Help! Ever get stuck, running out of different words to use for certain things? I mean, there's only so many times in one paragraph you can use the word "cock".

If was creative enough, I would put some suggestions here. However, since I'm not, I will refer you to the much wiser MathGirl's vocabulary thread, which has broadened my mind considerably. And will do the same for you for just three easy payments of $9.95....ooops, I got carried away again....

Whisper :rose:

well, it's a start anyway. i'm writing a longer story than the last two i've posted, and i'm getting sick of using the same words. Roget's been absolutely useless in this case! So i'll happily take the hint and look there. :)

You don't need synonyms, and you probably don't need euphemisms either -- a story that reads like a thesaurus for body parts is, IMHO, not very erotic and usually unintentionally humorous.

Think about how YOU think of the various body parts; do you change terms each time you encounter them, or doyou have pet names that you think first before censoring your thoughts to fit the conversation? What's at the top of the list of synonyms for YOU?

Each of your characters will have the same tendency -- each body part will have ONE, or maybe two, terms that that character uses almost exclusively. i.e She enjoys having her pussy stuffed with his cock; He enjoys ramming his dick into her cunt -- two cahracters, two terms and neither will use very many other terms throughout th story.

Each of your characters will have the same tendency -- each body part will have ONE,

That would be true; people will use the same slang terms, under the same circumstances, but that only applies to dialogue. When I write narrative, I try to avoid using the same words repeatedly, unless it is for a certain effect.

No matter the POV, the "Narrative voice" is as much a "character" as those who have dialogue.

Unless you want your story to read like the voice-over in a cartoon that gets carried away describing the action in increasingly lurid terms, it's best to stick with limited range of descriptive terms for your "narrator' as well.

I'm not saying that you should limit yourself in the range of desriptive terms for body parts, but each 'voice' or character in your story should remain internally consistent with the terms used. Changing terms for the same body part several times within a scene gives me the impression of an author trying too hard to avoid repetitiveness -- YMMV.

the "Narrative voice" is as much a "character" as those who have dialogue.

With two exceptions, I write in the first person, as if I am writing in a journal, describing a series of encounters with women and sometimes other men. There is dialogue, even conversation but the stories are mostly descriptions of what is happening, but the dialogue reflects the character of the narrator, myself. I refer to cocks and pussies and asses in the narration because it is my nature to do so but hardly ever any other terms. I use the same terms when I speak unless the story is of role-playing. The editing I do is mostly to eliminate excessive use of these few terms.

Dear V,
I've found the term "wiwi" to be useful, socially acceptable, and in good taste.
Helpfully,
MG
Ps. "Throbbing blue-veined schlong" is also a nice alternative.

Check out the 'How To' thread in the story section and Writer's Resources referenced in the Index to the story section.

whispersecret has a simple, if not as much fun as MG's, list
http://www.literotica.com:81/stories/showstory.php?id=39742

and there are some others as well, but one of my favorites, by Quint, deserves a special mention.

She focuses on the words NOT to use.

I think Weird Harold has some excellent points. The dangers of using these 'synonym' lists, except for humorous writing, should be apparent.

Suppose we were describing a runner, trying to stay in the race, though his foot is hurting a lot: "Sam pushed on, breathing heavily, feeling the pain shooting through his foot. It felt as if his tootsie was on fire. As he came down the path, his appendage hurt even more, and he could hardly bear it, the agony he sensed
in the shoed portion of his lower limb. His dogs were just killing him, and he wondering if the pain in his trotters would keep him from finishing the race."

I see Quint, at the url posted, has made a similar point.
