My Dom and I are getting married Halloween 2009. Going to be deeply religious grannys and highly feminist family members present (from both sides). We're including the Ceremony Of The Roses in lieu of a ring exchange, using a silver choker for the collar and a long, very fine sterling silver chain (without announcement of it's true meaning. Our officiant and witnesses will know, and that's all that needs to know). We'd like to have an appropriate song playing during this portion of the ceremony. Something pretty, with subtle references to the roles we've chosen. I've peeked at (and added to) the "bdsm songs" thread. None of them are quite what I'm looking for. Any other suggestions?

(ignore the video, listen to the words)

one of my favorite subtle songs

I don't mean to criticize your thought processes here (and you obviously know your family better than anyone here), but why are you going to subtlety in the lyrics? If you're going to be collared in front of religious and feminist family members, why would a song matter?

Not being sarcastic, just a little confused.

I understand the confusion gingermango. Our umm... more conservative, let's call them - family members will simply think the choker is in place of a wedding band. Only the very, VERY closest people to us will understand the significance of it beyond that. My best friend of 20 years and his best friend of nearly 30 years. No-one else will be aware of what is really going on. They'll simply see a pretty and (to them) unique alternative to the ring exchange. We considered having the COTR separate from the actual wedding, but we like this way much better. It's our very private, secret moment in an ocean of public spectacle.

Hope that helps clear up your confusion!

ETA: and because we'll be turning the microphones off for this part. Music will be needed to fill the void.

I am surprised your family will accept that the exchange of necklaces is just a unique alternatives to a ring. If I did that, my family would ask a lot of follow up questions. Well, that and I have relatives who are around my age who have access to the internet. But you are certainly under no obligation to explain!

Well, I suppose it helps that I've nearly always worn one necklace or another, but no rings... In that light, a pretty for my neck is absolutely suitable! :D

(every single member of my family is also PAINFULLY, prudishly vanilla, you have NO idea... So any one of them accidentally stumbling upon the true meaning behind my "unique element" is unlikely. If they do, oh well! I'm not hiding anything, it's just not their business!)

Plus, when I inquired in a number of regular wedding forums about original alternatives to the ring exchange, a necklace was the first thing tossed out every. single. time. (after stressing that - as much as I love my ink - a tattoo would not work, as we wanted something we could do at the ceremony itself. The tats come later). Watches were next. Then bracelets, anklets, toe rings of all things, and roses. That last one was what inspired me to include the COTR in the first place. Apparently it's not only not uncommon, but a rather popular alternative to rings. There's even an entire ceremony already written for a vanilla-type Ceremony of the Roses simply called the Rose Exchange (no pricking of the fingers, no reference to an actual collar, but has a definite COTR flavour). I have it if anyone's curious!

Look into Opera, their is some subtle stuff, and they always dramaticise lovers roles, so a lot of it should fit.

or phantom of the opera... that play is CRAWLING with references

Excellent idea... as POTO is my eldest daughter's favorite story/play/book/movie ever, I don't know why I didn't think of it myself. Thank you! :D

One more suggestion - "Today" by Jefferson Airplane

It doesn't say BDSM unless you want it to.

myinnerslut is my new hero!

Music of the Night - from The Phantom of the Opera

I have brought you to the seat of sweet music's throne ...
to this kingdom where all must pay homage to music ...
music...

You have come here, for one purpose, and one alone ...
I first heard you sing,
I have needed you with me, to serve me, to sing, for my music ...
my music ...

Night-time sharpens, heightens each sensation ...
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination ...
Silently the senses abandon thier defences ...

Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendour ...
Grasp it, sense it - tremulous and tender ...
Turn your face away from the garish light of day,
turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light -
and listen to the music of the night ...

Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams!
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before!
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you'll live as you've never lived before ...

Softly, deftly, music shall surround you ...
Feel it, hear it, closing in around you ...
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind,
in this darkness which you know you cannot fight -
the darkness of the music of the night.

Let your mind start a journey through a strange, new world!
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before!
Let your soul
Take you where you long to be!
Only then can you belong to me ...

Floating, falling, sweet intoxication!
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation!
Let the dream begin,
let your darker side give in to the power
of
the music that I write - the power of the music of the night ...

You alone can make my song take flight -
help me make the music of the night ...

myinnerslut, you ROCK! We've chosen a stunning instrumental version by Andre Rieu, but the words... so perfect... I'll say it again, you totally ROCK!:D

Evanescence, Good Enough

Under your spell again
I can't say no to you
crave my heart and its bleeding in your hand
I can't say no to you

Shouldn't let you torture me so sweetly
now I can't let go of this dream
I can't breathe but I feel

Good enough
I feel good enough for you

Drink up sweet decadence
I can't say no to you
and I've completely lost myself and I don't mind
I can't say no to you

Shouldn't let you conquer me completely
now I can't let go of this dream
can't believe that I feel

Good enough
I feel good enough
its been such a long time coming, but I feel good

and I'm still waiting for the rain to fall
pour real life down on me
cause I can't hold on to anything this good
enough
am I good enough
for you to love me too?

so take care what you ask of me
cause I can't say no

Velvet I love that song!!

I swear to god we were seperated at birth

Anyway, Evanescence's slower stuff is quite subtle like that, take a look at a few of their bits.
