I have a story, College Days, in my Paul and Jenny series. One of the men tells of how he and his father and brother used to have sex with his sister until she died.

I did not write anything graphic. But I was accused by one lady, who had been in a similar position once, that I must have been involved in it myself. Not true. I even told her I would delete the story.

Suggestive writing or just striking a cord in someone? I don't know. Whatever, it ruined my chances of a leg-over.

We don't talk anymore. Sad.

Sometimes to include rape and violence can offend.

We all risk offending people from time to time. Of course people are going to be upset, of course they're going to react badly...but how many messages about your story did you get from people that weren't about how sick and wrong it was?

Rape and violence can offend, but they can also make a good story...maybe not such an erotic story, but a good one. If it makes you feel better to take your story offline for this woman, then do so. If not, then don't - she probably won't even look at your story list again.

Whatever the subject, of ANY story or poem, there are going to be people who react to it, but, isn't that the point? Some reactions are going to be positive, and others negative.
In the situation you gave, the problem seems to lie with the woman who won't speak to you anymore, rather than your story. I know that there is subject matter that I will not go NEAR because I know it will cause negative reaction in me, but I don't go spouting out at the author of those stories, I just stay away from them.

Now, I haven't read that story (tried to find it, but there are maaany chapters there :) ) so I might misread this, but if what you mean is that the death was actually a result of said sex, then you don't have to be very graphic about it to piss people off.

Just the mention of something like that would be enough to turn on the distaste switch for a majority of readers. However, whatever you write, there will always be readers who will take offense. If not, you're in the wrong place, and should try scriptwriting for Hallmark instead.

Still, you are in your full right to write whatever piece of story you want to, without having pepole implying that they are anything but pure fiction. Did anything else in the story suggest that it was autobiographical, other than that a character has your name?

the lady in question had been abused in a relationship and possibly as a child.

something I wrote struck a chord.

I never described the sex, just made mention to it.

It comes towards the end of College Days, story seven in the Paul and Jenny series.

hiya

you can't please all the people all the time paul, and some will appreciate your tales, some will find a sad or horrific memory in there somewhere as with all sex related stories, some will be offended by it all.
no two people are the same, as no two erotic stories are the same.
bloody shame your friend took offence, but just keep up the writing safe in the knowledge some will enjoy.
