This is premise is total suspension of disbelief. I imagine a private academy of kids of the rich and powerful. However these are their fuck up kids, and this school is basically just an out of the spotlight babysitters service. And the faculty are teachers with spotty records. I independently came up with something similar. In addition to what you said, the school is a boys' residential "preparatory academy" where rich and powerful parents can park their sons who are stupid, have had brushes with the law, or both. The students, in addition to having a high rate of repeating grades, leave a bit to be desired in terms of impulse control. The headmaster, whose chief concern is placating the parents, urges teachers not to raise a stink when students misbehave.

The viewpoint character is a teacher who is naturally submissive. The teacher has a crush on the most popular student but, for obvious reasons, takes pains not to let on at first. That student keeps pushing the envelope.
