A little early, perhaps, before the play-offs begin, but year's end is oftimes a little quiet on the forum front and perhaps some of youse guys ( no gals allowed) {KIDDING!}would like to see if you can pick the eventual super-bowl opponents.

Winner takes all; prize will be my year long collection of bellybutton lint from Yui, Roxanne, Selena Kittyn, SheReads, Tatelou, SweetnPetite...list is in no particular order and not conclusive as I may edit when I remember other contributors.

It's going to be San Diego vs The Bears, barring any unfortunate injuries. No one can stop Tomlinson, so they should sail through the playoffs. As long as Grossman doesn't have a meltdown (no sure bet), the Bears should beat everyone (although New Orleans makes me a little nervous). Those two teams in a Super Bowl...hmmm...I have to pick Chicago because I'm a die hard fan, but it would be tough to bet against the Chargers.

Des...I think you have the inside track...although I would love to see Seattle struggle through, I thought they got robbed last year....and the Saint's...what a boost for New Orleans if they could get there....

and I really hate the Callous Doughboys....and Denver did wrong by benching Jake the Snake...but, ah well...such is life...

happy new year!

Chicago Bears Odds to Win the 2007 NFC Championship

The Chicago Bears odds to win the 2007 NFC Championship are pretty substantial as the Bears hold a huge lead in the NFC. But that might not matter once in the post season as there have been concerns over the quarterback situation with Chicago.

Despite the Bears wide lead in the NFC, they are only an even favorite at online sportsbooks like BetCRIS.com (see website here)

The next shortest odds to win the 2007 NFC Championship belong to Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys at +250. The New Orleans Saints come in next at +350 (or bet $100 to win $350). The Seahawks come in next at +1700, just to give some idea of the wide disparity in the NFC.

I understand the way the betting is going, but the Cowboys are really looking beatable at the moment. The defense is weak, the running game average, and Romo gets away with a lot of mistakes (usually). I would be shocked if they made it past the Bears or the Saints. Indy looks weak as well (lost to Houston???). I'd say Denver or Baltimore are both capable, but the Chargers are still my pick. I'd love to see a Baltimore/San Diego matchup. I wonder if they could contain Tomlinson?

Philly is a good darkhorse in the East. They are playing better and could get hot.

It's too hard to pick this year. All the top teams are so closely matched. Which is a good thing. Makes the games more exciting, for the most part. I would love to see Indy vs. New Orleans in the Superbowl, which is as realistic as any other scenario I can dream up. Everybody is a longshot this year. Indy needs to heal a LOT before the playoffs if they have any real shot, though.

I'm still not convinced the Bears are as good as their record indicates. They had a lot of pushover games early in the season, and almost fell to Phoenix, of all teams. In the playoffs all the teams are good. They could be out early. The Bears and the Colts have the same problem, just flipped. They are unbalanced. The Colts have a devastating offense with a hit or miss defense, the Bears have a great defense with a hit or miss offense.

Seattle is tough, but I'm a little suspicious of them, having dealt with the injuries they've had this season and trying to work back into a rhythm with their replacements.

I have to agree with S-Des on the Chargers, at least at this point. They have been fortunate enough to keep their key players healthy. If anything happens to take Tomlinson out of the game, though, they are done.

The Bears biggest problem on offense is the coaching. Grossman has had 4 bad games (out of 15, that's not too bad), but they have 2 stellar running backs. If they had any patience on offense, they'd run the ball down people's throats and be unbeatable (except for the Ravens, they can be devastating on D). They get too pass happy, which reveals all of Grossman's flaws. Despite people making a big deal out of the bad games, they are #2 in the NFL in scoring and among the leaders in most offensive categories. Their special teams is the best in football IMHO.

It doesn't mean they're unbeatable, this isn't the 85 Bears, by any stretch of the imagination. But I think it's a lot more complete team than the ones who got bounced in the first round the last two times.

New Orleans vs. San Diego.

New Orleans is tempting. The Saints have a new coach who has instilled the "yes I can!" mentality. Also, the Saints have Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and a wide receiver out of nowhere. If you want a chance bet, the Saints are there for the taking.

I would love to see what Reggie Bush and Staley could do with the Indy run defense. Indy can score with Manning, but their run defense has been mostly mailed in.

