souls who still feel the twinges, regardless of how long 'clean.'

After all, though I have my 30-year pin, I will always be a Republican in recovery, subject to relapse should I be exposed to Fox 'news' for any appreciable amount of time each week.

This is a place for tortured Republicans to hug and support each other, to become the thousand points of light, through sharing our inner darkness.

I'll start. My name is "J" and I'm a Republican in recovery. I used to admire Richard Nixon.

Even if it were true, that's one thing I can't ever imagine admitting to. :D

This is very strange - Pure a Nixon admirer and Roxanne living on a commune.

The Sixties were even stranger than I thought!

Voting Republican or Democrat is not an easy choice.

Is there anyone who is totally at ease with everything each party represents?

I'm certainly not with the choice of three main parties in the UK. Whichever one I vote for there are policies that I don't agree with and initiatives I wouldn't want to support.

Whether in the US or the UK, your vote is a compromise. You shouldn't accept blame for what your chosen party did or does unless you wanted that policy specifically.

The people who should be blamed when things go wrong are the people who didn't vote at all. Voting is a civic duty that honours those who died to ensure that we still have a vote.

Just so, Og. Well said.

Hi Nomad,

Hey, we're in recovery. NO Republican bashing!

As to
N Every time a soldier dies, remember who you voted for.,

P: which you as a spinless liberal put up and didn't have the guts to stick with...

Who do you think ended the Viet Nam War, ending the stream of TENS of thousands of dead soldiers, back then?

PS: Near and at the peak, more than 500 were dying each month, for many months.

The riverine ('brown water') units in Vietnam have a website with history and stats.

I have my own way of voting. I vote AGAINST whoever is currently holding office. Throw the rascals out!

OH COME ON!!!

The Moral Right party being taken down by a gay man with a preference for teenage boys.

This is irony of biblical proportions... maybe there is a satan because even I don't have that evil a sense of humor.

Laugh, people... this shit is hilarious!

I'm a republican. In the real sense of the word. I like republics. I'd like my country to be one, instead of a monarchy.

I like monarchies... as long as I'm the king.

'Is good to be king!

Unfortunaltely, I'm not the king.

So to hell with him. Ribbon cutting doofus.

com'on el, ya know ya wanna come out of the closet. we can be very supportive -- with 'tough love' of course. :rose:

Tough love is how I live my life. Every time I try to get some lovin' from the wife, she gives me a tough time. :D

Damn straight.

We've ceased to discuss politics at family gatherings because of our wildly differing points of view. (I hated that know-it-all smirk we'd often get from sis and brother-in-law.)

So this is good. This is very good.

The next time we're forced to get together with them, hubby and I will just grin.

As a matter of fact, the fact that Foley is gay shouldn't have anything to do with his sexual appetite for youngsters. Yet that is what we are hearing from some Republicans now.

As if the reason this bottom feeder was preying on young employees was because he was gay, and not a creepy sexual predator.

Now, now. Republicans are an all-inclusive party. So long as you can still send dirty e-mails to teenage boys while heading committies against pedophiles (you forgot that part in the Biblical irony comment), you can join.

Seriously!

Republicans saying they were afraid of calling Foley out were because they might be accused gay bashing is like someone saying they were afraid of informing on someone like you see on those Dateline catch a predator shows because they might be accused of straight bashing.

I vote Republican most often (didn't for the big GWB though). Voted for McCain, however.

If anyone thinks there is actually a choice between the two parties just look at who is paying for them. Both parties received most of their national funding from oil companies and pharmaceuticals. I voted for Kerry on social issues, but don't think he would have done anything different economically or security issues.

Blow smoke out our butts all we want- America just doesn't give you freedom to choose who to vote for. The absence of minority candidates from any number of classifications is a good example of that.

good point: there was a time when Republicans had nothing to be ashamed of: centrism, rule of law, cautiousness abroad, and fiscal responsibility. 'cept for Arlen and Chuck H. and a couple others, it appears Nixon and Kissinger were the last of 'em.

Um, Kissinger? Cautiousness abroad?

Please Pure, you're overloading my perceptiveness sensors!

Lalalalalala, I can't hear you!
