Strep Throat??

I had strep throat numberous times when I was younger. Nasty stuff.

Normally I recovered within a week to a week and a half, but I did have one incident where I was sick with it for 3 weeks. Everytime it looked like I was over it I relapsed. The doctor said if I relapsed again they would have to remove my tonsils, but I got better and haven't had it since.

You may just have a really bad case of it, but I think going back to the doctor like you are is an excellent idea.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Have you ever had it? I have a couple of questions...and YES, I am going back to my doctor today...

First, I was put on 1500mg Amoxicillin/day on Monday...shouldn't it have started to work by now? At least to get rid of the sore throat? Also, I am still napping at least 2-3 hours every day and I can't seem to feel refreshed when I wake up.

If you are a doctor, nurse or strep survivor --- hellllllllllp!

OH OH.........no I'm not a doctor......but I've had strep throat on 3 occasions......yes, the anti-biotics should have kicked in by 36-48 hours.......so your symtoms remind me of what happened my freshman year at U.S.C.

MONONUCLEOSIS..............always tired, sleepy, rundown, a throat that was sore and swollen.......

Ummmmmmmm when you open your mouth.......any little "white patches" way way back? Also a clue is the color and shape of your Uvula (nooooooooooooo silly,,,,,,,,,,,not THERE, its the hangy down part in your throat)

Good luck..........

It could simply mean that you have a high resistance to the amoxicillin. I know I can't get anything cured with amoxicillin. I have to have something stronger.

Hope all goes well and ya get better soon!!! That strep throat is a bitch!!! :(

*hugs*

Brat

Amoxicillin sucks. That's all I have to say. Ask your doctor to get put on something stronger. Amoxicillin never did -anything- for me. I feel bad for you being on that crap. *shakes her head* My doctor learned long ago to put me on better stuff. Hope you start to feeling better, hon.

I have a special lozenge that will make it feel better Cat. ;)

Is that a lozenge or an all-day sucker?:p

Unfortunately it's more of a 20 min sucker, 6 times a day. Apply as needed......ummmm that would be when I need it, not you.

Cat, get your ass back to the doctor ASAP! It's nothing to fool around with. Aside from developing into rheumatic fever which can damage your heart, it can develop into a kidney inflammation called glomerulonephritis. This can result in decreased kidney function and internal bleeding.

If the Amoxicillin isn't working ask the doctor about Erythromycin.

Doesn't anyone use penicillin anymore?

That's what they gave me when I had strep throat when I was about 9 or something...

Oh, stop your whining...I AM going to the doctor at 3:30 today...

The Amoxicillin just doesn't seem to be working...my husband was given something called Metaclopramide about a month ago and that worked immediately.

I just need to be better in the next 2 days as I have something important going on this weekend...AND it can't affect my ability to drink! If you are on some Penicillin or other drugs, you can't drink...and that just won't do!

That reminds me I have this idea for Alcohol - Friendly Prescription drugs....think they would catch on?

Honey! With any antibiotic you have to take the full prescription or you might as well not take it at all. No you can't drink and be on antibiotics at the same time. 2 days is out of the question, possibly 10 days.

I am not whining, I do worry about you though!

BAH! No need to worry about me...I have plenty of worriers that are around me already! Besides, I am a big girl and can take care of myself.:p

Sure you're a big girl, I'll agree with that! Taking care of yourself? Mmmm, I'd better drop it, I'll get my head bitten off!

Yes, you would...and I have already gotten close a couple of times in the last couple of days...but I have a new "nicer" image to protect. :)

But thank you for your concern.

:D :D :D :D :D
