Dipping my toes into the forum waters here. I'm a longtime lurker on the forums, though I'm somewhat more active in the chatroom section of the site here. We've all had those private message experiences on here, a friendly hello, one or two messages back-and-forth, and then nothing else. I've been guilty of it myself at times - life gets in the way. Anyway, here's the pertinent info -

Who I am: early 30s trans female. Very private, low-key and respectful.

Who you are: age/race/gender/sexuality don't matter. What does matter, however, is you being both capable of and willing to hold a (not necessarily sexual) conversation on a semi-regular basis. I am in the US eastern time zone, and most of my free time is at night, a handful of days per week; ideally it would be nice to connect with someone who is similarly available for an occasional chat, either via the chat function on this site or some other chat means. PM conversations are fine, but I find that they tend to drag on rather slowly and tend to fade away, for me at least. No expectations here, no strings, just two adults having a friendly chat.

Welcome to the forums! They for sure can be very intimidating, sometimes cringe-inducing, and often littered with trolls if you go looking in the wrong places, but that really describes anywhere on the internet! I suggest staying far away from the General Board as that seems to be where most the trolls lurk, and said trolls aren't ones to let lgbt, kink, anything "not normal" slide by unscathed.

With the obligatory words of caution from my own experiences out of the way, I hope you find a comforting and friendly group of peers here, and hopefully friends! I'm pretty new as well and have had a good couple of ongoing correspondeces so far. It's typical to get random messages from creepers asking what you're wearing or whatever, but there will be genuine questions about your day asked of you from time to time (especially if you become active on the forums) as well.
