Not watching the thing, since I frankly don't understand the rules. But I thought of something...

Anyone know what the heck the name is referring to? The trophy? The arena? The bowling alley where the victors go to celebrate?

not a clue.

I'm watching for the tight pants and American accents :p

(Actually gonna go sleep soon, so I'll miss the end. someone let me know who won ok? *L*)

Stadiums in this country have been refered to as bowls, because of their design, since they began ppearing in the early part of the last century. Colege football championships took that moniker soon after. (Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Gator Bowl etc.) With the merger of the two pro football leagues in the early 60s (I think) they wanted to have a championship game of their own and it was dubbed The Superbowl.

Ooops I dropped my gum.

Not sure where the name comes from, but the trophy won in the Super Bowl is called the Vince Lombardi Trophy after a famous football coach.

It wasn't actually dubbed the "SuperBowl" until the third one in '69, the one Broadway Joe won. The first two were the NFL championships in '67 and '68, both won by Green Bay.

Supposedly, in '68 a superball that Kansas City Chiefs' president Lamar Hunt saw his children playing with was the inspiration. Because of the ball's liveliness, he changed a couple of letters and proposed a new name for the championship game between what was then the American Football League and the National Football League: the Super Bowl. The two leagues merged in '70 into what is now the NFL.

This is the sloppiest game I've ever seen!

Damnit, New England is enough of a joke as it is, without our teams making us look worse!

Have you ever seen Tom Brady without the uniform and gear? He looks like he just walked off a small town farm, still picking cow shit from between his toes. All he needs is the overalls, John Deere hat and a shaft ot wheat in his teeth.

You know I was watching that halftime show and I never did see the wardrobe malfunction. I guess I didn't miss much huh? (Although the uproar after was kind of fun to watch and listen to.)
