Helen’s birthday is coming up and she is frustrated that her husband always gets her lame gifts so she made arrangements at a local department store.
She picked out something special and all he has to do is call and order it for her.
Her son overheard her telling her friend about her plan but doesn’t think much of it.
Later, he reminds his dad to make sure he gets something special for her. He tells his son that she made some silly arrangements but that he got her a much better gift anyway.
The son realizes that his mom is being set up for disappointment so he decides to call the store. He finds that she picked out a gift and made arrangements for it to be delivered on her birthday and all he needs to is give a credit card. He used his dads card and set up the order.
When son gets home from school, he’s a HS Senior, he hears his mom on the phone talking to his dad. From the one sided conversation he realizes that she thinks her husband got her the package that arrives from the department store. After she hangs up he goes into the kitchen and says hi.
They chat and she explains that she’s confused. She tells him that she thought her husband got one gift but that he said he left his gift for her in their bedroom. The son then explains that he knew her plan and didn’t want to disappoint her so he bought it for her.
She excuses here self, feeling a little embassy what he son bought her, and goes to the bedroom to get the gift from her husband. It’s a gift card for a local salon.
She is pissed at her husband and curses when she see it. The son comes up hearing her upset and asks a her about it. She shows him the gift card and then asks him if he knows what he bought her.
He says that he doesn’t. She tells him that it’s an outfit she picked out for herself. He asks to see it but she says that she doesn’t think it would be appropriate.
‘C’mon mom, I saw you in that skimpy bikini on vacation last summer. How much worse can a dress be?’
‘Well, it’s not exactly a dress...’
‘C’mon, I bought it for you the least you can do is show me what I got!’
