Stroke Story

You did!

Jeez. Glad you're bouncing back and hope there are no lingering effects. :rose:

ETA: That is, except the good ones about what's important in life.

You know, I've been a smoker for 12 years, and for the past few of those years, I haven't given a whit about its effects on my health.

But I now have an excellent reason to stop, which I will. Even now, I've started cutting back.

I'm glad you're doing well, Lisa. Here's hoping you don't have another one. :rose:

ETA: I've had friends quit through hypnosis, the patch and gum, and through sheer willpower. But the best method I've heard is this: Buy a pack of cigarettes, take the first one out and throw it away, smoke the rest. The next day, buy a pack, toss out two of them, smoke the rest. The third day, toss out three . . . you get the picture. Eventually, you get down to smoking just one cigarette, and after that, no more.

I think I'll try that myself.

OMG!

Lisa!

So, so sorry darlin'.

Glad you're on the mend. You've been missed.

I would imagine an experience like that demands introspection and a reevaluation of ones life, in re: the present and the future.

Take care and come back soon. :rose:

ps: Kick that coffin nail habit pronto!

Really, really glad you're okay, Lisa. :rose:

Dum Dum lollipops! You might get a cavity or two :) but they help satisfy the psychological part of the addiction.

Good luck, Lisa, I know you can do it.

Oh my. Sorry to hear it hit you, but glad to hear it didn't beat you. Best wishes. :rose:

Best incentive for me to stop smoking was that when my sense of smell returned after about three weeks, I realized from the smell of other smokers' breath what mine had been like.

HA! Got your attention. :)
To those who might have wondered, why I have not been around as of late, stirring up the good or the bad feelings, I had a stroke Saturday past. It came out of the blue, I did not know I had any sort of risk, besides the stressful job and four kids, oh and yeah, the indefensible risk of smoking. Anyway, I am bouncing back like nobody’s business and taking stock of my life. I recommend to anyone, find out what and who (whom?) are important, there are many good reasons to work at staying around a bit longer. Love and peace to all, I am doing well (anybody got any good smoking cessation strategies before I actually do kill someone?)
Damn, Lisa! You take care of yourself now, you hear me? We can't have you in sick bay. After all, you're one of the few folks still reading my novel. :D

Rumple Foreskin

I've heard sex helps curb smoking addictions. Just keep having sex nonstop, though, or you'll really start to miss the after sex smoke.

Glad to hear you're bouncing back. :)

Glad to hear you're doing well. Sending healing thoughts your way.

My husband, a smoker for more than 20 years, quit with the new drug Chantix. I've known several people, hardcore smokers, for whom that has been successful. Best part is, I didn't ever feel the need to do him bodily harm while he was quitting! Well, once I did threaten to shove a cigarette in his ass and suck on his mouth to get things started, but those were in the early days. Another best part is that it was covered by insurance as a prescription.

Keep us updated. :rose:

*hugs* Hoping your recovery continues in good speed. :rose: I know many people who have had great success with Chantix, the new drug, but I'm not sure whether it is advisable for someone who has had a stroke. It is very new.
