IC: Damn, the snowstorm came from nowhere. Bad planning on my part. I could not had seen it coming though. None of the weather broadcasts i listened in to had seen it coming. Then how could i? Sighing to myself i tried to keep my car on the road. I had to drive very slowly to not let the wind blow me of track.

Suddenly the grip of the wheels of my car just wasn't there. I felt that it was sliding towards the side of the road. In a panic i tried to compensate, but to no avail. With a sudden stop that made me bite my lip the car stood still. I must have sat there for some minutes, gripping the steering wheel hard.

I opened the car door and went out into the snowstorm. It was freezing and i wrapped my coat around me and pulled up the hood. After a long walk i saw a building beside the road. By now i was very cold and i forced my chilled feets to move towards the house. I stared at the front door and lifted my hand to ring the door bell. Hopefully i could stay there until it was safe to continue my journey.

IC: I settled back onto the sofa tucking my feet up under my hand-crocheted afghan and sipping on my hot tea as I stared at the fire. I was exhausted. The storm had come on rapidly, and I’d barely had time to bring in a couple of loads of firewood before it had hit in full-force.

I listened to the howling wind and was thankful for the warm fire and solid roof overhead. But I still felt it necessary to review my checklist one more time. I had food on hand that would last me for two weeks, enough fuel for the generator to pump up the water I’d need, and plenty of firewood, emergency candles and oil for the lamps. I should be fine. I’d made it through worse storms than this.

Picking up my book, I flipped through it’s well-worm pages looking for something fitting to a night like tonight. Not finding anything really appropriate, I flipped it open at random and began reading. It had been a long time since I’d known the touch of a woman, and soon found myself caught up in a tale of gentle romance and sex. It made me hot, as always, and I was just sliding my hand under the waistband of my flannel pajamas when my sensual daydream was interrupted by the sound of the door bell.

My hand yanked out of my waistband and I glanced over to the window to make sure the curtain was drawn tight. Sighing when I saw that is was. “Now who the hell could be out on a night like this?” I asked myself as I got up off the sofa, and slid the book down under the cushion. “Damn! I sure hope it isn’t Kevin.” Kevin was my neighbor, or what passed for one out here in the country. His home was about a half-a-mile down the road, and after five years of trying, he still couldn’t seem to get it through his head that I just wasn’t interested. Pulling my robe around me, and tying it in place, I went to send the annoying man back to his own home… alone!

I threw open the door, and was rather taken aback at the sight before me. While I had been expecting a tall, lanky man, instead there was this snow-covered woman. “Are you alright?” I asked her. The wind seemed to pick just that moment to pick up, and the door was almost ripped out of my hand. “You’d better step inside.” I told her. Before I have to rebuild the place during the storm.

I was relieved that someone lived in the house. It looked like i was gonna live to the next day afterall. My mind had wandered to the fate of being found dead the next morning, or week. I smiled my sweetest smile at the woman opening the door. I was stunned by her look. I had never seen hair like hers before. Not on a live woman at least. I lowered my eyes and met hers.

I quickly stepped inside the door and helped her close it behind her. Then my manners returned.

"Ehm... Yes, i am quite fine. Thank you for letting me in." I smiled sheepishly. "I am quite lucky i think. If you are not an axemurderer that is." I extend my hand to her. "I am Kim and i owe you for your kindness of not letting me become an icecube out there."

“Well Kim” I laughed, “My name’s Alicia and this is your lucky day. I do own an axe, but I just use it for chopping wood, and if you’d missed this place, you’ve had another half-mile hike to my nearest neighbor.” I smiled at her and said, “Hand me your coat, and take a seat over there,” I told her, pointing to the bench in the entryway, “and shed those wet shoes.” I smiled at her and added, “And while you’re at it. Maybe you can tell me what made you decided to go for a hike in a blizzard.”

I took the coat and turned to hang it up without really looking at her. When I turned around I noted how wet her shoes were and said, “If you don’t mind. I should probably check your feet. If they’re frostbitten, you really do not want to go warming them up too quickly.” Kneeling in front of her, I looked up into her eyes and really saw her for the first time. My breath caught in my throat at the sight of her bright green eyes, and an involuntary shudder swept through me at the through of running my fingers through her brilliant locks. I quickly composed myself, and hopped that she had missed the flash of fire in my eyes.