The run defense in Indy is horrible. There are so many injuries on the defense that I'm surprised they were able to compete at the level they had this year. Corey Simon is a monster as a runstopper, and he's been gone for the season. Bob Sanders, my favorite player in the entire NFL, has been hurt all year. Monte Raegor has been gone since very early in the season. Mike Doss went out for the season early, pulling a very important element from the secondary. The defense is a patched together unit operating on a shoestring.

I'm a Colts fan, but everything is just too stacked against them for them to do much this year. Even a halfway decent defense, with that offense, would make them a juggernaut.

I agree with The Fool: New Orleans vs San Diego

The Ravens proved it's possible to win the Superbowl w/o a top quarterback. But that was the exception, not the rule. It's hard to pass on the Bears with home field, a bye and that defense, but do-able.

The spread is, of course, a better indication of a team's rep than its strength. Two weeks after the Saints beat the Cowboys like (fill in your favorite cliche'), the public is giving the nod to "America's Team."

gee, wonder who I'm favoring to win it all? ;)

The Bolts biggest challenge will be Baltimore. The Pats are short a few linebackers and can't stop L.T. and Gates. The Colts can't stop Ron Dayne  . If LaDainian gets hurt, or we lose personnel on the O-Line, we are in trouble.

I'd love to see New Orleans...I hated seeing Drew leave and Reggie Bush is a local boy...but I think Da Bears are the most likely NFC winner.

Regardless of the NFC opponent, the AFC has two and possibly three teams that will beat any of them if they play up to normal performance levels...

...but anything can happen in football. I'm making no bets and planning no parties for early February until the dream actually comes true. Right now, it's naught but an intoxicating fantasy...

kinda like a lot of the ladies around here... ;)

This has been a pretty amazing season, if you're a sports gambler. Especially if you're a dog player. Underdogs are 78% against the spread this season. Dogs have actually won outright about 68% if the time. if you're like me, you've given up, closed shop, no more bets until the playoffs.

I can't count how many 3-team parlays I've hit. I'm up more than three grand, and I'm ready for the playoffs. Bears and Chargers, Da Boltz will take it all.

P.S, Sorry I didn't vote in your stupid poll.

There is one person who can stop the Sparkies in the playoffs... King Raider Hater himself, Marty "One and Done" Shottenheimer.

He will live up to his nickname again....

I picked Bolts. They better wear the powder blues in the SB. :p

Colts are, once again, a heartbreak. As much as I love Dungy, think Manning is the total shit, that run defense has to get through SD at best, and that just won't happen.

NFC is a total tossup. Grossman makes da Bears da Crapshoots. Philly is playing well. Seattle? Don't get me started. NO? Nice story, need to embrace the mojo, or maybe that's what's gotten them this far.

I have to go with the Pack. Next year. :p

I wonder how much, if any, the odds will change on the Cowboys after last night's 7-27 loss to Philly? That the Dallas defense has given up 93 points in the last three games might be way too exotic a stat for the average SB bettor to comprehend.

Of course, Zeb's figures about 'dogs covering would seem to indicate the average bettor is even dumber than usual this year.

I know how you feel Boota. As a Jets fan, I love how well they're doing (mostly because it'll make Mangini look good in his premiere season versus the NY press). As a realist, I can't ignore that they're managing to pull wins out with the easiest schedule I think the NFL may ever have seen, and they've still lost six games (and as any Pittsburgh fan should tell you, the Raiders may suck, but to win one game... anyone can do that). I want NYJets in the playoffs just to give those rookie linemen a real test, regardless of the fact that they've pretty much failed the tests they've had this year. Did anyone else see Jason Taylor completely school D'Brickashaw Ferguson last night?

As for the Colts... They're a perennial playoff team, but I don't think they'll ever get anywhere with Manning at the helm. Yes, he's as close as it gets to the next Dan Marino (but how close does it get, really?) but they never seem to pull off the big games, not with him at the helm. Otherwise, I'd say "screw how bad the run defense is. It takes time to run the ball downfield, Manning, Wayne and Harrison are there in seconds next drive."

SB: Bolts and Dears. Dunno if I think Rivers is ready to start in that big of a game against that good of a defense, however. Still, LT in place, Chargers.

I'm sorry, is there another sport besides hockey?

Poor thing, not really a sorry person so much as someone who's culturally deprived. More to be pitied than censured, I suppose ;)
