Okay, so I have this idea (to be read: These ideas) for a fan fic, which means it'll be here if I complete it.

Herein lies the issue:

The story is actually more than one. In order for things to work the way they seem to be moving, I'll most likely be looking at a few fair length, multipart stories that all head in one direction, or more accurately, tell different tales, involving some of the same characters, on the same timeline.

The question I have is simple, yet complicated. I'm guessing, with the way Lit audiences tend to stray (though if I misunderstand their reading patterns in the Fan Fic arena, by all means, let me know -- and most of the stories won't likely be erotic stories, so if non-erotic is where they should be instead, advice would be appreciated there as well) that if one reads and enjoys one of these stories, they'll likely read the rest; if not, they'll be unlikely to care much what they missed. That said, should I write each story as though I'm closing it out, letting the reader know everything I feel necessary for them to know in order to fully understand what's going on? Or should I feel comfortable allowing some lapses to remain, questions that would be answered in the other stories concerning these characters and that timeline?

If this isn't clear let me know. I'll be more than happy to word it totally different and royally fuck your chances of understanding better... lol

Or maybe I'll make it more clear, who knows?

Thanx in advance,

Two suggestions...

1. Link the titles together by starting them with the same words. I did this for my Flawed Red Silk and Shelacta series. Submit them all as Novels and Novellas - that way changed categories don't matter except that you should warn readers before incest or anal episodes.

2. Put the common, or continuing, information as an appendix - as I did with the later Shelacta stories. Readers who are continuing don't need the information. Those who come into the middle do. See one of my later Shelacta stories for an example.

I'm sure other AH members can give you more ideas.

Og

Editedfor PS: Try to make each story complete in itself (except for the appendix to show how it fits in with the whole).

I would Say Og's probably got it.

the induvidual stories will probably work best if you can read them as a complete story and understand them. This doesn't neccesarily mean repeating yourself over and over again, but as long as theres no glaring holes you should be able to pass these extra nuggets on to those reaing the series whilst a singular story reader won't miss it.

That, I think, would be ideal.

If it's a fanfic, it'll go in celebrities. my Narnia based Non-Erotic story at Christmas was submitted under Non Erotic but came up in Celebs, I'm assuming because of the disclaimer they have in the celebrity section :)

The celeb section doiesn't get huge reads, either. There are other site for fanfic, too- The famous one- fanfic.net- one of them no longer accepts erotica.
www.adultfanfic.net does, and so does www.ficwad.com
The best aspects of both places is that they allow you to put up your work at your own discretion. There's no wait, and you can edit as often as you want.

Sounds interesting. Does fanfic.net allow any erotic content at all, even if it isn't graphic? I can't imagine not submitting them here too, but most of the stories I've submitted here have also been submitted to eroticstories.com, so doubling up on these as well would seem no problem.

I'll have a look at those Shelacta stories Ogg. I'm not sure what you mean.

I think EL answered my question, pretty much.

Another problem I'm seeing lies in that the stories might overlap in terms of this timeline. Therefore, making a reference to when each one takes place will be hard, in terms of keying in the reader as to which should be read when in the series overall. I'm seeing the strong possibility that more stories will come out of this once I get moving through the two or three I already see. More complications...

Hmmm.....

Woo hoo, I actually answered the question :nana:

I say write'em and then deal with the complications later...see how it works once it's written :D

I couldn't agree more!

I was wrong about fanfic.net- unless your story is based on an anime.
The site you want is www.fanfiction.net. The highest (or is it lowest?) rating there is M for mature, and I don't know what the limitations are- i never bothered to put my erotica there at all.

Good advice, and I'll see if I can manage that, but I'm a sort of do it on the spot kinda writer. I do most of what I need the first time through. Rewriting doesn't offer as much for me. First draft, mild changes, revision.

Okay,I really just want to yell "do it to me, do it to me here and now!" in response to the bit in bold, but I'll try to behave ;)

See whatcha see, love. I think it's easier to think of these questions as you're writing and can see where the story is going, than before, when you're not exactly sure of what you'll write.
