Tattoo ideas?

I want one. I've always wanted one.
But I have no idea what sort of tattoo would fit me.
Any ideas and opinions would be greatly appreciated. :)

If you have nothing to add, sarcasm and sex talk is always welcomed. :D

A rune?

Something magickal?

Dragons?

One of the symbols from your dream?

forget about what would fit you. What would have as much meaning to you 20 years from now as it does today?

I really don't know. That's always been my concern.

I saw this ... on the Elfwood web site. Its drawn by Allison Decker.

It would make a nice tribal type design for someone. I would have this done but I really don't like needles & I'm ticklish.

The important thing is to get something that no one else has. Stay away from the flash and tribal stuff. You don't want to look like a follower.

Something unique to you is always best and makes for a much better conversation piece.

eep! That bat is kinda cute.

The dreamcatcher is lovely!

So many choices!

Thank you, all of you, for these ideas. :)

Isn't kiwiwolf usually good at this sort of thing?

What about a dragonfly - they're really pretty.........

Stay away from the tribal?
Hrm. That is so inherently me, though. I see your point, though.
I never thought it would be this difficult.
It's fun, nonetheless!

Okay, my theory on tattoos is that I love the way they look, but until and unless I *KNOW* that I will love it 20 years from now, I won't get one. Decoration's fantastic. But earrings, clothes, hell a new sofa...all that can be changed. Tattoos are for life (more or less). If you don't have something that you really desire to have on your body for the rest of your life, then don't get one.

Now, assuming that didn't change your mind at least go for temporary tattoos until you find one that looks good, is unique and suits your tastes.

Nothing wrong with anything tribal I don't think - especially considering who you are, raindancer... BUT you don't want to get something that is too common. You do want something that is fairly unique and fits who you are... and who you will be 20 years, 40 years, 100 years, 300 years from now. I would also suggest, for your first tattoo, something small.

Nora, you are echoing my concerns from the last 10 years! I'm restless. But, I will give lots of thought before I do anything.

Arc da Rat, I can't draw well enough. :p

Dilly- I was thinking of something fairly small. You're reading my mind, again.

I actually know how you feel, Raindancer. I actively crave a tattoo myself. Hell, living in Austin (which I swear has to be the tattoo capital of the universe) it's hard NOT to want one! lol

question time, k?

Would you want an animal?
Do you have a strong bond with your ethnic heritage?
Is there band you've remained loyal to?
Is there a place that you dream of?
Do you have an affinity for a particular element? (of the fire, air, earth, water variety...although personally I'd get the periodic table entry for nobellium, myself!)
Do you want something humorous?
Something 'romantic'?
Something that makes a powerful statement?

I recall what a friend once told me. The tattoo is for YOU! Please yourself. Something that has meaning to you.

I also suggested, above, that you get something small but didn't say why. Seems to me that something small is more likely to grow with you through the years... if that makes sense?

Oops...I so didn't go small with my first one. But it does say tons about who I am...I think that is important. Get something that has meaning to you. Not just the flavor of the moment. Something that touches your soul. If anything tribal touches your soul then you should go with that. A good tat artist will create one too for you if you ask and provide ideas. If you need any help let me know. I have lots of bookmarks on tribal links hun.

OMG that would be COOL! There's a chick who works at the North Loop Forbidden Fruit who I swear is the first time I ever thought multiple piercings were sexy. *drool* She was just cute in general, though. ;)

Bear's huge ear-thingies give me the willies, though!

Ooooh I know who you are talking about! She was working there last time I went in. And yes she is cute. I saw a girl at Book Woman with a ton of tattoo's and piercings. She had a tattoo that I want.. It was a tribal wolf. Hehe, my gf (Jenj from here) wants me to take her to that store so we can get some stuff, like a leather skirt for me hehe. And well... she wants to go to the other two stores too. I want a nipple piercing but am too damn chicken. She says she is taking me to get one while she's here. We shall see! lol. And she wants to get her eyebrow pierced.

Ooooh I hate Bear's big ear thingies... icky... they are so wierd to look at. I couldn't hardly look at him lol.

Calling Kiwiwolf....

Go to the upper righthand corner of your screen and hit search, type in the user block, "Kiwiwolf". There's been a tattoo thread running for some time that might help you.
You also need to think about what you want your tattoo to say about you. Do you want it to display your personality? Family? Politics? Humor?

My tats are my Scottish clan crest, and a celtic wolf with a sword in it's mouth, a broken collar, and a broken crown at it's feet. It means, "A slave to no man nor king". It was taken from the Book of Kells, an ancient book of designs.

Kiwiwolf can probably tell you how to pick your design, and the inker that applies it.

*Happy hunting! :D
