It seems that some of the stupidist threads here end up being more popular than the serious, "Im in need of help" threads. Why is that?

I keep seeing over and over here at the G.B., that people here are willing to help in anyway that they can. But those threads seem to get buried quicker than cat shit in a litter box. What gives?

Would people here rather have fun all the time, than actually helping others out? I realise that some people actually do help others, but they seem to be few and far between. Even opinions are all they are ever asking for in some cases.

Then some seem to be nothing but ambush threads, or else they turn into them.

I'm very confused.

When people need serious help, it quickly gets taken off the Board and into private PMs and e-mails.

No worries, you'll get the hang of things.
We all bring our personalities, moods, baggage, concerns, etc. with us. Some days, I want/need silly threads. And some days, I'm nurturing.
I stay away from too much analysis, definition, and keep "To each his/her own" in mind.

Yep and besides, sometimes life sucks and posts that are stupid gets your mind off of real life.

This place is an escape for most of us, so babbling random threads seem to get a lot of attention.

Who knows - this thread could grow to 20 pages overnight the way things work around here.

(btw, Penny, check your PM's)

This is a very strong community and there are many people who have strong ties to others. There are many people here willing to help out to the best of their ability.

This board is also about fun. I don't think I've ever seen a cry for help go unanswered - often on the board but also, as mentioned, in PMs...

Like any community - there is room for good times. For serious discussion. For helping a friend or neighbor. Or just for kicking back and getting silly.

I understand the real life thing, and by the way, I'm not looking for this to be a long thread, just trying to understand the board a bit more. If it turns long, then I'll have no control over it.

As you know Raw, I'm not around here very much.

Many "help" threads only last for a few posts because they don't need to turn into endless threads. Question asked, question answered, thread ends, end of story.

Sillyness on the other hand, is often never ending, because sillyness doesn't require deep thought or emotional commitment.

I'm TRYING to understand this, so please bear with me.

So what does it say when there are only a few responses to the "serious" posts? What does it say when the threads about ambushing others turn into never ending threads?

My brains is frying I'm so confused.

There's an implied postulate in your post that is flawed, the connotation that if more people respond to stupid threads than smart threads that this is something of moral concern, or says "something" bad about the community.

All it says is that it's easier to post a few words of kneejerk reaction about trolls than to collect your thoughts to compose a monograph on Arafat, and just as we take shortcuts home from work each day so will we more frequently drop into an effortless thread and post. It's the cosmic law of energy conservation. Planets actually travel in easy straight lines, orbiting eliptically only when something of great gravity captures them.

So, though it's really more in our nature to travel in a straight line down a well-worn, easy to understand path, every once in a while we like to look up and consider the Sun. That doesn't say anything bad about our predeliction for immorality, only convenience.

I maintain my stance "if youre going to sin,sin big"..but I've been a little pmsey today...sorry folks...

If you've got something bad going on in your life I like thinking laughng really hard for a little while helps.

What they all said... and...

Sometimes someone already said what you were going to say. So why say it again?

The problem, if it is one, may be one with the forum. People tend to come to Lit for the fantasy aspect. As an example, people who hate the idea of rape read rape stories (although, have you ever noticed that rape fantasies tend to turn consentual?). Incest stories appeal to people with no attraction to their family members. I notice that the more serious threads tend to get at least a few good posts. Maybe that's enough-

DCL means "impaled postulant that is flayed" - remember the BDSM forum is quite new.
