I posted my first story a few days ago "The Honeymoon" and have gotten some positive and negative comments on it. One person took the time to actually send me the message below, unfortunately, they were not man or woman enough to give their name or any way to reply to them. I understand the person's concern but I don't know how to address it for future stories that I submit. I am open to suggestions on how to address the issue. I know I cannot please everyone with what I write but I do want to get better at it.

The person sent me the following:

About the submission: The HoneymoonThis feedback was sent by: Anonymous Comments:

"I HATE stories that end with "To be continued" or in some other way indicate that this is only the first chapter without informing the readers of this important fact BEFORE they open the fucking thing. I hate it so much that, after years of putting up with this shit, I decided that all such stories get an automatic rating of one (1).<P>Since it is obvious that you don't give a fuck about the readers nor your own story, you have no business -- you have no right -- to be pissed about this. It's what you deserve. Actually, you deserve a lower rating, but that's all they'll allow."

As far as the person's tone of the message they can eat the corn out of my **it for all I care. However, I would like to know how I could indicate a story is just part 1 or chapter 1. Is putting it in the title the only way to do that?

As I said this was my first submission, it is unfortunate to get this type of feedback for an obvious asshole who could have addressed the issue with a little constructive guidance. To bad, they were too much of a coward to actually leave their screen name.

To my knowledge, putting it in the title is the only way to do it. Another way would be to have a little acknowledgement section in italics, or maybe to have the first line of the story be "PART 1" or something. But you'd probably have to differentiate anyway: when you submit the next chapter, I think the editors of the site will automatically append "Part 2" to it, because you're not allowed to have (like) six stories all called "The Honeymoon". And understandably so. How confusing would that be.

Still, feel free to do exactly as your instincts suggest, and ignore raging assholes like this guy. If he really is on a personal crusade to give a 1-star rating to any story where the author forgets to mark it as "part 1", it's because he's a 40-year-old jerkass who still lives in his mother's basement. :D

Thanks for the reply. For future submissions that are to be continued I will put part 1 or chapter 1 in the title (after my latest one is approved). LOL

I recently had a multi part story moved to novels and novellas so that all the parts could be viewed together. This also seems to have brought new interest to the entire series. All the parts have the chapter number in the title
