I tried it last night with Jodessa. Ugani (eel) and Red Snapper. The flavor is fine, but I can't get past the texture. Who likes sushi? Who doesn't?

I've never tasted it, but I don't think I could get by the texture either. Good for you for trying it though.

I've tried it 3 separate occasions- each time I felt nauseous afterwards. I think it's because of the texture...

ehhhh.... It's okay, I wasn't all that impressed with it when I tried it

I recommend yellow tail and the red tuna, especially for beginners. Eel is too chewy for my taste, and snapper is a tad bland at times. Every type of sushi has a different texture and taste. I prefer a smoother texture, while Mr. Mischka prefers the grainier, thicker types. To each their own.

Also, make sure you go to a place with real wasabi. Most places make their wasabi from a powdered base - it is nothing like the real stuff. Fresh wasabi and pickled ginger enhance the flavor of any sushi - it a truly a delightful experience for the senses.

I think I've caught too many fish and seen too much fish guts in my lifetime to ever consider eating the stuff raw. No, thank you.

You forgot to cook this.

*in my best Terry Bradshaw*

My fish must be square and fit nicely on a bun thank you!

Seriously...only well grilled seafood for me..raw=ewwwwwww

Salmon filet marinated in cajun seasonings...grilled....nummy.

I've eaten sushi tons of times.
It's great.
I won't however eat dead, uncooked fish and other sea life wrapped around my sushi.

I'm a huge Sushi fan, when we lived in Vancouver or Portland my mother and I would go to Natures every Saturday and she'd buy me a plate of sushi. I used to order extra wasabi and I'd stick a big chunk of it in my mouth and force myself not to cry, turn red, drink water or make any noises.
My mother found this quite humorous.

Ive tried it but I did not like it much.
Im not a big fan of fish so maybey it clouded my judgment.

I don't eat fish when it's been cooked so I'll be buggered if I'm gonna eat it raw.

Give a Chinese or Indian meal any day ;)

Okay, this annoys me, and it happens everytime I talk about sushi so let's get this clear:
SUSHI IS NOT RAW FISH.
That is sashimi.

Sushi is seafood and rice, most of the times it's cooked.

The nigiri or hand-made sushi is the typical sushi and is ordered and served in pairs. Another type includes sushi rolls, or maki, which are made with sheets of seaweed (nori) and served as six slices. There is also pressed sushi or oshi, which is cut into small squares. And finally, there is stuffed bean curd rolls, or inarizushi.

It's not bloody either, you're thinking steak. :)

MMmmmm steak, now thats real food....none of this fannying around with little bits of fish.

Sushi is "seasoned rice," and refers to the rice and vegetable part of the dish. "Sashimi" is raw fish. Both can be wonderful...

D'oh! Should have read the whole thread...

You almost certainly have nori wrapped around it, which is the smoked seaweed.

I thought that was electrical tape, since I was eating eel. (I know, stupid joke)

Takes a few tries, but I really love the stuff. I recommend lots of kirin (or sapporo) beer with maybe shots of rice whiskey in it. (good for dates, they never know what hit them).

Most countries have really wild and weird stuff, but some of that stuff is fabulous.

Spain: Squid in ink 5 stars
France: Horse meat, snails 3 stars
Africa: Zebra 5 stars plus!
Japan: Sushi, sashimi, etc. 5 stars plus!
Argentina: Churrasco (steak) 5 stars

Things to avoid (in my opinion)

Caviar (yuck)
Dog
Wildebeast
Lion
White horseradish (Korea) sauce (it is dangerous)
Uni (sea urchin) with the quail egg (raw) .... nasty stuff.

I'm only tried sushi/sashimi once. I generally don't like fish at all, but sushi doesn't really taste like fish. This could be due to the fact that they use loads of vinegar and only a little bit of fish in each roll.

It wasn't that great. Not horrible, but not great. Very salty, and a little slimy. But I didn't retch. I'm so proud :D

Don't eat it much

But I got a goldfish named Sushi.

Keeps the fucker alive!
