Submitting a Story in Chapters

Perhaps I should already know this, but I don't!

If I am submitting a story in chapters, can I request that the chapters be posted a certain time apart? Is there some secret formula for this? Or, is it simply in the hands of the Gods?

Thanks! :rose:

Complete and utter luck. I always try to make a comment about how many chapters there will be and that they should be out on consecutive days so the readers know they won't have to wait. I submitted 3 in 3 days and had a 2 day gap once. But you can always leave instructions or PM if you think you have any pull.

Thanks! I was afraid that might be the case...and, nah, pretty sure I don't have any pull around here, lol... :catroar:

The best way to ensure that they all come out back to back, if that is what you want, is not to submit anything until you've finished them all. Then, submit them all back to back on the same day.

Standard Lit practice when something is listed as Ch.xx or Pt.xx is to release one a day. They do a good job of keeping up with things like Prelude, Ch.xx, Epilogue too - as I just had a Ch. 20 and Epilogue post like this over the last two days.

That makes sense...Yeah, I decided I would finish the entire thing first. I'd make myself crazy wanting to go back and rewrite what I'd already posted otherwise!

Thanks :rose:

I think you can request that the chapters be released on certain dates. I talked to another writer about a year ago who submitted a series of a dozen or more chapters and she had them scheduled to come out one a week. I think you just need to put the request in the comments on the submission page.

Too bad things like this have to a mystery, like "Kreminology." Too bad someone in authority doesn't have time to just post directions someplace permanent.

Well, considering they haven't had time to tell me why they removed 180 votes from a story that has been through a dozen troll sweeps without more than a moderate correction, I personally don't give a shit if I ever hear from them...

That's understandable. I try to be generous, because I have no idea of the pressures and time constraints involved in keeping this wonderful web site going. I assume their shortcomings are due to reality and very human factors, not any malice or negligence.

I know what you mean, I had hundreds of votes pulled from some of my stories, I asked the first couple of times but, I was never graced with a reply.

With respect to sweeps:

( This is only my opinion based upon my knowledge and the way I perform database management of this nature, and is in no way from the powers that be )

Odds are, they don't know exactly why any certain story in a major sweep loses votes. I would imagine that each regular, contest, or requested sweep builds a database of suspicious IPs, voting patterns, and numerous other criteria.

When a major sweep is performed, all this data is probably mined and compiled into a set of criteria for the big sweeps, when trolls have turned the toplists into a mockery with dynamic IP lowball votes.

This sweep probably uses a few extra places of the IP addy, in order to try and catch revolving IP troll ( good and bad ) votes, to eliminate them as well. This could possibly catch large numbers of multi-votes on your story from fan(s) or foe(s) that have not been picked up in smaller sweeps.

It may also be that large groups of people who either loved or hated your story have been doing questionable things to other people's stories. Their votes on your story, while legitimate, might then be swept because they couldn't behave with respect to other people's stories.

Just some thoughts on how I would do it, if it were me, and from what I've picked up watching the various sweeps since I started posting.

And I've been doing this the hard way, posting one bit up a day or two whenever I remember and then waiting for them all to come out (because sometimes I forget but don't want to overlap chapters).

That should make the posting of a sequel I have coming up soon, easier...thanks for the information.

Never hurts to put a note in the moderator section of the submission too, though. Just to make sure they get released on the schedule you want.

Well, whatever the reason, I have completely lost confidence that the staff at Lit can run a fair and equitable contest.
