Hi everyone,

I am relativly new to Lit, have been around a while but as a reader rather than a writer for the most part. This year however, I have decided to push myself a little harder and have a go at the survivor competition, (Hugely competative? Me? No :D), anyway I digress....

The times scaes for things being approved seem to be slower than last year? Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I being overlly sensitive becasue I can see 'points' sat pending, and I am an impatient fairy!!! :D

Some stuff has been sat for a week now, one I know was rejected as I had put a question mark outside speech marks, (At least that was the only thing I could see wrong with it!!), but that was resubmitted a couple of days ago now.

So whats the norm, previously I thought it was about 3 days?

Thanks

At the moment there is the V Day contest running, so other submissions are taking longer to post as V Day entries are given precedence in the queue. As a rule, stuff seems to take between 5 days and a week normally. Or it does in my experience :)

Slower during themed competitions

The Valentine's Day Contest is currently in progress.

During the themed competitions, other submissions are relegated to the end of the queue and can take MUCH longer than normal. Competition entries are given priority.

The rule of thumb for submissions is that they always take at least a day longer than the author thinks is reasonable.

The official Author's Hangout answer to The Question (How long...) is:

It depends on the price of wheat f.o.b Chicago, the Fates, and whether the sheep are comfortable or not in their pasture...

So do I. :(

I think the precise formula is....

((Number of words/Pi^2)*Ambient Temperature in Mongolia)/(Pound Sterling/Rupee))*Winter Wheat prices on Chicago Mercantile Board)

If your story is rejected because you used a question mark outside an ending quotation mark or not is entirely determined by:

a) The number of submissions being reviewed at the time
b) The anal quotient of the editor

Don't worry about it. It happens. ;)

I miss Maths... :(

Me too.

Someone in the Editor's Forum remembered some of her answers to the question:

"Usually three to five days. Up to a week if the editor's bleeding piles are acting up."

"Usually three to five days. May take up to a week if the story contains sex with sheep or renting of pigs."

" Usually three to five days. Sometimes as long as a week if the editor is out chasing cats again."

"Usually three to five days. Sometimes up to a week if the editor has committed ritual sepuku."

Wait until you start submitting audio or illustrated stuff. I've had illustrated submissions pending since 15.Jan and audio since 16.Jan. The wait is so much fun. :D

I've had audio stuff pending even longer than that. :p

Use the server upload. That's what I do.

Hm. This was the first time I tried audio submissions. This doubt will make the wait even more fun, then!

Ahh one of them is my first illustrated submission so maybe that i wont worry about so much then!

Am about to try submitting my first audio this weekend so will be interesting to see how long that takes.

Thanks for the heads up ref the competition slowing things down, I can stop worrying about it now!I can see a huge leap in survivor points post V day then! How exciting

lol

Not one view between them, lol.
My illustrated always took at least 2 weeks and never had a view before being accepted. (then again, all that was ever on the submission form was a note saying the text was in the picture and coming by e-mail...that might have something to do with it. :D)

LOL. I do illustrated poetry by embedding it in a Word document and uploading it. Those get views before they are posted.

The old posts always get drug out when these questions are asked but they're not valid in my experience. The answer is 7 to 10 days. On the longer side when there's a contest running which is about 80% of the time. It's possible that the "regulars" see faster posting times because their names are recognized and their stories go through shorter vetting cycles, but I don't think I've ever, ever had one posted in fewer than 7 days, even on Groundshog Day when the Groundshog Day contest was already over.

Both stories I've submitted so far have taken exactly 6 days from submission to posting.

OK quick question.....

If I submitted something to the romance section and wanted to add it to the survivor comp could I also enter it into the V day comp? Or is it one not the other....not tried any romance stuff...so might be temted to give it a try...new years resolution...try some different categories....:S

I wouldn't think entering a story into a theme contest would effect its eligibility for the Survivor contest.

Where's Lauren when we need her?

All stories and poems with posting dates on or between January 2nd, 2007 and January 1st, 2008 are eligible for Survivor, regardless of their ratings, participation or results on other Literotica.com contests.

There she is!

It's like shining the bat light into the clouds....
