So, desert rose, are you a convert now?

I'm heading to Captain D's for some salmon and tea. I use sweetener though.

It was fun meeting you two. I hope you can come back and we can have more time.

And more fire ants. This will be the 4th time this year I've killed them. Maybe the queen is escaping. When I'm done with this bag I think I'll give up. Like the war on terror it never ends.

I can still run over them with the lawnmower. They love that.

Yes I love it and can't find anything as good here. I can't make it as good as it tasted there either. I keep thinking there's some kind of secret in the "recipe" that you Southerners are keeping from me...

I was sorry that we didn't arrange to eat there with you. I LOVE salmon.

I think I'll be back. I think I was a good guest and Des' T approved of me. LOL I didn't make the bed, though. I offered and she said no. ;-) But I didn't leave wet towels on the floor or anything like that. And I liked Jack the dog, lots.

So when I come back, we'll make sure we have more time together. Like with Des, T and Jack the Dog, you and I seemed to hit it off well, too. ;-D

Oh and you keep doing your duty with the fire ants but leave a hill for Des to destroy... that was a real hightlight of the trip for me! LOL

fire ants

I love to piss 'em off!! ADR, we'll have to get you a recipe. I've never actually seen one though. Most people just kinda figure out how much sugar they like when they make their tea. I have an old friend who puts about 1 cup of sugar per gallon of tea if that gives you a starting point. Some people like it sweeter, some people like it less sweet.

WD, when she comes back, we'll be sure to come harrass you again. It was great to finally put a face to you.

Now, ADR, I'm plotting to get out to Vegas in the fall. Yesterday, I found out there's a conference there in Oct and I've asked my boss to send me.... I thought maybe you'd let me come bunk with you a few days after the meeting is over. You could come into town and stay with me if you wanted while I go to the meeting. You might even enjoy it. It's a wound care conference. I'm not getting my hopes up yet, but it would sure be cool to fly out there on the hospital's dime.

I'm gonna run now. I have a spa appointment for the afternoon. Finally using my Christmas/birthday gift from T.:D

I think atmosphere has a lot to do with how good something tastes. And the atomosphere with all of you was... just wonderful. I had THE best time!

Beautiful Noor called me last night and she was talking about saffron sugar. She suggested trying it in my tea. Have you guys heard of that stuff? I'm going to try and find some of it. It sounds just wonderful. She said it's like a sugar cube, except shaped like a triangle and has cardimumumum (LOL I don't know how to spell that) in it.

Hell if it's a wound care conference, I want to go to that too!!! And of course, you can come stay with me. I'd love to host you. We'd have so much fun. My God, you and I could burn the town down. Or at least try.

How was the spa? I would love to do that. You know I took that header in the front yard before I took my trip? My right arm still isn't okay and it's been like 3 weeks or something. I think I'll clean out the hot tub this weekend and try a good ol' soaking in there. My day at the spa...

Ha!
;-)

If I'm lookin' to score points, he's not my first - or 87th - choice. LOL

Okay so, how do you brew your tea at home?

we have an iced tea maker (although I love sun tea)... we take about 20 bags of Sleepytime tea (it's spearmint and chamomille) and brew it that way.. adding ice and sugar/splenda

I miss really good sweet tea, although the wawa down the street sells some..

*mumbles about atkins*

I drink the bottled white tea usually. Diet lipton with raspberry. If I had a big jar I'd just throw it outside for a few hours and let the sun cook it.

I make sun tea too but does yours get this scum on the top? Mine does. What does that and what is it?

I also have this brew pot thing (like a MrCoffee) that I make tea in.

But like you I already miss the good stuff I had in GA. Mine just doesn't taste that good...

Ah jeepers... you sound like a yuppie now. White tea? what the hell is that good for? LOL And I can BUY bottled tea here too.

I havent had a problem with anything on the top when we make sun tea.. maybe I'll do that this weekend, we're supposed to finally be getting sun.. and yeah..the stuff from Wawa doesnt taste as good as the stuff Malin's mommom or my mother used to make

I thought it was the tea bags I was using so I went to only Liptons. And when I make sun tea, I use those and a bag of Constant Comment or something like that. But I still get this weird shit on the top of the tea. (frustrated face, here)

Shy brought me some good Tetley's tea when she came over. It makes great hot tea, I've not tried it for ice tea yet. Like you, maybe this weekend I'll do that, too.

But so far, no sun here. Just lots of rain.

I got a tea jar at walmart today for 5 bucks. And 48 big bags were just a little over 3 dollars. The bottled tea is expensive. 5 dollars for 12.

But I imagine this won't work in December.

Oh fuck, I hear thunder.

Slipping in to crash this thread for a moment....

ADR, save the Tetley teabags for hot tea. Delicious hot tea, I think....

I no longer live in the Carolina's and this thread reminded me that I haven't had or made sweet tea in ages. Boy do I miss it! When I did, though, I always used Luzianne tea bags. And for me, anyway, the sugar has to be added to really hot water first, otherwise it never dissolved. So when I made sun tea, I would make a simple syrup (1 c sugar to less than a half cup of boiling water) to add to the cold water. But honestly, I'm not sure that I ever mastered sun tea.

And, living the same weather front as you right now....it doesn't look like I'll be trying sun tea this weekend either. :(

Allllllll right.... now we're getting somewhere, an actual recipe! Thank you. And no way can you crash a thread.

Thank you. I'm going to try this today but I'll have to brew it up instead. ;-D

LOL! Then perhaps I should give you the whole recipe!

Bring about 2 c water to a boil. Remove from heat and add 6-8 teabags. (Some people add a pinch of baking soda - said to remove any bitterness.) Let steep for 10 - 15 minutes. Remove tea bags and add one cup sugar. Stir until thoroughly dissolved. Pour into a gallon container and fill with ice and water.

Refrigerate. Drink and enjoy (with lemon, of course.) :rose:

(oh, and I've never added the baking soda...but I never noticed any bitterness either...)

This isn't southern sweet tea but I thought I'd post it anyway since its sweet and tasty too. The recipe is from The Barefoot Contessa and is the tea I make the most often now.

4 lemon zinger tea bags
4 red zinger tea bags
4 c water
4 c apple juice (I use unsweetened apple juice, otherwise its a bit too sweet for me.)

Bring water to a boil. Remove from heat and add tea bags. Steep for 10 -15 minutes. Pour into pitcher and add apple juice. Refrigerate until cold.

The way my family and I make sweet tea is the following (mind you we like ours really sweet):

For a gallon:

Put 2 family size tea bags or 6 of the small bags into coffee maker. Feel coffee maker up with water. (turn on coffee make, let finish).
Add 2 1/2 cups of sugar to pitch. Add tea from coffee pot, stir, then once sugar disappeared fill up rest with water.

Yum Yum! Now I want some sweet tea.

Sorry, that was me, lol

I think the traditional southern sweet tea calls for the Luzienne tea not the Lipton. And cane sugar. The stuff's like crack when it's made right.

I like my tea reeeeeal strong. So Okay I'm getting my MrCoffee/Tea maker thingy out right now! But I only have Tetley from Shy and Liptons. The Lipton's will have to do for now.

I'll let you all know how this turns out...

My first glass of sun tea sweetened with Splenda. Yum. Wish I had a lemon.
