You found my little plot of corn, yes you did. Then, just as it was fully ripe, you proceeded to begin shucking the ears and eating my beautiful corn. But, I have thwarted your misadventures in my garden; I have harvested the lot and it is being preserved today. This time, I win.

I am only able to grow herbs. Rosemary and lemongrass and such. Only vegetable I managed for a while was jalapenos.

As long as the varmints don't raid the produce section, I'm reasonably safe.

I've grown herbs in a limited manner, but I love my vegetable garden, and canning what it produces.

Each year there is a new challenge with some aspect. The challenge is usually the deer, but this year it seems to be the smaller critters, and what to do with scads and scads of cukes and squash. There are only so many pickles one can eat.

I grew up with my parent's having a vegetable garden. Now they have an herb garden.

I think everybody got tired of all the effort and eventually they removed everything from their garden that was classified as "Deer Candy."

We had freezersful of soy beans nobody ate.

For the most part, I try to stick to growing what I know will be eaten. Jars and jars of pretty but stuff no one likes is silly. I think our parents did that because they grew up with less. I also tend to make soup and soup starters and can those.

Yup. My parents were children of the depression. We also had chickens. In suburban New Jersey.

I live in Florida now, and there's no hope here, ever, of an unmolested tomato.

Ha! Two yrs ago, my tomato plants were stupendous! They towered over my head and were beginning to bear like crazy; then the deer found them. There was one little doe in particular I threatened to invite to Christmas dinner. . .as the main course.

Deer and Japanese Beetles. *hiss*

i've planted my garden for two years in a row near the dog pen. seems to work keeping most varmits out. my corn is now in the beginning stages of ripening and may draw bears. they love the stuff. will see if it works.
raccoon is not bad fried.
bear, only good in stew, grilled VERY slow after a 2-3 day marinade. never fry it. turns out like shoe leather.

I'm pretty sure my corn bandit was a raccoon, making me miss my red tick hound all the more.

Two years ago, I had a wonderful looking crop of concord grapes ready to be picked. I went to bed the night before, ready to start harvesting in the cool of the morning. A family of raccoons had cleaned me out. There's a reason they wear masks.

Oh how maddening!! I love making jelly out of concords!

Cats and dogs are wonderful critters.

Sweet peas bring the bees.

Marigolds fend off the deer.

I've heard about marigolds, but not eggshells.

Cats and dogs, I have that part covered.

neem oil helps. they seem to not like the smell or taste. also repels some insects and will kill soft bodied harmful insects. spray when pollinators are back to their nests. it will kill them.
