What are your study methods? I know that, for history courses, a lot of the things that must be memorized are dates and names. For Sciences, it's formulae, animals, classifications, etc.

I'm studying Latin tonight. It requires constant reiteration.

So this is what's happening in my place tonight:

My French roommate offered to help me study for my Latin quiz tomorrow. That's cool. But after I'd accepted, she told me what her method was. She would test me. And for each right thing I answered, she would give a checkmark. For each wrong answer, she would put an X. Simple enough. However, here's where it gets interesting.

For each checkmark, I'd get a half a piece of dark, French chocolate. For each X, I would get a smack. Not the fun kind, but not the dangerous kind either. Just an unpleasant smack.

She also bet me that I'd get over 80% on the test tomorrow. If I don't, she buys me dinner. If I do, I buy her dinner.

I know I won't do badly on purpose, because the grade is more important to me than $30.

Like I said... what do you do to study? Anyone ever had a system like my roommate's?

never heard of a system like that.. but if it works, it works.

I have mainly math and science (the technical ones) courses. it's really just the more you do it, the better you know it. so I do a lot of review and practice problems.

Interesting study habits. ;)

I would just re-write and recite the information until I thought I knew it. Maybe I should switch . . .

Not much help here... I basically studied through osmosis... and remembered what was discussed in class... I took horrible notes... but I could always remember why I fell asleep in class...
Oh yeah this is when we talked abought the plight of the Scandanvian people in the epic myth Njals Saga. Just always worked for me. Good luck.

I just sit and read. and re-read.

Right now, I am studying while on lit.

In the past hour, I've read about 3 or 4 paragraphs.

You can see that I am having some trouble.

Keep the cake.....ask for long lingering tongue lashings......lol

:p

if I could have it, I'd ask for it.

I'm terrified of asking for, or mentioning such things with her because she's straight, and I don't want to make it weird...

My lemon-scented highlighter is my best friend. And it's not just for studying either. :D

I can't study with other people. Group study is good to figure things out, when two head are better than one. Brainstorming and different point of view. Otherwise, it's just a distraction for
me.

Memorization, I read and recite aloud. I take frequent breaks to derail my train of thought, and then review again. Over and over. Sometimes I use mnemonic techniques to help me remember, but most mnemonic techniques are are quite cumbersome. The easiest one to use is simply to associate freeform imagery--for example, when I was practising japanese, I remember "Ohio goat's eyemas" and imagined a goat walking in the sunrise.

Some things are more skill-based--like math. Then all you can do is practice for hours on end.

Notecards have been my best friend since day one. I used them so much in nursing school years ago, and now, I'm using them again.

If I took out stock, I'd be rich. I buy them by the dozen.

I almost NEVER studied in my life for school. So I can't answer your question.

I study with a friend and reiterate key points of what ever we are studying back and forth doesn't matter the subject...often this leads to a debate that lasts well over an hour and believe me I remember the topic that started it all. I love my study buddy.

You're a genious, aren't you? Dammit, you're a genious.

I actually don't study too much either, except around tests. But I have trouble just reading for the class.

Nah, I just payed attention in class. Everything that will be on the tests and finals and what not, the teacher covers to be sure you understand it. Simple enough, right?

I find a quiet room and put on some classical music. Read, make notes, make more notes, and drink tea!

It may be boring, but sometimes there is no other option but to get your head down and graft!

Most of my classes require not only not falling asleep in class, but reading several books, going to lab, and memorizing stuff.

Yup, that's how most of them are. I almost never fell asleep in class, no matter how tempting it was. I hardly read any of the books too, and if I did, I just skimmed it to just find the answer.

Oh ya, did I mention I only had homework 1 of the 4 years I was at highschool? That was my freshman year. Because I didn't know any better...lol

And still finished in the top 3% of my class out of 800+ students.
