I just purchased a new HP laptop but there is something wrong with the sound. All I get is this static ad hissing sound. Has anyone dealt with this before? Major kudos if you can help me.

If it's new, it should be under warranty. It could be hardware (damaged speaker perhaps) or it might be a wrong audio driver installed. No way to diagnose your problem from here, but I suggest you take it back to where you purchased it and have them check it out or trade it for a new one.

I tried contacting the store...turns out they are out of this model of laptop so i cannot do an exchange. Lost my receipt too so no refund either...I was wondering how much it would be to fix the internal speakers.

Have to agree with Privates. It's likely to be either a hardware failure or a driver issue. Matter of interest what happens when you plug in a set of headphones?

Find the HP website and look for tech support. If the thing is new and was legitimately purchased then it's under warranty. They ought to be able to tell you how to get service for the product.
I honestly can't fathom a store telling you that you're SOL because they're out of what you bought even if it's defective unless it's some sort of reseller (Big Lots, etc.)

Good luck

How did you pay for it? Any normal retailer would have the ability to get you a copy of the receipt. Also, if you used a credit card, call them for a copy.

If it's a recent purchase you have rights, also it's new so somehow I can't believe no same laptop exists. What store was it?

Contact HP

Have you registered your laptop with HP? Go online, register your laptop and based on that info HP should be able to direct you to one of their warranty dealers or you may have to ship it to HP. The serial number will give them all the info that they need to help you.

Never pay with cash, always use a credit card. Many offer extended warranties. Threaten the store, tell them you post a very negative post on their website about their crappy service. tell them you'll stand outside with a sign about their worthless service.

I also agree about contacting HP with your complaint.
