Hey all!

I'm a long-time fan of sword & sorcery stories (Robert E. Howard, Fritz Leiber, Jack Vance, etc.). I've started sharing stories lately, and one of the genres I'm dabbling in is fantasy stories with strong sexual themes.

I see a lot of stories here that are sex stories in a fantasy setting, but what I'm into are fantasy stories that feature sex. I hope that's a clear enough way to make the distinction.

Here are some examples from my writing:
https://www.literotica.com/s/wish-come-true-2
https://www.literotica.com/s/lair-of-the-emerald-enchantress
(I have a third story in this series that has been approved but not yet published)

Is this a common genre here? Is there some specific phrase people use to describe these kinds of stories? Is there a convenient way to find other people who are into this same kind of thing?

I'm pretty new here, so I appreciate patience and kindness while I'm figuring things out. Thank you!

I feel like a demon summoned from the relaxing depths of Hell...

Hi, and welcome! Yes, there's some love for sword & sorcery here. There's my very own Sword & Sorcery appreciation thread from a bit ago. There's my thread on a shared S&S setting, the City of Scum.

As for stories? I'll kick this off with a few of my own.

The Rivals, a series of five-and-one stories

Rulk the Rat and the Demon Dagger, a nasty story about nasty people

Bound to the Blade, about a demon-blade and the warrior who wields it

These are all according to my rather restrictive definition of S&S. Other writers extend it to include almost every genre of fantasy.

When I have a moment, I'll take a look at your stories!

This is amazing! I'm thrilled to know there are at least two of us! I'm going to look at those stories and that thread as soon as I have a few minutes.

If I'm being completely honest, I don't know if the stories I've written so far would qualify as proper S&S. My main inspiration was Saberhagen, and I've been suggesting a more magically-rich world than I expect from S&S.

I'm really excited to see what and who else is out there!

You don't really need any specific tags or anything for the audience you're seeking. That audience is just as big and in the same place as the flipside sex with fantasy readers, right there in the fantasy genre categories. ( Mostly Sci-Fi&Fantasy and NonHuman, but peripherally, Erotic Horror as well )

The readership expects a little sex with their fantasy, which is to be expected on an erotica site, but a good story is what keeps them coming back for more. That's true of the sex with fantasy readers as well.

I've actually promised myself that I'll finish another S&S story tonight, set in the City of Scum. Then there's two more about Sligh and Avilia from The Rivals that are about three quarters done, and at least two more for the City of Scum...

Ohhhhh, we are here and you are in good company. There are more than a few of us. I have one S&S story here myself, altho the sorcery is a little borderline....implied rather than actual, and only vaguely implied, but you might enjoy....

One Night in Xanadu, and another with Vampires (Midnight at the Villa Diodati), and a third which is straight out Monster Hunting....(A Troll is Haunting Tex's) and a short story (Blood Sacrifice) in Sex and Sorcery 4 on Amazon.

Shameless self-promotion of Course LOL, but welcome to the Club

One is use the SciFi and Fantasy genre to submit under

That gets you initial exposure.

The other is tags. When you submit the story make sure you include tags that match what you're writing and that helps readers find your stories when they search. Tags are probably the most important as that's long term, as opposed to being visible for a couple of days as a new story in the genre. Use key words like Sorcery - the sex on Lit is a given LOL - but depending on what you've written you could use tags like demons or whatever. Check out other S&S stories on Lit and see what other writers have used as tags.

Search the keywords for "Leinyere," OP. It was a shared fantasy setting a number of us have written stories for. They were all pretty good, and many were outstanding. Most of them featured sex as a byproduct of the adventure storytelling, not as an end in themselves. This includes the ones I wrote, It Pays To Be Nice Sometimes and Six Rings and a Pendant.

Remember, though, that this is LitEROTICA. Sex is less of a focus in fantasy/SF stories, but it's still going to be there if the writer values the Lit audience.

I’m a lifelong Jack Vance fan, both the sci-fi and fantasy sides. Sex wasn’t his strongest suit, but I enjoy his romances and his coolly competent heroes and occasional heroines (Wayness, for example).

I love sword and sorcery stories and often publish them during Geek Pride. The two series I started with are fan fiction, one is a fan fiction of a Japanese anime called The Gate where a modern GI gets sucked through a portal into a world of sorcery and fantasy creatures

The Gate - a series of three stories

The second series is another fan fiction that I am truly proud of, it's based on the sillyness and utter joy of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of novels and short stories. It's a series of eight (of course) stories

The Enchantress Octalogy

Fans of Sir Terry tell me that the stories capture his mirth and sprit quite well. I love that series so much, that I am currently working on prying it out of the discworld (should be fairly easy except for two stories in the series) and will publish it under the title Gods Save the Queen.

This isn't a hugely popular genre here, but just about every author gives it a shot at one time or another. A great way to get your name known is to enter events and contests. Your work will fit right in with the Geek Pride event (I'm going 1950s style sci-fi this year) and regular contests. I'm tempted to do a S&S story for Nude day.

Welcome aboard and come here to the Authors Hangout and gather tips and tricks

Just chiming in to say that I really enjoy reading S&S&S as well. I already knew a couple of the authors in this thread but it's great to have been able to expand my reading list.

I should probably try my hand at writing some at some point, too.

Give it a try! Once you begin, you realise that there really aren't any limits to what you can throw into your stories. It's extremely liberating.

Do it!!!

As someone who's just getting started, I can tell you it's gratifying to get your ideas down on a page and to share them. The hope is to find and connect with people who are into what you're into. Once I unlock that secret I'll share it with you, lol.

I'm slowly picking my way through the recommendations in this thread, and some of them are amazing! It's humbling and motivating at the same time.

As for my own work, I haven't been too focused on adhering to genre conventions. I think that would be fun to try. I'm scribbling down ideas and trying to figure out what would work in a Leiber-esque adventure tale.

My latest story is up (https://www.literotica.com/s/schemes-of-the-rat-cult) and I'm pretty proud of it. I don't know if it's technically S&S (might depend on who you ask) but I also brought in elements of a Raymond Chandler / Brett Halliday style mystery story.

Just write something you would want to read! I hope we can figure out how to find who else wants to read it.

I saw someone (THBGato, above) put together a list (although I sadly don't have access to view it). When I have some time I might try to figure out how to put together a curated list with descriptions of what kinds of style and content are out there. Like, if you want to read some Lovecraft-inspired lesbian erotica or maybe something like Burroughs's Pellucidar stories, but with BDSM, I think it would be dope if there was a way to find what you're looking for.

It's the most fun you can have writing erotica. There may be a problem with 'real world' stories after writing an enjoyable fantasy story. I find that many things that happen in fantasies (visions, mind reading, dragons) leak into my real world stories. My readers love it.

My flagship series Tiafell: The Femboy Elf is about an effeminant elf who chooses to leave the isolated village he grew up in only to find himself involved in a war against a demon that is a threat to all life in their world. It’s very much a fantasy story.

There is plenty of brutal action, but Tiafell gets laid a lot too. The sex scenes get crazy, but they live in a very different world lol.

I don’t have a huge following but my loyal readers love it and their numbers are steadily growing, I must be doing something right. Writing it has become my passion.
