Submit button: ACK!

So, when I submit a story, or edit and re-submit, I've always noticed that the "Submit" and "Make Changes" buttons are right there, same level, same size, just left or right. Every time I've previewed a story and went back now and then to fix an error, I would always think..."Ya know, someday I'm gonna hit that damn submit button rather than the "make changes" button..."

Well, that day happened yesterday.

I hit the "Stop loading!" icon, but it was too late (actually, I don't know if it did finish downloading). Now an "edited"--but not edited version of a story is "pending" and I'm pretty upset. I wasn't ready to submit it, damn it!

What do I do? I've pm'd Laurel, but no response as yet on the subject. Why is there no way for us writers to nab a pending story and say, "Wait! I unsubmit! Let me try again!"?

Any advice?

ACK! I've done that...
Best you can do is submit an edit of the edit... or PM Laurel, but that's hit and miss...

Since you've already PMed Laurel, I don't think there's anything you can do but wait for it to come out and submit an edited version again. Sorry. :(

I've done this as well, the edit of an edit solution.

Just can add what the others have said. I do however have a question.

Why have you put the story in the MLE if you aren't finished editing it?

What I do is set word to the format that Lit. uses and get the story looking like it would on Lit. before I even paste it in the MLE. It's ready to go with just a check to see if any formatting got screwed up, which hardly ever occurs, and then it's the submit button.

What bothers me more is when I hit the Submit button on purpose and fail to notice in a speed reading scan that I've uploaded a draft instead of the final. I really need to stick some images of stop signs in that folder to alert me I'm still in it and not in my final folder. I've noticed I was doing it several times before at the last moment.

I just did this in the process of submitting an edited version of Danica 01 smacking down some quirks I've discovered in my writing, and so a partial edit is sitting up there now with two nearly identical descriptions of her right at the top of the tale. Grrr... The second one is changed in the final to more character specific thoughts in the final, which I just submitted.

Now 16 is going to go live with a terrible clunky goof right at the beginning of 1, which always gets several new reads when a new chapter comes out.

Oh, I finished editing it. I edit the shit out of my stories. And then, when I submit them and look at the preview...I realize there are mistakes I didn't catch. So I hit the "Changes" button and make changes...be they a misplaced comma or a repetitive word.

Then I submit.

Then the story gets posted and someone writes to me and says, "You fucked up on this...it doesn't work that way...." or I come back to it and go, "Oh, shit, I fucked up there and didn't catch it...."

So. I edit and re-submit.

This is called "Obsessive."

I do end up leaving most of my stories well enough alone. But now and then, going back over them a day, a week or a month later, I tweak, edit, alter, make better...or so I hope. On one story, I made a really serious mistake with the sex that I didn't catch. I don't know if readers decided not to tell me or if they didn't catch it either, but I can tell you, I was *damn* embarassed when, months later, someone finally pointed it out and I rushed to edit the darn thing.

Better than seeing the mistake on a printed page...unalterable. Trust me on this. There's nothing worse than having a reader come up to you and say, "I liked your story, but there was this one really wrong thing...." And you know you can't fix it and can only wince and hope others don't notice and point it out to you.

Update!

Update! Mistaken edit has been "rejected" and I've submitted the new-and-improved-absolutely-fuckin'-correct edit.

I've sent a pm to Laurel apologizing and thanking her profusely.

I suspect I'm not the only one, however, who lives in fear of pushing "Delete" instead of "preview" and "submit" instead of "make changes."

I wish they'd changed the size/shape/placement of those buttons to make it less likely for a person to hit the wrong one. I kinda feel like I'm looking at the two buttons. One says "Launch" and the other "Abort" --Oh, gosh, I hope I don't hit the wrong one!

What would be cool is if they changed places randomly. That would make you read the text on the button.

This is like the Ok/Cancel buttons on any window. The Ok button is always supposed to be on the Left side of the two for English. Now for other languages like Chinese or Hebrew they are reversed.

So I would say that the correct button, the button you really want is probably the left of the two as this is a coding standard. Although I have seen this standard broken and it is truely confusing when it happens. I tend to give those programs a wide berth if at all possible.

Do you "choose file"? Or do you copy and past the text into that window? Maybe changing what you're doing there would help you on this?

So far my speculations aren't working out so well on these things, but here is one that is based on some experience. I did that bad thing, hitting "make changes" about five days after submitting a story. I opened a thread asking this very question, and got conflicting responses. I also PM'd Laurel with begging, but never heard back. Then, my story appeared on schedule, within a day.

One of the responses on the thread I opened was that "make changes" only affects the election of allow voting/allow PCs. Therefore one can change this election after a story has been submitted. Based on this experience I concluded that this was correct. But given that I had two "variables" (having already PM'd Laurel), I can't say for sure.

Here's my earlier thread:
Gah! I accidentally clicked "Save Changes" on "View Submissions"
https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=401606

(Sweet Subsarah said I was doomed, Cloudy gave the answer above, Rumple said it meant the end of civilization. He still could be right, because he did not specify a time frame.)

Update!

Update! The saga continues (yeah, I know you're all bored with it, but damn it, this is my melodrama!)

I mentioned that my mistaken edit got "rejected" (as I wanted) and that I submitted a new edit (this, I forgot to mention, was all for my latest story: "Down to the Bone" Chapter 02). Unfortunately, THE ORIGINAL chapter 02 got "rejected" along with the mistaken edit! ACK!

I pm'd Laurel about this error, but heard nothing back.

The new-and-improved edited Chapter 02 of "Down to the Bone" re-appeared today. Unfortunately for me, it's back without any of the original chapter's high marks, back without any of the original chapter's comments and it's back without it's editor's pick :(

Hey, I'm thankful it's back, I just wish I hadn't fucked it all up.

And as a coda to this whole sorry story...I just got some feedback telling me that Chapter 01 was full of spelling and grammar errors and I ought to edit it.

Bwhahahahahahahaha!
