Teachers

musical competition... instrumental teachers....nice :D

MMMMmmmm my last History teacher...persuaded me to take it at A Level.... loved it...he was so enthusiastic about History.... not exactly a cool guy...but such a wonderful teacher i couldn't describe....

A teacher in high school is at the top of my list.

He taught US History, Sociology, Psychology, and Government. Somehow I managed to have him as my teacher for all of the above.

He gave me back my thirst for knowledge, and he nurtured it. He refused to use text books, and instead gave us reading assignments in books we otherwise never would have touched. He honestly cared whether or not we learned something in his class, he'd stop everything to explain a point we didn't quite get. He tutored students on the weekends and after school.

He'd ask us our opinons in essay questions, and grade us on how well we expressed/backed up our views. He wasn't interested in having us spit out memorized information, but in making us think.

He was an educator, and he took his job seriously. His classes were the only ones I never cut, and the only ones that I got A's in because I wanted to instead of because I was good at taking tests.

I still send him letters now and then, and visit him when I'm in town. He's still influencing students in very positive ways.

An Enlgish/Drama teacher in high school. Way too intense. Expected way too much of his poor, untalented casts. But gave me a sense of professionalism and preparation that I've carried through my career.

Yeah, we knew. Don't worry about it :D

Its the kind of thing i spot, i think....

As long as we're telling stories about teachers....

I always hated school, I always felt stupid because I was always bored and couldn't concentrate and my science teacher, Mr U. caught on to this pretty quick, he made learning fun and totally changed my attitude about school, he consequently, became a tutor to me as well in all of my other subjects and helped me catch up and graduate. I still miss him, I haven't seen him in about 10 years, but when I graduated, he had become principal of the middle school. I did get to go back and thank him for all that he did.

I would love to hear stories of those educators who changed your life, or helped influence an important decision in some way. I have many tales to tell. But, I'd like to read yours as well.

i'm a teacher and i think it's b/c of all the positive teachers i had..i grew up in a family where no one had time for the baby of the family..if it hadn't been for those few teachers that took the extra time to nourish me..who knows where i would have ended up...my third grade teacher in particular was awesome..she was writing a children's book while i was in her class..and it was just so fun to see all the steps in that process....plus she had a super huge beehive and was only about 4 feet tall...and being well on my way to my current height of 5'11...i was taller then her...i don't know what that was soo cool..it just was...

Wow, where to begin about the teachers i've had that have had an impact on my life? Three especially come to mind...

All these teachers i had my senior year in high school...i had two of them twice before as well. The first is my former religion teacher, Mr. P. He was a great guy, and he started at my high school my freshman year. He was my freshman homeroom and religion teacher, as well as my senior year Faith and Justice teacher. Mr. P was the man, hands down. He cared about his students, and cared about me. He was a guy i could talk to one on one, and know that he'd give me a straight, honest answer. He was the man, i love that guy to death. Always let me argue with him, as i was the only non catholic in a catholic school. It was a blast to be in his class

K.K. was next. She was fantastic...to make it short and sweet, she taught me to never settle for second, to always make the best of what i got, and i love her for it.

Ms. H was next...she took my love of english and let me run with it...she helped me get a poem i wrote published, and wrote me one hell of a college rec. i couldnt ask for more, she was just fantastic.

I had at least one in all levels:

Elementary, 7th grade History--I learned that there was more to learning than inside a classroom. And that once you had the key, you couldn't be stopped.

Secondary, Biology--I learned to "exact and observant."

Undergrad, Communications--how to recognize (if not write) "deathless prose."

Grad school--The blending of Art & Science: Gesamtkunstwerke.

I won't name names, they know who they are.
