Personally, I think that whether or not either of you had an orgasm is beside the point... So long as your penis was inside her vagina, you've had sex... Which means that you're no longer a virgin.

Lady G, I know simplistically this is true...although I think some people might add 'vaginal' to the intercourse (of course that's being stereotypically hetro though isn't it?). My first gut reaction was even to agree with you, but then I remembered how urked I get when I hear people talk about how sexually active they've been (basically everything but vaginal intercourse) and yet describe themselves as still virgins. Maybe I'm confusing sexual inexperience with virginity....but is it really that black and white?

I really hate the term "virgin," particularly when it's applied to guys. At any rate, it seems that things aren't so simple anymore, what with technical virgins, born-again virgins, etc. . . The way I see it, you're either experienced or inexperienced. If you've engaged in any type of sexual behavior, whether you've had PIV intercourse or not, you have SOME sexual experience. Intercourse is just one of many modes of sexual expression.

I assume, then, that the gold standard for virginity is still PIV intercourse? But what about same-sex relationships? How does it work then? Is a woman who's had extensive sexual experiences with other women (including penetration with a dildo or other object) but not with men still considered a virgin? Along those lines, is a woman who's had her hymen broken--either naturally or surgically--no longer a virgin, even though she's never had intercourse? Is a guy whose first sexual experience involves doing anal on another guy still a virgin because he's not had his penis inside a vagina? For what it's worth, he now has some sexual experience. . .

I'm kind of wandering off topic, I suppose, but I'm really curious about this.

I'm inclined to agree with phoenix1224--if you had penetration, then you're not a virgin, regardless of whether or not you had an orgasm.

For what it's worth, a woman who's had a penis in her vagina is no longer considered a virgin even if she does not orgasm. I'd apply the same rule for guys.
