. But one day! One day I shall!” He drew his arm across his face, and faltered slightly when he realized he didn’t have a cape.

Raven sighed.

Siobhan glanced curiously at the sights that went on around her. First she had been expected to draw a straw, then had been paired up with the Teen Titan who had burst out of the bay. The action had startled her almost as badly as the flying woman's appearance, but Siobhan was fast learning to expect the unexpected when around these people.

She turned slightly, to take in the sight of the dark haired teen approaching her with his hand outstetched, a hesitant smile on his boyish face.

"Siobhan, right?"

A slight nod affirmed his gentle probing. His face split almost immediately into a smile as she reached forward to accept his hand, finding his grip to be as sure and strong as her own.

"I'm Aqualad, well, up here I am, anyway."

He continued to speak, oblivious to the fact that Siobhan was taking his measure, albeit a little less than calmly.

"Just take it easy, this won't be so bad. Just a little exercise to see what you can do. Cyborg gave each course a couple different sequences to test different kinds of powes, just tell me what you do and I'll get it set for you." He paused, then gallantly offered, "If you'd like, I could run through it first, show you what I mean."

Siobhan paused for a moment to take all this new information in, still choosing to maintain the silence she had kept up until this point. Raven curls danced in the slight bay breeze as she cocked her head slightly, considering the Titan's offer.

When she spoke finally, her voice was a low and well toned tenor. She met his gaze squarely, with an intensity that spoke of her confidence.

"My name is Siobhan, aye. Though I'd wager ye'll be callin me by another name if'n yer lookin ta add me ta yer ranks."

She shrugged in indifference to her own question, the rise and fall of her shoulders adding a soft bounce of movement to her slender frame.

"Since I were discovered, I'd gone by the name o' Shockwave. If'n its not trademarked by some other, already established hero out there somewhere, I'd be obliged ta keep it."

Not really waiting for an answer, Siobhan walked past Aqualad without so much as a glance. Her eyes already filled with the distant past of her own memory. She paced nervously as she slowly began to recount all the information she knew had to be given to insure a suitable "test" of her abilities could be done.

"Sigh....its kinda like this. I've been told by several scientests, that I control an unusual form o' telekinesis. I can stop motion, pretty much."

Siobhan turned to level her piercing gaze back on Aqualad, making sure she had his attention.

"But all that motion....that kinetic energy....where does it go?"

Siobhan searched her pockets for something harmless, something that couldn't possibly hurt anyone standing around if her powers were demonstrated. Her long fingers closed silently upon the familiar shape of a coin. This shouldn't tire her out too much.....

Jerking her hand from her jeans pocket, with a flick of a thumb the quarter was sent skyward, tumbling in its upward flight.

Frowning slightly, she waited for the coin's descent. Watching its tumbling continue past the apex of its climb, to the return plummet towards the ground.

The coin froze.

"Not only is there the motion of up and down, but there's also the energy created by the coin's spinnin. I stopped em both."

A sour grimace washed across her face as another wave of acid assaulted her in response to the use of her powers. It was by no means threatening, however, so she ignored it once more.

"The more that the coin is held here, the more kinetic energy that it builds, trying to break free. So I ask once more, where does that energy go?"

Without waiting for the answer that she knew had to be forthcoming, the dark haired mutant simply lifted a finger to point at the suspended quarter.

The quarter shot away from them, landing only a few short feet away. Calmly, the dark haired woman strode over to its resting place before scooping it back up into her pocket.

"Answer. I hold the energy inside me. I can only do this on things that I can see, so don't go startin ta think I can stop bullets or nothin, cause I can't."

She spoke bluntly then, as she turned to look back at Aqualad.

"The more kinetic energy absorbed, the bigger the....ummm....shockwave. Hence the name. I can't do anythin fancy with this power, other than choose how much force leaves my body and how fast. I don't necessarily need ta blow shit up every time, if'n yer understandin what I'm meanin. That and the stop motion's bout all I can do."

Silver Knight

"If you feel up to it, why don't you run through the course?" 'Show me just what your training has amounted to?"

Silver Knight bowed, "Actually, I believe the Teen Titans is what I'm looking for. I've checked up on the team and I think me joining the top notch Teen Superheroes is a good idea. I would be honored to show you my skills." Silver got up and walked toward the training course.

He stepped into the first part and a large boulder rolled down toward him. Silver quickly pulled out his sword and swung at the boulder, slicing it in half. He continued through the course and was taken a little surprise by am onslaught of lazers being fired at him. Silver was hit be the first couple and then began to reflect the rest with his sword hitting the targets. Buzzsaw blades were fired at him and were deflected into the ground by a flick of his sword. Reaching the final part of the test, Silver Knight was ambushed by two walls closing in on him. He stuck his sword in the ground and spread his arms out to try and stop the closing walls. After a minute or two of fighting the walls, Silver begn to push them apart giving him some room to manevuer. With only a couple seconds to spare he grabbed his sword and leaped toward the finish line as the two walls smashed together.

Silver Knight walked back over to Robin and bowed. "I'm.....sorry that I didn't...do as well as I thought....but I just need some more training....is all." Silver spoke softly as he tried to catch his breath. "Need me to do anything else, Robin of the Titans?"
