I didn't know her by name, but now seeing her, I know a few of her movies.

The easy solution is mention a film as well as her name.

But I don't think most readers will care much. If they don't know her, they'll either look her up or simply not care that much, unless her name is somehow integral to the scene.

Em, one of the problems with posing a poll/question like this in this forum is that this forum represents such an enormous demographic and age diversity that you're never going to get unanimity, or anything close to it. There are probably relatively few celebrities that everyone has a mental image of. Maybe somebody like Tom Hanks or Julia Roberts, but I'm not even sure of that.
