I did something kind of crazy today, and I probably have Roxanne to thank for it.

A few weeks ago I got offered an interview for my Dream Job. It was way out of my league, and obviously I missed the interview and everything...

But I got given the chance of a phone interview today, and I took it... and I got the job!

I can't tell you what it is, because it has a title and there's only one of me. It's a pretty big time promotion, though - work from home option, a fair bit of travelling and I arrange my own workload and timetable.

I'm going to be exhausted in an hour if I keep this up. I lose myself in something, then realise I'm feeling really, really happy. Then I remember why I'm feeling happy, and that makes me even happier... and more inclined to talk complete and utter bullshit, but who gives a fuck?

You know what, though, Og? I made a point of being my absolute self over the phone. I told stories, I got excited over stuff (especially talking about the driving element of the job) and I blew them over with a million and one ideas. There were times when I got so into something I started talking like a machine gun.

After the last few years in my employment history I needed to be myself and know that if I got the job, it was because they like who I am - not some cardboard cutout interview ace.

I think they know what they're letting themselves in for. Maybe not everything, but they probably have a fair idea

I know a couple of strong minded women in local jobs who call a spade a bloody fucking shovel and perform better than if they were diplomatic.

They don't take No for an answer from anyone and our community should be very grateful that we have them. I have to defend their attitude from time to time because some people expect deference and Yessir, Yesma'am every other word. I can defend them with the smooth words and diplomacy. If they defend themselves, they go for the balls or throat and attack. Sometimes a balance between their approach and mine is preferable but I'd rather defend someone for being what they were hired to be, than defend someone for pretending to be what they aren't.
