I was thinking of a story where a son puts subliminal messages on the television. His intended target was his sister. He slowly makes her more of a exhibitionist, turning her on and getting her to find him attractive etc. He does it fairly slowly and methodically maybe making her stop wearing a bra, etc.

As this continues he starts to realize that his mother is watching the same programs (by accident) and is being programed as well. She was an unintended target. This could continue to his aunt or cousin, but eventually they are driven to a lustful relationship.

I this the slow corruption and spiral could be hot. I'm not much of an erotic writer though

I figured I would throw this out there...there doesn't seem to be much in this genre.

Nothing is said about it, as they both treat it as a drunken and ridiculous mistake.

Two years later, they're alone together in a situation where she turns to him for help, because she's divorcing his dad.

He's horribly torn because he doesn't want to be in the middle between his parents splitting-up, but he also realizes he did what he did two years ago because there's always been something there.

She realizes it, too.

Gradually, he's corrupted/seduced.

I think that'd be one of the 'fun' bits- it affects anyone who watches it for any significant amount of time, and the longer it's watched the greater the impact.

So the pizza delivery boy/girl who brings the pizza in gets a whiff of the subliminal's intent, perhaps enough to draw them in close enough to get a heavier dose in time. The rest of the family, of course, is toast, with all the joy such as was previously pointed out before.

All the posts thus far suppose visual delivery. Audio, olfactory - those change the game a LOT. Area effect from an emitter, not line-of-sight. Pull a whole park, classroom?

Pull a school or large business via the announcement speakers, maybe - or maybe the static and poor audio signal induces flaws in the message?

What happens if an olfactory subliminal signal becomes mixed with other strong scents - a restaurant, a dump/overfull dumpster/etc?

I think we've passed Subliminal Incest en-route to MC Everyone. It's partly my fault with the RV thang.

So the family takes the RV (upgraded with a 48-inch outside screen) to a grand reunion. Sonny's (and/or Sissy's) messages waft over the kinfolk; and maybe the kids cooked up a brownie or camp-scent recipe with volatile aphrodisiacs, relaxants, stimulants, and erectile dysfunction antidotes. As far as the story goes, I was just breeding plot bunnies with the original coloration to see what else we could do with the lil suckers. This coloration seems quite flexible, lots of places it'll be useful, I think. That being said, I don't think we should assume all these need to be in one story - I suspect it'd work better in multiple unrelated tales.

I'm kinda poking at the gas-residue control mechanism. I can see some fun twists to throw into a story with that as a precursor condition, just trying to find the right character set to tell the story with. . .

Maybe this is taming things down a bit (I prefer something a little more 'realistic'... although... not crazily so)...

How about something like a guy is living at home with his sister and mum. He decides they shouldn't be paying for a streaming service like Netflix and so he sets up a family laptop in the living room and downloads film and things for the family. He adds subliminal single-frame pictures and phrases into the videos and adds barely audible sounds and voices that make the watcher enter a semi-hypnotic trance state which keeps them there all night night, watching, half asleep - so that they are more and more exposed to the suggestion.

He monitors everything very closely, obviously, and it starts to have some effect. He can control his sister in some way, but not all. He tries something out - he wants to make the watcher walk around naked, make a sandwich or something, in the night, fully on display. It's sort of like sleep walking, but maybe more aware...

He leaves the file/program/film/whatever for his sister, for some reason, she just doesn't seem effected by it. Then one night, when his sister is out, he hears commotion in the kitchen and walks in on his mum - naked - making a sandwich. He comes to find out that she has been using a USB stick to take all the files upstairs and has been watching everything too.

He decides that his control over his mum is far grater than that of his sister and he uses that to free her up, sexually. Her new found freedom in the house in-turn seems to effact his sister and, through the mother's suggestibility, he can encourage his sister towards a more engaging physical relationship. It sounds like the three of them will get along well...

Exactly. Something along those lines, the slow spiral down could be fun. Its great to see so many people enjoying this idea. I originally pictured the brother trying to make his sister a bimbo, or maybe more sexual. The idea that mum steals the stick and uses it totally is what I pictured.
