How can you describe your emotions after a catastrophe like the tsunami ?

I don't think anyone can do a better job then Hannes 2 years old who survived the living inferno in Khao Lak, Thailand with his .. "Stupid giant wave"

What caused that "Stupid giant wave!"

To get an idea of how big an event this earthquake that set off the Tsunami was, it caused quite a bit of havoc with Spaceship Earth, also.

It is believed that the earthquake speeded up the Earth’s rotation a second faster every day, tilted the Earth’s axis 2½ centimetres, and moved around several islands, including Sumatra. Local cartographers are going to have to redraw the coastlines of much of the area affected.

The quake caused the Earth to wobble, and it may continue to do so for some time.

All this would be most alarming, if it were not for the fact that a range of seismic, tidal, and cosmic forces are doing the same thing to Earth every day. It is just that we now have one specific event we can point to that caused these particular global variations to our whole planet.

That sounds about as believable as the premise for "The Day After Tomorrow"

On a lighter note (not that there ought to be one) it's highly amusing hearing broadcasters try to pronounce Phucket without actually saying it.

Interesting to note... One of the mamas in our homebirth practice had her water break (here in Milwaukee) about 5 minutes after the quake. She still hasn't gone into labor and it's obviously been several days. Could be coincidence but it's interesting nonetheless...

But the animals escaped -

Amid all the horror I find one aspect very fascinating. Rescuers speak of finding very few dead animals among all the human victims.

Apparently most of the herd and other kinds of animals sought higher ground before the wave hit.

How soon before the event did the animals know, and could this ever be utilized as a human warning system?

CORRECTION

In case anyone noticed, in my previous post I originally substituted "Somalia" for "Sumatra" --- a carry-over from another thread.

I went back and corrected it, but just in case, note the error here.

BTW: Gauche ---

Did you read the linked article? I heard a news anchor reading that story and just had to check out his sources.

I immediately thought of Vladimir Nabokov, but then, I haven't seen TDAT yet. The person beside me muttered something about the rapture and I hurriedly left for the bathroom.
