South Carolina governor fires prison chief
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Reuters) - South Carolina Gov. Jim Hodges fired the head of the state corrections department Thursday following revelations two guards allowed inmates to have sex in a temporary governor's mansion where they were part of a work detail.
The revelations were the latest in a widening prison sex scandal that began in 2000 when convicted child-killer Susan Smith, serving a life sentence for drowning her two young sons in a South Carolina lake, admitted to having sex with two guards in a maximum-security prison.
"I am simply outraged. The sanctity of my home has been violated. My family that stayed in that home were all understandably upset," said Hodges, who lives in the mansion with his wife and two children, aged 5 and 7.
Hodges dismissed Doug Catoe, who headed up the state corrections department and was reappointed by the governor in 1999. Catoe was replaced by Dodge Frederick, special agent in charge of the FBI's South Carolina bureau for five years.
Four minimum-security inmates allegedly had trysts at the temporary governor's mansion, a private home in Columbia, South Carolina, being leased for the governor while the permanent mansion is under renovation.
Prison guards Freddie Priester, 49, of Columbia, and Demont Gilbert, 22, of New Ellenton face charges of misconduct in office and violation of contraband laws for allowing the inmate trustees to have sex in the home.
Since July 2000 at least six South Carolina prison guards have been charged with having sex with inmates. Two female inmates have become pregnant.

And that one tabloid that's too broke to print in color keeps breaking the "news" that Susan Smith keeps getting her ass kicked all to hell in prison. This is news? Shocking? I rather expected her fellow inmates to kill her off years ago. Rather like Jeffery Dahmer got it. Female prisoners may have done nasty things, but they are just as protective of children as the rest of us. Or so I understand.

I am disgusted by that woman to the extreme. I agree with all the other posts...she should be sterilized and I think the drowning in a lake for her would be to good. She is a psychopath. She feeds on men and she seems to feed on the attention she recieves for all the vile things she has and continues to do. I do think that she should be locked in her cell and be made to see pictures of those babies and film of the lake where she killed them. She should have the sounds of lapping lake water filtered into her cell. I know that might seem cruel but she deseerves more punishment that 3 hots and a cot. What kind of sick man would have sex with that succubus. She is foul and I can't imagine that the guards don't know what she is in there for. I am sure she wil eventually get dealt with in prison most child murderers and rapists do. It just seemsto be taking a little longer than expected. Bless her little children's souls...those poor things...I still think of them....

The bitch killed her kids. She violated their right to live, to grow up, to have fun... People like that should no longer -have- their constitutional rights. She should have been stripped of them the moment she was convicted to life in prison. If she is murdered in prison, her killer deserves an award.

I understand that it is cruel and unusual but honestly how cruel and unusual is she. I mean what kind of mother..not even mother.. what kind of human being does something like that to her own children. It seems that a lot of people want to see her as crazy because that makes it easier to deal with. The fact is apparently that there are people in this world that are just straigt f***** up. She had issues from her own childhood and she should have dealt with those before she decided she wanted a family of her own. This is just my own personal opinion right here... If you want to go fishing, you can't you have to go and get a license to catch the fish you want... but anyone with a penis or vagina is able to procreate. It seems to me that some people shouold NOT breed. But like I said before that is just my opinion.

Well my opinion is.. yes she should. She murdered. Not only did she murder, but she murdered her own KIDS. The way I look at it, she took away another person's right.
The most basic right of all that everyone, regardless if they live in America under our rules.
The right to live, to continue the lives they were living when they were locked into their mother's car, shoved into a lake and left to die so she could have her man.
No, I honestly don't believe that it would be cruel and unusual punishment. Not at all. I believe quite honestly that it would be justice to her two little boys.
But that's just my own personal opinion.
