Talk about an insane system!! Look at the way people learn about sex.

Can you imagine if they taught medicine to doctors the same way that sex is taught to people? The schools would give a student-doctor a book and then run away from him/her and then allow sufficient time for the students to talk to his/her friends. Afterwards, the students would graduate and begin their experience experimenting on people until the docs got it right or were arrested for murder or mayhem.

I say that we open up real sex education schools with surrogates so that kids can learn what the real thing is all about. I'm just having a few problems with the other details such as the right age to begin the tutorial course and how to keep the students from "practicing" before they took the course.

I'm looking for suggestions as to what a good sex education course should entail. So, where are the replies, already??!!

DCL can help you there.

Sorry, gotta start the new year off right.

An experiment to see how long it takes Laurel to wake up, turn on the computer, get caught up on things, and edit that out.

Surrogates?

Just what did you have in mind? Maybe this would have been a great idea when I was a kid, but now that I have kids......

Funny how things change, isn't it?

Kidding aside, I'm struggling with how to teach this correctly. My daughter is eleven. Any suggestion?

Heh .... sorry I can not help but think of the mcDonalds commercial where the kid and his dad are walking together and the kid looks at a card in his hand and asks, " Dad, what is sex ? ". Then you see the dad and son in McDonalds and the dad is obvously explaining to him about the birdies and the bees, then the kid shows him the card and it asks if he is Sex : M or F ?

I LOVE that commercial !!!!!

Check the "banned books" thread. There are a couple of good children's books on that list that are good starting points for the discussion with your daughter.

There is also a very good (recent) thread about the dreaded "Talk" and how others have handled, (or mishandled,) sex education. (I don't remember the title of that one though.)

Most important point, IMHO, is to be honest and unembarassed about it.

Blue, you got a good idea here.

One area that I think needs to be focused on is responsibility.
Sex is fun, it's pleasurable, all that...contraception should be the watchword though.
