Perhaps this should be in the General Board, but...I am stressed. Part of the reason I am stressed is lack of time to write. Also, my in-laws are here and although they're great people, various things are getting to me.

I think I need more sleep...sigh..

Thanks.

Mmmm... I can sympathize. My in-laws arrive bright and early tomorrow morning. I'm envisioning lots of counting to ten and laughing later with my husband.

Best of luck!

My suggestion, for what it's worth: wrap yourself in some mellow music and remind yourself that you can't do anything about the people and things you can't control.

It's not quite like that. :) I am glad they came, and we may go visit them later in the month but we haven't seen them since Christmas. And we have a 7yo son and almost-3yo daughter, so they want to see the kids, that's fine.

But I asked my husband if anyone would think I was anti-social if I took my computer upstairs for a couple of hours to write. Answer: probably but they wouldn't say anything. !!! And let me just say, the hub will go to my parents house and use my mom's computer for a couple of hours on his dinosaur stuff. Well, I did ask.

Then I was in the living room while he showed his mom some space station stuff, and she was impressed but then she goes on (as she sometimes does) about how dangerous it is and why would people risk that and what must their friends/families think and worry. So I kind of tossed out (as I have before) that if no one was willing to take the risk, nothing would ever change. And she agreed to a point but then it turned into a what's the point of it all and I just let it go.

Then there was another line of conversation about the world going to hell in a handbasket, how our niece (her granddaughter) spent all this time in college and stopped just shy of her MA in English and now has this not-well-paying job and etc. And so why did she waste that time and money?

This hits home for me b/c I have a BA in Russian Studies/International Relations and an MA in Russian Studies. I never used them, but don't regret it, and am currently a stay-at-home mom (and trying to be a writer :) ). I said nothing. There's no way to really discuss that -- and it's late -- let alone win that.

Grrr. I'm stressed and tired and my stomach is upset and I should just go to bed. pfffft.

Stressed? Me too. I was in the middle of writing a chapter and I was forced to go out to a French restaurant and then to go hear Judy Collins sing for an hour and a half. Life is sooo unfair. :D

I'm the king of my family and although my daughters don't believe that my son-in-laws do! At least someone listens to me! My ex-mother-in-law can't stand me but loves the kids so she tolerates me while she gloms on the kids.......and gives them nice stuff.............

Gosh, SR, I don't know why I'm complaining when you're suffering so. :D

Don't get me started on the whole discipline/behavior thing.

Ok, I've procrastinated enough...time to get ready for bed. My Kindle should be recharged now...more Scrabble and more books...

Snicker.

A guy I know has cancer, his furnace just gave it up, and the furnace installer found a major water leak under the house.

Your cares are worse. Poor baby.

After putting JBJ on ignore, I feel a bit less stressed.

See? There are cures for some simple problems. :)

There's always a problem for moms, balancing their family's needs against their own. Do you do the dishes, or write that paragraph? WRite a paragraph, or get some sleep?
I would excuse myself, take my laptop and disappear for a few hours. If they don't say anything, that's just fine. And if you retain your sanity, that's much better-- for everyone. If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

Well I can usually balance a bit normally by writing at night after the kids go to bed, or maybe a little while my youngest naps. But like I said, it annoys me that apparently they'll think I'm anti-social, yet my hub does not fear that (or doesn't care, maybe) when he goes to my parents. Then there was all the commentary last night...gah.

And a small break now as the little one naps and everyone else has headed up to a store...

Because Education is, of itself, often sufficiently empowering.
It teaches a person to think!

Good Luck

Had you, indeed, put this in the General Board, you would have moved your stress level up about three flights worth. Trust me, AH is much less stressful - as even a newbie like me has already discovered. ;)

I figured I was stressed, I was an author, I was hanging out -- seemed to meet the criteria. ;)

The General Board are pathetic sissies. Its like one guy with 12 alts and a dozen females who are old men.

Penn, Don't Ever Worry About Posting Here

SA Penn Lady, you're a giant! I'm going to quote Hemingway quoting Sylvia Beach yet again: "Talk about it or about anything! Don't you know all writers ever talk about is their troubles?" So talk about it. We love you.

Thanks. :) I ranted about it earlier. Been better today. Plus my Caps won, so that makes me happy.

SA Penn Lady, Have I Misstated an Essential Fact?

SA Penn Lady, I thought you were a Flyers fan. That you are a Caps fan is delightful. I am an Islanders fan, pathetic as that is (I love lost causes). I have an irrational loathing of the Flyers, although Bobby Clarke was one of the greatest defensive centermen I ever saw.

I like the Flyers and the Caps. ;) It's a bit complicated, but the Caps probably have the edge.

Perhaps, one day, the Islanders will recover. And if you're an Islanders' fan, I don't think a loathing of the Flyers is irrational. Probably makes sense from back in the day.
