Joe Paterno, was an outspoken Republican who delivered a nominating speech for George H.W. Bush at the 1988 Republican convention and had headlined GOP campaign events over the years. He took what he knew about Mr. Sandusky and Sandusky's victims, to the grave.

The Alumni were heavily invested in Republican matters.
A great deal of money involved, and many political networks.

The auditor general’s office plans to look at whether undue political influence underpinned a state grant once bound for the Second Mile. The office also is set to run a routine audit of Penn State, likely beginning in mid-August, Mr. DePasquale said.
